The fastest way to advance in Walheim is to collect enough materials to craft, forge, and then enjoy the crafted item. In this quick guide, we'll take a look at flint , the best early game material for tools and weapons.
For starters, flint can be found near the water, so head to the nearest coastline and retrieve it from the ground, pick it up and add it to your inventory. You won't have immediate use for this yet, but it's best to grab as much as you can while you're out and about and grab some wood and stone.
Flint-making in Walheim
Craft a hammer, and when you have enough materials to build a workbench, find an open spot to place it. This opens up a lot of building options, but before you can use the bench, you need to enclose it with walls and at least part of the roof.
This can be done by selecting the hammer on the Quick Access Toolbar and right-clicking to open the Build Options. Walls can be rotated with a scroll wheel and easily joined. Be sure to add a gate and a piece of roof to the structure.
Now that you have a basic hideout, you can open the workbench and see what can be built.
Valheim workbench
There are many things on the workbench to keep you busy for a while, from weapons and armor to clothing and tools. Our current focus is on what can be built from flint.
- Flint Ax - Flint Ax improves the stone, but not enough to be made first. It deals 25% more damage to trees and creatures, but with the amount you chop down, it wears out quickly. You can repair items, but it's probably best to stick with a stone if you don't have a spare flint.
- A flint knife is a useful tool, but you'll need leather trimmings first. You can get them by hunting animals like the boar, which is best done with the bow and arrows crafted on the bench, but can also be obtained with melee weapons like the spear.
- Flint Spear - If you're looking for an effective weapon, you can't go wrong with a spear, and since there is no stone option, this is a great option for your first real weapon. This also requires leather trimmings, so get started hunting!
- Flinthead Arrow - Once you find your first feathers, you will unlock the recipe for these improved arrows. They only need 2 flints for 20 arrows along with other materials, which makes them a good choice for boss fights, but we will use wooden arrows for hunting.
After you level up the workbench, the upgrade tab will allow you to upgrade them and pretty much everything else you have to level 2, increasing damage, durability, etc. through various resources.
