Watch Dogs: Legion - Crashes, Black Screen, Low FPS, No Sound and Other Problems

Watch Dogs: Legion is out right now on PC and consoles and is sadly filled with critical bugs, crashes, and performance issues. Ubisoft has already released a day one patch to address some of the more annoying issues. However, this is still not enough. Today the company will release another patch with a lot of fixes. In the meantime, we have compiled a list of the problems you may encounter and what you can do to fix them.

Watch Dogs: Legion crashes on startup

While random crashes are the result of deployment issues on the part of Ubisoft, there may be issues with your security that are causing Watch Dogs: Legion to crash. The first thing you can try is to run the game as administrator and whitelist it from your antivirus and firewall software. If the crashes persist, try running the game in windowed mode.

Departure in the game

This is a classic problem that most of the time has to do with GPU performance. It may be that your graphics card is unable to handle the pressure before or after the cutscene or load a new area. You can try toggling the most demanding graphics options such as resolution and maximum FPS and check if the crashes have stopped.

Also, try closing all unnecessary programs and browser windows to make sure the problem is not 100% CPU and RAM usage.

Make sure you have the correct version of DirectX. Watch Dogs Legion works with DirectX11 and 12, with the latter being required for ray tracing to work.

It's worth mentioning here that Ubisoft is aware of various crash reports and is already working on fixes. Another patch is expected next week, so stay tuned. If you are playing the game on consoles, make sure you have the latest version of the game installed. This will fix your crashing problems.

Poor performance - FPS

Another issue that can be related to high CPU and RAM usage, so this is the first thing you need to look out for when closing programs and browser windows. Then we'll move on to your GPU. You might want to check your GPU drivers and make sure they are up to date. If that's not the problem, try disabling some of the more demanding graphics features in the game, such as v-sync and Ray Tracing, or try using a windowed screen. As a last resort, check your GPU settings and set it to the maximum performance from the respective manufacturer.

Black screen on startup

Any of the above practices can help you with black screens as they are all universal fixes. This means that you can follow these steps:

  • Run the game as administrator.
  • Add your antivirus and firewall to the Watch Dogs: Legion whitelist.
  • Update your GPU drivers.
  • Lower graphics settings in the game.
  • Run in frameless or windowed mode.

No sound in Watch Dogs: Legion

If you are not getting audio feedback in the game, the first thing to check is if you have the wrong audio device activated. This may sound silly, but it is a common culprit. If you are 100% sure that this is not the case, check if you have Windows Sonic headphones turned on and unplug them. Check if the game is working properly. If not, then go to the playback settings and set the default format to 16 bit. If that doesn't work, check to see if you need to update your sound card drivers.

Keyboard mouse not working

The only thing you can try to prevent Watch Dogs Legion from denying access to your mouse and keyboard is to make sure there are no other devices connected to your PC that the game might mistake for peripherals. If that doesn't work, try disabling Enhanced Mouse Movement in Mouse Settings. If you have other issues on this front, you should wait for the next patch or contact Ubisoft support.

Watch Dogs: Legion is not saved

The lack of auto-save is currently on the list of known issues for developers, and there is no obvious solution at this time. Until the next patch comes out and you can count on automatic saving, be sure to save it manually after a while so you are always up to date.

These are all the fixes we have for Watch Dogs: Legion bugs and glitches right now. If you have more specific issues, you should contact the Ubisoft Support Center or wait for the next patch to be released to fix other issues.
