Battle: high-budget Assassin's Creed Valhalla versus daring Valheim

Fresh survival in a Scandinavian setting Valheim is rapidly gaining popularity. Naturally, she is compared withAssassin's Creed Valhalla , another popular Viking project. In addition to mythology, they have little in common, but this will not prevent us from pushing the games together in a real, albeit subjective, battle. Boxing!

Graphic arts

Ubisoft knows how to make beautiful games, you can't refuse it. But the graphics of Valheim can hardly be called technologically advanced, although survival skillfully hides flaws. Nice lighting, breeze effect, lots of details in the environment - all this makes the picture extremely enjoyable. If Valhalla tries to look realistic and not dazzle, then her competitor with its cartoon style and riot of colors remindsThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . In its best moments, when a character, after a hard battle, goes to the ocean, bathed in the rays of the setting sun, Valheim is able to enchant. However, it is naive to argue that the high-budget Assassin's Creed still looks much richer.

Gameplay

Valheim, like any survival, is built on grinding and crafting. The Viking will have to chop down trees, look for stones, get meat and leather, pick berries and mushrooms - all in order to rebuild a better house, ensure a well-fed life and create truly deadly equipment. Grinding at Valheim is really fun because the resources you need are constantly changing, and new ones always require a fresh approach. And instead of chasing boars in order to collect scraps of skin, you can tame a couple and create a family of boars, which will provide the offspring, and therefore the necessary resources. And if our Viking survives not alone, but in a cooperative , then any business will become many times more interesting.

Of course, not every gamer will appreciate this approach. However, like the gameplay of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The brainchild of Ubisoft is also built on the same type of mechanics, and most of the time here you need to cut enemies and do the same type of tasks over and over again. Just running through the plot is not an easy task, because the game now and then invites you to pump up, plunging into dull side effects. Perhaps someday developers will realize that side quests are not necessarily kill-fetch-serve, but obviously not today.

Plot

But here there will be no struggle. The plot of Assassin's Creed Valhalla may not be called a benchmark, but it justifies its existence. It is fun to take revenge on offenders, colonize Britain and deal with the affairs of the Jarls, at least someone will be confused by the fragmentary history. But in Valheim there is practically no plot at all, there is only a plot. One locked his enemies in the tenth Viking world of Valheim and, in order to end the threat forever, sent our hero to deal with them. That, in fact, is all. Runestones are scattered across the vast world, which will tell a little more about the gods and lore, but you should not expect more.

Locations

In our top projects with the best game worlds of 2020, there is a place for as many as three Ubisoft works. Level design has always been her strong point. Britain, captured by the Vikings, turned out to be really magnificent. Moreover, Valhalla is not only breathtaking landscapes (to climb much higher for the sake of a "leap of faith" is still cool), but also famous sights. Here you can find the famous York Minster, Roman ruins, and Skeldergate Bridge.

However, Valheim also does not give in to a competitor. The world of the game is very diverse and divided into many biomes : here you will find pleasant green meadows, a gloomy black forest, and snow-covered mountains, and a huge majestic ocean. The world is procedurally generated when the server is created, so each new attempt is unique. At the same time, the developers promise to increase the variety further. But still, despite all the advantages of Valheim, it has yet to be put on a par with Valhalla.

Sounds and Music

Sound design is great in both games. The music of Valhalla was in charge of Jesper Kyd himself, a great master of creating atmosphere. However, the compositions in the brainchild of Ubisoft are often imperceptible and unobtrusive. But in Valheim, the whole soundtrack turned out to be really bright, from driving combat motives to meditative overflows of a cello.

Combat system

The action in Valheim is pretty good. There is a rich set of weapons , from spears and bows to your own fists, and rolls, and parries ... But in the latest Assassin's Creed, fights are, of course, more dynamic and varied. After all, both combinations and full-fledged stealth are available here, which in the "survival game" came out quite primitive after all.

Enemies

However, it is important not only how, but also whom to beat. Most rivals in Assassin's Creed are ordinary people. And even if they try to surprise with different techniques and dressed in different ways, you get used to everyone quickly, and the difference is not so great. But Valheim is inhabited by skeletons, draugs, trolls, and dozens of other fantastic creatures. We are still silent about the bosses, and their set is no less impressive: from a healthy deer emitting lightning from its antlers, to a dragon breathing frost. In general, the enemies in Valheim are much more varied and interesting than in Valhalla.

Physics

The Assassin's Creed series has never had powerful physics. Here it is in Valhalla, but it can only be called conditional. On this field, Valheim is many times ahead of its competitor, because she tries to be truly realistic. Felled trees fall to the ground and at the same time knock down smaller trees, fires go out in the rain, smoke instantly fills the premises, and buildings do not stand without a sensible foundation. In this aspect, Valheim dominates the Ubisoft product.

Price

The brainchild of Iron Gate AB does not pretend to be AAA, and the price for access to the beta is now very modest - $20 USD. Despite early access, all the mechanics in the game work as expected, and it is difficult, if not impossible, to find bugs. Valheim gives the impression of a near-finished project that requires only minor balance polishing. The price, according to the developers, may soon rise, but in any case it will not reach the horse price tags of Assassin's Creed: the basic version of Valhalla in EGS will cost you $45 USD.

Perspectives

There is already enough content in both games, but neither Ubisoft nor Iron Gate AB are planning to relax. Assassin's Creed Valhalla has already managed to "update", adding paid boosters to the game, but real new content awaits it, both paid and free. Already in 2021, two additions will be released that will send the hero to Ireland and France, and the developers promise to add interesting free modes.

Valheim is waiting for no less significant updates. The Swedes say that only fifty percent of the planned content is currently in the game. For example, so far you can beat only five bosses, but in the near future their number will increase. There should be more types of weapons, locations, enemies and everything else.
