How to write bold messages on Telegram

You can choose the format of the messages you send by Telegram. Either in an individual chat or in a group chat and you can follow several methods: using the application menu, a code to add before and after each word or using bots that are available to modify the format. You can put bold in Telegram both on the computer, through the web version, and on the mobile phone. In group chats or in individual conversations in the app.

Sometimes you may need to highlight a message or a word within a message that you have sent to make it more important or stand out from the rest of the text. In this case, similar to how we do on websites or in documents and jobs, we can put bold on Telegram. You can do it with a word, a phrase or a single letter. It will only take a few seconds to do it.

You can choose the method you want from all devices:

  • Via @bold as a bot on Telegram
  • Using the menu included in the Telegram application
  • With a symbol code to enter before or after the message

Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages, so we explain how to use the three options to put bold on Telegram and choose the one that suits you best at all times.

Via @bold

By using the @Bold command before your message you can automatically make it bold . It is one of the commands that Telegram includes to make it easier to access everything in just a few seconds. This command allows us to write an entire message in bold, using it just before what we are going to write.

Just put @bold in the Telegram message box and then write the message you want to send. It will automatically be written in bold and you can send it to the person you want. You will see that on the message you have sent the label "via @bold" is written but it is sent as you have chosen.

Of course, there is a drawback: you will not be able to edit the message because it has not been sent by you as such but through the bot included in the application. Another problem is that you will not be able to send the message with only one word in bold and the rest not.

That is, you will have to put the @bold code at the beginning of the text sent by Telegram but you will not be able to place it in the center to send only one word of the phrase you want. This will limit you to highlight a word within a long message, for example, as it happens in WhatsApp.

In case you want to put a word in bold and the rest you cannot use the Telegram code in a similar way to how we do it in WhatsApp. You can mark a specific word and the rest of the message or phrase that does not appear as such.

Through code

The best solution to the previous problem is to bet on a kind of code similar to the one we use in WhatsApp. That is, you can use a series of symbols before or after the phrase or word you want to mark it in bold.

To do so, simply write the message you want in the Telegram advantage in the chat where you want to send it. Select the phrase or word you want and write two asterisks at the beginning and end of it. You can mark as many words as you want in the same paragraph. Just write and place ** just before and after what you want to highlight. As an example, it would be as you can see in the attached photographs: a message with ** bold ** highlighted in as many ** words ** as you want to add in the Telegram chat.

Through the menu

Another useful option to choose what you want to send in bold and what not, solving the @bold problem that includes the entire message, is to use the Telegram menu in the same way that we use in other messaging applications. Compose the full message on the "Message" screen in Telegram. Once you have the sentences written, all you have to do is make a long press on the word you want and slide the marker if you want to select several words or phrases.

Once you select them, you will see a pop-up menu with three options: Select all, Cut or three dots to access more options. Touch on the three points that you will see on the right side and a new drop-down will open in which you can choose.

The first option allows you to select “bold” . The word will automatically be in this format and you can repeat the process as many times as you want in the same message, selecting individual words from the same paragraph.

Other formats

It is not the only format you can access. Beyond the bold in Telegram you can also italicize, monospaced, underline or strike out as appropriate in each message. From the last section, using the Telegram menu, you can choose the format you want as appropriate at all times.

You can also have specific codes to do it that will be different from the asterisks for bold, for example.

The codes are as follows:

To use codes, you can do it in the same way as in Telegram:

  • To put italics you have to use __ before and after the message
  • If you want to use monospace , use «` before and after the word or phrase
