Combine (multiple) videos - this is how it works

You can merge multiple videos into one video with the right free tools. Split films can also be copied back together into one file. We'll show you how it works here at OkayGotcha.

Merge videos - with "Windows Movie Maker"

"Windows Movie Maker" is a well-known standard program for video editing. You can use it to join videos:

  1. Install Windows Movie Maker if you haven't already.
  2. Click the Add Videos and Photos button .
  3. If you have the video files in a folder, you can mark and select multiple videos at the same time by holding down the left [ Ctrl ] key while clicking them with the mouse.
  4. Windows Movie Maker automatically joins the clips together.
  5. You can change the order of the videos by dragging the videos to the correct position with the mouse.
  6. To edit individual clips, right click on them and select the " Edit " menu at the top .
  7. When you are done, click the “ Save movie ” button in the “ Home ” menu and select a storage location for your video.
  8. If you click on the small black arrow under the “ Save movie ” button , you can choose from different resolutions for your video file.
  9. The process takes a while depending on the length of the video.

Merge videos - online with ""

Videos can also be merged online. However, you have to upload the videos to the Internet. That can take a long time depending on the length of the video. It also takes time to download the entire video again. The online program also adds a watermark to the video. We recommend this method only for small video files and only if there is no sensitive information in the videos (family names, private data, etc.).

  1. Opens the website
  2. Click on the " Upload files " button .
  3. Hold down the [ Ctrl ] key and click one after the other with the mouse on all the video files that you want to upload and combine. Confirmed with the button " Open ".
  4. After the upload you will see a video editor in the browser.
  5. There you can change the order of the video snippets by dragging the thumbnails below with the mouse to the correct position.
  6. On the right you set the image format and determine whether videos that have a different aspect ratio should be cropped.
  7. You can also check the " Soft transition " box if you want a fade between the videos.
  8. If you have everything set finished, click the bottom right on the button " joining ".
  9. The video is then stitched together and created. This could take a while.
  10. You will then be offered the download of the finished video. To do this, click on the " Download " button .
