Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, you always need gold as a player in Guild Wars 2 . So that you don't run out of currency, we have selected the best methods to farm gold in 2023.
Farming gold in Guild Wars 2 : Gold is the central currency in Guild Wars 2. You need it for the legendary weapons, for the associated professions, for new equipment or content from the gem shop. With our following tips you can easily increase your wealth.
For each method we write what you need in terms of extensions or episodes of the Living World:
- If the basic game is sufficient, there is a (core) behind the method
- In the Heart of Thorns expansion, there is a (HoT) behind the method
- The Path of Fire extension has a (PoF) behind the method
- For episodes of the Living World we use an abbreviation for season and episode, for example Living World Season 3 Episode 5 (LW3E5)
- It is important that the Living World season 3 automatically requires HoT and the Living World seasons 4 and 5 always requires PoF
Daily tasks and login rewards (core)
Collecting gold starts with the fact that you log into the game. Every day you passively activate a login reward. But there is also a lot of money in the other daily tasks.
Login Rewards : There are a total of 28 login rewards that you can automatically unlock. Then the reward path repeats itself. At the end there is a chest of loyalty from which you can win 20 laurels, among other things.
These laurels are most effectively exchanged for craft bags. At the moment you get most of the currency for a lightweight craft bag with just under 56 silver. You can track the current value of the items on GW2Efficiency .
So for the last chest you already get 11 gold. But there are also many rewards waiting for you beforehand. Among other things, you will receive another 35 laurels spread over the other days. There are also 20 mystical coins, each of which is worth 1.2 gold. In one run of the 28 days you make about 60 gold through the rewards.
Income: You passively earn around 2.2 gold per day.
Daily successes : You can actively earn a little gold per day through daily successes. To do this, you only have to complete three of the alternating twelve tasks, which are divided into four PvE, four PvP and four WvW successes.
However, the PvE achievements are usually easy. So you usually only have to look at a panorama / vista in a certain region of the game and collect materials in another region. The third task then usually wants you to conclude events in another region.
Yield: Completing three daily achievements will give you 2 gold.
Daily hunter of sunken treasure : In 2018 ArenaNet added a new category for underwater combat. For the hunter of sunken treasures you only have to defeat 10 krait a day. These can be found, for example, in the Kessex Hills, in the northeast of the Caledon Forest or in the water in the Maelstrom summit.
For defeating the krait you will receive a key for a chest. There are a total of ten different chests, although this is only relevant for the associated success. In theory, you can open the same chest every day. Opening it gives you two to four swim-speed infusions.
Simple chests can be found in the gendarran fields or the Kessex hills.
Yield: You can sell the swim speed infusions for just under 22 silver each.
Daily craft : If you already have a profession at level 500, you can also use the daily craft to earn gold. There you can make the Ascended Crafting Materials once every day.
These include Deldrimor steel bars, ghost wood planks, damask bales, and Elonian leather patches. Not all of these items bring an immediate profit if you resell them afterwards, as you pay a 15% trading post fee. How much profit you actually make depends on the situation.
Of course you need materials for the production that you have to collect beforehand. However, since the above items can only be manufactured once a day, this counts as a separate method for us.
Yield: Currently (February 2021) the method is no longer as lucrative as it used to be. So calculate beforehand which materials are still worth crafting.
Fractals (core)
The fractals are part of the final content of Guild Wars 2 at the highest levels and give you the opportunity to earn a lot of gold per day. There are two lucrative options: Daily Achievements and completing the Challenge Modes.
Daily Achievements: You will receive additional rewards for completing certain daily changing fractals. This is how you get fractal ciphers and qualinfusions. The ciphers are chests that you can open yourself or sell for 22 silver each. This is where opinions differ, which is more effective.
For all daily successes you get between 24 and 32 of these ciphers, i.e. up to 7 gold when sold. You will also receive a lot of other rewards, the chance to win mystical coins and of course the loot from the fractals themselves.
Income: In total, you can earn at least 30 gold per day with the method. The duration of the method depends heavily on the players, and accordingly the "income per hour".
