In the survival game Valheim building houses is a big part of the gameplay. But especially at the beginning you don't have many options. With these tips it works early to build large houses.

That is why building houses is complicated: In Valheim, it is not just the right components that determine how your house looks. Stability is also an important factor. This makes it difficult to erect large buildings, especially at the start, because better materials such as stones or heartwood are only available later.

Normal wood is only stable up to a certain size and support beams do not necessarily fulfill the function that you imagine. It is more important how far your parts are from the foundations.

How does this work? To build a stable house, you have to pay attention to certain factors in Valheim. The distance to the ground, connection to foundations and horizontal supports are important.

So that you don't have to work out the most stable variant for each section of your house, you can simply build a section and use the same pattern over and over again. Quasi a kind of construction kit.

Uses "templates"

The Reddit user unionrodent has presented some examples of what this can look like. These are 20 meter wide longhouse designs that can be easily reassembled repeatedly until you have a large longhouse.

• You need a foundation
• Load-bearing outer walls
• 45 ° parts for the roof
• A middle beam with a Y-construction or parallel beams to support the roof on both sides 

Materials are used that you can easily collect right from the start. In principle, you just need wood for the walls and roof. No stones, heartwood or metals are needed. In addition, some parts offer a fume cupboard so that you do not suffer from smoke inhalation in the case of fireplaces in the house.

If you use such structures and put them together, you must continue to pay attention to the stability. The bigger your house gets, the more important it becomes. Inside the nave, wooden beams should always be built at a distance of four meters. Pay attention to the color in which the objects are displayed during construction.

These are the colors that are important when building:

• Blue: Foundation, directly connected to the ground or a foundation component such as stone
• Green: Object stands on a foundation and is stable
• Yellow and orange: becomes less stable, but still holds
• Red: The next part you attach to it will collapse

The foundation does not have to be made of stone or wood

The foundations shown above are made of stone, which can only be dismantled with a pickaxe or which has to be laboriously collected. You also need a stonemason workbench for the construction, which you will get later. You can also simply level the foundation with a hoe and build it on the ground. Build scaffolding or stairs

To get to the upper parts, you can simply build a staircase that reaches up to the roof. This doesn't even need a point to which it is connected. It is also possible to simply run up the roof walls that have already been placed.

Alternatively, you can simply build a second floor provisionally to work on the roof. Once you have completed the construction work, you can simply remove the scaffolding used.
