WoW: Blizzard really did it - This is what happens with Anduin Wrynn in Patch 9.1

The fate of the leader of the alliance in WoW: Shadowlands is grim. Anduin Wrynn's story continues in Patch 9.1.

The first leaks before BlizzCon 2021 have surfaced. In the run-up to the fair, Blizzard leaked important data about WoW - and also a concept drawing by Anduin Wrynn. One of the biggest developments is likely to hit many Allianz fans deep in their hearts. Because the reigning High King of the Alliance, Anduin Wrynn, will go through a dark change in Patch 9.1. We reveal what the jailer plans to do with the young King of Stormwind City.

What has happened so far? Anyone who has followed the history of WoW: Shadowlands bist at this point in time already had a rough idea of what happened to Anduin Wrynn:

  • The young King of Stormwind was captured by the jailer while storming the Shadowlands.
  • Sylvanas has tried to get Anduin over to her side to volunteer for her and the jailer.
  • Anduin stood firm and tried instead to convert Sylvanas.
  • The jailer, meanwhile, formed new instruments of domination and forged the Shalamayne sword into a grief blade.

This video shows the last known encounter between Sylvanas and Anduin that players experience at the end of the Torghast story:

What will happen in patch 9.1? The jailer and Sylvanas seem to have put their plan into action and turned Anduin into a tool of the Maw. He is now completely under the control of the jailer and has become a herald of death - at least that gives an idea of his new appearance.

Parallels to Arthas: It is particularly interesting that Anduin now has even more obvious parallels to the former Lich King Arthas Menethil. The previously blonde hair is now dyed white, the color of his eyes has been replaced by the cool blue that we otherwise know from the Lich King and his undead armies.

Blizzard had already hinted at these parallels to the Lich King in the previous expansion "Battle for Azeroth". There Anduin was often shown in poses and camera shots that were based on Arthas' career from Warcraft III.

Now this change has apparently been completed and Anduin has been converted, like Arthas once, into a weapon of the jailer.