Completing Challenge Modes : Level 99 and 100 fractals will give you additional rewards for completing them in Challenge Mode. There are 1-3 mystical coins and additional fractal relics that can be converted into gold.
Yield: The battles in Challenge Mode are fairly demanding. The duration and profit of the method depend heavily on the other players. One usually speaks of around 15-25 gold per hour.
Silver Desert - RIBA (Core)
The silver desert came into play in 2014 and has been the most gold-farming place ever since. There are several reasons for this:
- The map has a very high density of events
- The meta-event gives good final rewards
- There are chests buried in between as an additional reward
- The card contains a magical sense buff
- The events are not time-bound
In the meantime, the “RIBA” method in particular has established itself.
What is RIBA? RIBA stands for Red, Indigo, Blue and Amber, the four fortresses on the map. Instead of splitting up among the fortresses in order to get to the end of the meta-event as quickly as possible, you work here as a zerg.
So you conquer, defend and repair all fortresses together again and again. This is how you experience all events and receive a corresponding number of rewards. The chests are opened at the same time.
As soon as you have completed the phase with the fortresses, the meta-event will end. Then you kill all champions on the map together and open the chest hidden below the desert.
If you join a task force as a beginner and run with it, you can't really go wrong.
Champion Bags: In order to increase the profit in the Silver Desert, you should open the received Champion Bags with a character of level 49-53. The items contained therein are also adapted to the level.
The materials that you get when you recycle are most valuable in this level area because they are often used. However, the characters of the players rarely stay in the range of level 49-53. Level 80 materials, on the other hand, are in abundance.
Yield: Depending on the passage and luck you can earn up to 20 gold and some bandit crests per hour.
Tequatl (Core)
How do I get gold through tequatl? The world boss Tequatl appears several times a day and is usually defeated in around 10 minutes. As a reward, there are several boxes containing karma and trophies worth 2 gold.
You also have the chance of specific skins and even an Ascended Greatsword, which can ultimately save you the manufacturing costs of this.
Income: At least 2 gold and karma, which in turn can be converted into gold.
Exchange currencies (core)
What currencies can I use to earn gold? In Guild Wars 2, currencies accumulate over time. Many of them can be exchanged for gold, including:
- Dungeon Tokens - Up to 30 silver per token
- Ghost Shards - Up to 3 gold per shard
- Karma - Up to 23 silver per 1,000 karma
- Badge of Honor - Up to 77 coppers per badge
- Guild Commendation - Up to 55 Silver per Commendation
- Black Lion Gun Tickets - Up to 58 gold per ticket
The yields vary a lot, so we would like to recommend GW2Efficiency to you again . There you can always see the currently best methods and how much you can earn from them.
Istan Farm (PoF and LW4E1)
The Istan farm is about successfully completing the events in the Istan domain. Usually you do the Great Hall of the Crescent Moon first, then go to Akilli and then to Palawadan, the biggest event. This event takes place at every even hour XX:45. The next large hall is then possible again.
In any case, join the commander on the map to stay with the other players.
Volatile magic: You get volatile magic through the events, the opponents, and also on the map itself. You can then exchange these at the dealer at the start of the card. Most of all there is the chest with the trophies, around 1 gold per box. You can find an overview of the value of the chests here.
Champion bags: In order to earn a lot of gold with the Istan Farm, you should open the champion bags correctly. The following points must be observed:
- Champion bags should be opened with a level 49-53 character
- The items it contains are adapted to the level
- The materials you get from recycling are most valuable in this level area
- You should identify rare "unidentified equipment"
- An exotic item worth more than 3 potential ectos should be sold directly
- Recycle rare, masterful and noble equipment
Yield: Depending on the passage and luck, you can earn up to 15 gold in one hour.
Dragon fall (PoF and LW4E6)
There is a map-wide meta-event on the Dragon Fall map, which can currently also earn a lot of gold.
We'll tell you how you can earn gold there.
This is how the event works : First you have to take part in events spread across the map in order to conquer the various outposts. This is important so that you can get keys for the later chests.
