XIII Remake completely destroys the comic style of the original game

Fans of the original XIII seem to be ambivalent about the visuals of the remake of this iconic classic shooter.

Remakes and remasters are always a challenge for developers. On the one hand, those with fond memories of the original often won't be able to resist buying them, which is why these releases are so common. As it turns out, publishers and developers love money a lot.

On the other hand, these projects require huge responsibility for the same reason. The developers play with the legacy of classic games and franchises, which is very difficult to balance. Tweak too much of the original and fans will be furious, while simply porting the game with a little texture improvement (and charging full cost per game) is also unacceptable.

What's really important about the remake is keeping the game's personality, its spirit.

On Twitter, Thomas Ripoll Kobayashi, a 3D artist based in the games industry in Tokyo, lamented that the remaster had lost the visual style of the comic and became more like Fortnite:

And he cited The Wolf Among Us as an example, which carries a comic style and at the same time looks modern and cool.
