Ghostrunner - bugs, low FPS, black screen, fatal error and more

As with every PC release, Ghostrunner also comes with a few mind-boggling bugs and glitches that you might need some help with. We have compiled a list of the most common problems you may encounter while playing. We hope you find a solution to your error in it too.

In-game crashes in Ghostrunner

The first thing you'll want to do is run the game as administrator. This removes a number of security concerns. You should also whitelist Ghostrunner on your firewall and antivirus and check if the crashes have stopped. If not, go ahead and download the latest DirectX runtime package and also check if you are using the Microsoft VC ++ Redistributables correctly.

The last thing you can do to stop the game from crashing is to disable full screen optimization. To do this, go to the game files and right click on the executable file. select Properties. In the properties window go to the Compatibility tab and here enable the "Disable full-screen optimization" option. Click OK to apply the settings and try starting the game again.

Ghostrunner crashes on cutscenes - intro

As with any glitch, try running the game as administrator and whitelisting your security defenders for this too. If they don't work, check your GPU settings and disable hardware accelerator if enabled. Last but not least, you can add an exception for Ghostrunner to FFDSHOW if you are using it. According to the GOG Support Center, you can make an exception from your codec pack's ffdshow settings by doing the following:

  • Go to Start -> Programs -> Unified Community Codec Pack -> Filters -> FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration.
  • Go to DirectShow control.
  • Select "Don't use ffdshow in:"
  • Click the Edit button and then Add to select Ghostrunner.

Black of black screen in the Ghostrunner

This is the issue most definitely related to security issues or GPU drivers. First, whitelist the game from your security programs as we mentioned earlier. Then open your graphics card software and check if there are any pending updates. If any, download, install and try running the game again. Another thing you can try is to switch the game display to windowed and see if it works correctly. If so, switch to borderless, which will be the closest thing to fullscreen without any problems.

DirectX / d3dx9_43.dll file not found

To get rid of this problem, you will need to download the latest DirectX runtime package and install it on your system. Your existing package may be corrupted and cannot start the game correctly.

Ghostrunner is not saved

The reason the game is not being saved is most likely because there is not enough space on your hard drive to do so. If you are 100% sure that this is not the case, you can try checking your game files, which will take care of any corrupted leftovers that might affect the save of the game.

File not found error

Run the game again as administrator and whitelist Ghostrunner from your firewall and antivirus software. Load the game and see if the error appears again. If so, you can run a file scan to replace any corrupted files that may exist in your game folder.

"Fatal error" in Ghostrunner

This is a strange issue in Ghostrunner that players have been able to solve in several ways. Some say that changing the audio format to 192000Hz fixes this problem. Several others are installing Microsoft Visual C ++ 2013, which seems to be the most successful fix right now. Be that as it may, there is currently no definitive solution to this problem, but the developers will soon solve some of the most difficult problems in the patch.

UE4-Ghostrunner / LowLevelFataError

Another problem with your GPU. This is an issue that occurs when the Unreal Engine crashes, causing the game to stop working. The first thing you need to do is make sure there are no pending updates for your graphics card. If they are, install them and check if that fixes the problem. If not, go to the graphics settings inside the game and disable some of the most demanding options. For example, you can lower 4K resolution, lock FPS, and disable V-Sync to help the UE run smoother.

Low FPS / performance

This is the problem most likely related to your hardware. The first thing you'll want to do is play around with the graphics settings in Ghostrunner and see if they improve your experience. If you are 100% sure that your hardware far exceeds the minimum requirements, then check to see if your CPU and RAM reach 90% or higher. If so, close all unnecessary programs and browser windows and start the game again.

Keyboard or mouse not working

First, run the game as an administrator as it is requested for almost all patches. If it's your mouse that isn't working, then go to Mouse → Pointer Options and turn off Pointer Precision Enhancement. If your keyboard isn't working, then make sure you remove any additional peripherals that might trick Ghostrunner into recognizing them as a keyboard.

This is all we have been able to collect so far about bugs and crashes in Ghostrunner. If you experience additional problems launching and playing the game, you may find it helpful to contact your platform's support team for more personalized assistance.