As soon as the card-wide event starts, you should also complete as many of the distributed events as possible. This not only gives you the rewards for completing it, but also other keys.
Then Kralkatorrik becomes vulnerable. To do this, you have to defeat 12 of its weak points. Here, too, you try to complete as many events as possible.
How do I earn gold with it? At the end of the event, reward chests await you, which you can open with the keys.
Then 9 champions appear on the map, which are defeated in a large group in a counter-clockwise direction. Each of these champions gives a champion bag, a key and lets three more chests appear.
So in the end you opened 33 of the chests and at least 9 champion bags in your inventory. There is also fleeting magic, which you can exchange for trophy bags, as in Istan. The champion bags should also be opened as with the Istan Guide.
Yield: Up to 25 gold per hour. In real terms, however, there are around 15 gold. The good thing is that the event is not tied to a timer, unlike Istan or events from HoT.
Farming leather (HoT and LW3E4)
To make the Living World Season 3 Doric Lake map more attractive, ArenaNet has introduced a leather farm in the northeast of the map. However, this is designed to go with a group.
What do you get leather for? On the way to the top of the tower you will meet all kinds of centaurs. These, and especially the champions, already reward you with leather. There are also chests all around the edges that also contain leather. You usually go up to the watchtower and then back down to make the most profit.
Yield: With a good group, this method can earn around 15 gold per hour.
Farming flaxseed (HoT and LW3E5)
With the expansion Heart of Thorns, the craft material “flaxseed” was introduced. This is needed for some things in the handicraft and therefore still brings good profits years later. To effectively farm flaxseed, there are three special places where much of the seed grows in one fell swoop.
Where can I find the easiest flaxseed? The most famous place is in the grass-green threshold at the waymark Jaka Itzel. Simply slide down from the waypoint to find many of the seeds near the tree roots. You'll usually find between 10 and 15 piles of flaxseed there.
Where can I find more flaxseed? You can find more large collections of flaxseed in the Tangled Depths and on the Draconis Mons map. The latter came into play with the fifth episode "Hotspot" of Living World Season 3.
There you port to the waymark Heidenhalt and just let yourself fall down until you slide into a cave a little below the Wilder Hill. You know this cave from the druid's back "Wanderer's Stone Circle".
In the Tangled Depth you have to climb the big tree. The easiest way to do this is from the start mark and then over the updrafts.
Yield: In the end, you should have at least 35 flax seeds in your inventory, which corresponds to almost 70 silver. You also have the chance of flax flowers, which are worth another 8 silver. The method can be repeated with any character.
Drizzle Forest Coast (LW5E4)
How do you earn gold in the coast? You primarily focus on completing events. It's best to start with a completely fresh card. You earn the gold through drops, event rewards, but above all through the map's reward track and the chests that you can open at the end.
With this method, around 15 gold per hour is possible.
Leviathan Farming (EoD)
How do you earn gold with this? With this method you want to get a piece of ancient amber. You actually get these as a rare reward for fishing. However, you can also get them by killing Leviathans in events.
There are two of them in the game. One event is in Seitung Province and one is in New Kaineng. The events have a respawn time of around 15 minutes, but by hopping between the two maps and different instances of the map, you can kill significantly more per hour. The best way to do this is to join a group using the LFG tool that constantly tries to do just that.
Using this method you can find around 10-12 pieces of ancient ambergris per hour. These are currently worth 1.9 gold, which corresponds to around 19 to 21 gold per hour.
Raids (HoT and PoF)
How do you earn gold through the raids? To earn gold through the raids, you need a well-rehearsed group or good luck in the LFG tool. This is only really worth it if you defeat the bosses in a few attempts and don't spend hours trying them out.
So this method is aimed at very experienced and not necessarily casual players. Here you can earn up to 46 gold per week (bosses only give rewards once a week). The speed depends on the group.
A higher profit is also possible with the raids, since there is also the "rush" method. You do the bosses, for example, to 9t and take a player with you who pays for the kills. There are several hundred golds for each boss, which are then divided by 9 players.
