Almost every weapon, tool, and armor has a bar that shows the level of breakage of items. When it reaches red, then you will not be able to equip this item, which means that it cannot be used.

Fortunately, you don't need to spend a lot of resources to create a similar item, just repairing it will be enough.

How to repair items

First you need to build a workbench. However, if you know how to create more advanced weapons (bow, flint spear, etc.), then more than likely you know how it works. But in addition to the workbench, you also need some wood and a hammer, so when you explore a new location or biome, do not forget about these items.

So, you have a tree and a hammer, the next step is to find a flat piece of land. When you find such an area, then build a workbench on it and a shelter around it (wooden walls, etc.), since without "protection" you will not be able to use the workbench.

Note: Remember that with a workbench in the wild and in the open you will not be able to use it. It should stand inside a room or building, or something similar.

After you've built everything, go to the workbench and press the interact button (by default, the "e" key). The first menu that appears (on the right) displays all the items you can craft: weapons, armor, and tools. You need to pay attention to the left side of the menu, which shows a small hammer. Now you need to select (grab) the item (number 1) that you want to repair and point at this little hammer, and then click on it (number 2).

Here is the whole process of repairing equipment in Valheim, and most importantly, do not forget that you will need resources to repair equipment.
