A guide to securely transferring data from your current console to your next generation PlayStation console.

Preparing for data migration

  1. You must log on to the PS4 console using the same account you logged on to the PS5 console.
  2. Update your console software to version 8.00 (use the automatic system update feature in your console settings).
  3. Open the "Prizes" section, hold down the Options button and select "Sync with PlayStation Network."

To enable Automatic Software Updates, open your PS4's Settings and navigate to System > Automatic Downloads > System Software Update Files .

  • Use any USB drive with FAT32 file system to copy data from PS4 and transfer it to PS5 console;
  • If you have a valid PlayStation Plus subscription on your PSN account, you can upload your data to the cloud, then download it to your PlayStation 5 device.

  1. If you have PlayStation 4 games on physical media, simply insert the disc into your PlayStation 5 console.
