How old is my iPhone? - this is how you find out

How old is my iPhone? This is what you might ask yourself if you're looking to buy a new model or have bought a used iPhone. You can find out quickly with the serial number of your iPhone. We'll show you how to do it here at OkayGotcha.

How old is my iPhone? - Check the Apple warranty status!

Method 1: on the iPhone

  1. Open the iOS settings on your iPhone  under " General "> " Info ".
  2. Here you can see your serial number and under it the menu item "( Limited) Apple Warranty ".
  3. Tap it to see the expiration date of your Apple warranty. The purchase date is then one year before the expiry date of the guarantee.
  4. If it just says “ Cover Expired ” instead , your warranty has expired and you will not receive any information about how old your iPhone is. Then check the invoice for your device or contact Apple support.

The week and year of manufacture can be found on the Dutch website chipmunk. Simply enter your serial number there and both will be displayed.

Method 2: Via the Apple website

If your warranty has already expired, this method will not work. Then just skip this part:

  1. Open the website  checkcoverage.apple.com  and enter the  serial number of your iPhone .
  2. Below you enter the displayed code and confirm with the button " Next ".
  3. The Apple website will now show you the exact model name and the expiry date of your warranty below .
  4. If you have not purchased any extended warranty, you have your iPhone a year before the warranty expiration date purchased .
  5. If your warranty has already expired, you will not be shown a date and you will not receive any information about when you bought your device. However, you can then roughly estimate the purchase date based on the release date of the respective iPhone.

How old is my iPhone? - Rough classification

If your iPhone's warranty period has expired and you can no longer find out how old your iPhone is, you may be able to roughly classify it using the iPhone publications . Check out when Apple released your iPhone model. Then you already know when you can have bought your iPhone at the earliest. Using the release dates of the following models, you may then be able to narrow down when you bought your iPhone at the latest. The presumed purchase date is somewhere between these two dates.
