How to build a raft and ship in Valheim

Valheim is an open-world game in which players have to not only survive in a large location, but also explore a huge territory full of adventure. The user is not limited only to the terrestrial part and can easily go to conquer the sea. Any Viking journey cannot be complete without a personal drakkar, so in this guide we will tell you more about how to build a floating craft, and indicate what is needed for this. The game has three types of swimming facilities with which you can go to explore the waters of the Scandinavian world.

Raft

Raft

To build a raft, you must first create a hammer. You can find out how to open this tool in our separate guide.

At the end of the hammer crafting, the player will have access to the construction of the raft. To do this, you need to collect a certain amount of resources:

  • Wood (20 units);
  • Scraps of Leather (6 units);
  • Resin (10 units).

Now you need to place the workbench next to the water and use the special build menu. Leather Scraps are obtained from slain Boars, and Resin can drop when various trees are cut down. No other structures can be built on the raft. It can easily withstand even in large waves and will not turn over, but it can get stuck on a rock or climb onto the shore. Players need to be vigilant as nearby enemies, such as Draugr or Greydwarf, can attack the boat.

Karve

It takes a lot of effort to explore the Carve ship, which looks more like a regular boat. Collect 10 Surtling cores in dungeons such as Burial Chambers and unlock the Smelter and Charcoal kiln.

For the smelter you need to collect:

  • Stone (20 units);
  • Surtling kernels (5 units).

For a charcoal kiln, you need to collect:

  • Stone (20 units);
  • Surtling kernels (5 units).

After the construction of these two buildings, we use them to obtain the resources needed to install the forge.

For the forge you need to collect:

  • Stone (20 units);
  • Coal (4 units);
  • Wood (10 units);
  • Copper (6 units).

Now you need to kill the boss Eikthyr to get the Hard antler. With the help of it, the player will have to craft a pickaxe, which will be required to extract tin and copper in the Black Forest. For information on how to defeat the boss, see our dedicated guide.

For a pickaxe you need to collect:

  • Wood (10 units);
  • Hard horn (1 unit).
For bronze you need to collect:

  • Copper (2 units);
  • Tin (1 unit).

We create a bronze axe in the forge and go to chop birch or oak to obtain quality wood (Fine Wood).

For a bronze axe you need to collect:

  • Wood (4 units);
  • Bronze (8 units);
  • Scraps of Leather (2)

Return to the workbench and craft Bronze Nails to access the ship.

For bronze nails you need to collect:

  • Bronze (1 unit). For each unit of bronze we get 20 units of bronze nails.

We go to the water, set up a workbench nearby and collect the following resources that will be required to craft the ship:

  • Quality wood (30 units);
  • Deer skin (10 units);
  • Resin (20 units);
  • Bronze nails (80 units).

Longship

Longship

First you need to kill the Elder to get the Swamp Key. This item is required to access crypts in the swamp biome, in which you can knock out iron ore. For information on how to defeat the boss, see our dedicated guide.

We also get the ancient bark (Ancient Bark) from ancient trees using a bronze axe in the same biome. To open access to the ship, we return to the forge to produce Iron Nails.

We go to the water, set up a workbench next to it and create a ship with a sufficient amount of necessary resources:

  • Quality wood (40 units);
  • Deer skin (10 units);
  • Ancient bark (40 units);
  • Iron nails (100 units).

How to operate a raft and ship

How to operate a raft and ship

The developers have modernized the old control system, which required a lot of skill from the players. Now there are no special labels for management, so their use is no longer required. You only need to use the steering wheel to operate the boat. We raise the sail of the raft or ship using the "E" key and go in search of adventure. Do not forget to turn the steering wheel in the right direction and watch the tailwind.
