How to set up your PlayStation 5

PlayStation lets you transfer your friends, wallet funds, games, music, videos and other content from your old PS4 to your new PS5.

You can also check out the other recommended settings to maximize your PS5 gaming experience.

Connecting your account

When you launch your PS5 for the first time, you will need to connect your PS5 to the internet and update it to the latest version.

When you're done updating your console, you will be taken to the PlayStation account login screen. There are two ways to log into your account:

  • Log in manually using your email address and password;
  • Or open the PlayStation app on your mobile phone and go to the settings menu. Find the option "sign in to PS5" and scan the QR code displayed on the screen.

Now that you've signed in to your PS account, let's take a look at the other recommended settings.

Recommended settings

On the PlayStation 5, you have a wide variety of settings to tinker with. But some of these settings need to be learned first before you start playing.

Sound settings

Here you can adjust the volume of the microphone input, change the audio output, enable or disable 3D audio, and select your preferred type of 3D audio profile.

Power settings

When your PS5 is at rest, you can choose whether you want to run it in full power or low power mode.

Using full power mode allows it to automatically update it to the latest version, and you can turn on your console using the PlayStation App or Remote Play, but it uses more power.

On the other hand, low power mode does not allow any of the above functions.

You can also select custom settings and enable or disable them whenever you want by going to the settings menu.

Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback

Open the settings menu, go to the accessories section and select the controllers item.

From here, you can choose how strong or weak you want the vibration intensity. The default is Strong.
