First Comparison of PS5 vs XSX | S Load Speed in Next-Generation Games

Kotaku published the results of comparing the download speed of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition and NBA 2K21 on the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. Unlike older games, these versions are optimized for the next generation of consoles.

The SSD speed in PlayStation 5 is about twice the speed of the standard NVMe SSD in the Xbox Series X | S, but don't forget that the CPU and network connection also affect the loading of games if the game has multiplayer. However, the results in Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5:  4.01 seconds
  • Xbox Series X:  5.59 seconds
  • Xbox Series S:  6.95 seconds

These values refer to the loading speed of the current mission, i.e. when you press the Continue button from the game menu.

If you run DMC5: SE from the home screen of the system, then:

  • PlayStation 5 : 19.52 sec
  • Xbox Series X:  41.98 sec

NBA 2K21 has slightly different results. Here's how to continue playing faster on Xbox:

  • PlayStation 5:  6.92 seconds
  • Xbox Series X:  5.19 seconds

However, launching the game from the home screen is significantly faster on the PlayStation:

  • PlayStation 5:  14.43 sec
  • Xbox Series X:  22.81 seconds

As you can see from the results, SONY was not in vain to brag about a drive of its own design, and games with its support show excellent results.
