 For a long time, night mode could only be reached via detours. Now you can activate the dark mode in Instagram in a few steps. This works perfectly in Android smartphones as well as in iPhones and in the iPad. OkayGotcha shows you how to do it.


You don't have to root  (for Android) or jailbreak  (for an iPhone) your phone to activate dark mode on Instagram. However, at least iOS 13 is required to easily switch on the night mode on iPhones.


Activate Instagram dark mode on the iPhone / iPad

Darkmode has no special setting option in the Instagram app of Apple devices - it doesn't need any! Instead, the app reacts to the system setting. If you activate dark mode in an iPhone or iPad from iOS version 13, this also automatically affects the Instagram display.


This is how you can activate the dark display in the iPhone:

  1. Opens the settings app on the iPhone or iPad.
  2. Searches for the setting " Display & Brightness " and opens it.
  3. Under " Appearance " select the option " Dark ". Darkmode is then activated in the entire iPhone and all apps.
  4. Now open Instagram: The entire display is now dark.

How you can toggle the dark design in Android depends on the type of phone used. There are several ways to do this . This is how it works in standard Android:

  1. Opens the Settings app .
  2. Select the " Display " settings here.
  3. In the settings for the device theme you select the dark mode.

Activate Instagram night mode in Android

In Instagram there is a special setting with which you can switch dark mode on and off or automate it so that it is based on the system setting.

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap your profile picture in the lower right corner .
  2. Then tap on the three lines (≡) in the top right to open the menu.
  3. Now tap at the bottom on " Settings ".
  4. There you can see the menu item " Design " below , which lets you select the Instagram dark mode.
