Games for a relaxing holiday. The best walking simulators

Sooner or later in the life of every gamer there comes a moment when all these furious shooters, convoluted quests and crazy chases are simply boring. I want to sit down, relax and play something more relaxed. In such a situation, the so-called "walking simulators" come to the rescue. It is with their help that it becomes possible to immerse yourself in an interesting virtual world without straining at all.

We decided to make a selection of the best projects in this genre, which will be a great way for you to truly relax and just enjoy the atmosphere.

That only there is a charming nature, which is hidden at the bottom of the ocean, and a huge number of sea inhabitants that you can touch in this game.

You will have to play as an ordinary scuba diver who travels through the depths of the sea in the hope of finding his main secret. Along the way, you have to explore deep caves, meet different types of fish and just enjoy the stunning visuals of ABZU... This is a very meditative game that will finally help calm your nerves after dozens of hours in meat shooters or intense role-playing games, where every wrong step leads to death. Be sure to try it when you just want to relax and get to know the underwater world better.

Tacoma

Tacoma

Release date: August 1, 2017
Platforms: PC, macOS PS5, XSX | S, PS4, XOne
For one only

If you've ever wondered what it's like to live on a space station, then Tacoma will gladly answer all your questions. This is a story about the greatest scientists who are at a huge station and are trying to explore the lunar surface in 2088. Moreover, you will have to travel both in physical condition and using the holograms of the main characters, which is the main feature of the game.

Basically, Tacoma tells an interesting story about isolation. It is in this project that you can learn what it is like to be locked up with other people. Here, the crew members are constantly in each other's company and they have no way to return home. Naturally, it will not do without "cool" plot twists, so Tacomathis is the case when a fairly simple walking simulator at some point can throw up a lot of interesting events. If you can't be dragged away from science fiction movies, then this game is definitely worth a try.

Oxenfree

Oxenfree

Release date: January 15, 2016
Platforms: PC, macOS PS5, XSX | S, PS4, XOne, Android, iOS
For one only

In fact, this is a classic story about a group of people who find themselves on an unknown island and try to unravel all its secrets. True, there is no such tinplate as in the same “LOST” series, and everything that happens is presented in a softer form. You play as a girl named Alex, who travels in the company of her acquaintances and gradually learns various details about them. Despite the fact that in Oxenfree you will have to not only walk, but also complete various tasks, the developers initially announced the project as a walking simulator.

Try Oxenfreeworth at least due to the interesting story and measured gameplay. This is a fairly meditative adventure, where you will mainly have to chat with the group members and observe the unusual landscapes of the mysterious island. Some people think that the project will be delayed, but in fact, this is what a classic walking simulator should be like. If you just relax and indulge in this game, you will have a lot of fun from what is happening on the screen.

Ether one

Ether one

Release date: March 25, 2014
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4
For one only

And even though this project is almost 7 years old, it will fall in love with itself without any problems even today. This is the case when, instead of a banal walking through the same type of locations, the game offers an interesting adventure. As soon as you start playing Ether One , after a few minutes you will want to know how it will all end, and you definitely will not abandon the game in half.

It is worth noting that the main feature of the project is the many branches of the adventure campaign. Moreover, the ability to choose the path here is tied to the rapidly developing dementia of the protagonist. Yes, this is not a fun game about funny travels with friends, bright rainbows and friendly ponies. Before you is a project that just in a gorgeous form shows a rather serious disease, but at the same time does not make the gameplay somehow terrifying, but rather gradually heats up the atmosphere of the unknown. Ether One is perfect for those who love walking simulators with a captivating storyline and some twist. It is these people who will be able to truly immerse themselves in this story.

Firewatch

Firewatch

Release date: February 9, 2016
Platforms: PC, macOS, PS5, XSX | S, PS4, XOne, Switch
For one only

It was difficult to do without this game in our selection, because this is a sample of a really exciting walking simulator that attracts attention due to an unpredictable plot. In Firewatch, you play as a guy named Henry, who is sent to work as a sentinel in one of the forests of Wyoming. Its main task is to prevent fires, which quite often occur in this area. At the same time, you don't have to sit stupidly on the tower and stare at the trees with binoculars. Just a few minutes after the start, the game turns everything that happens upside down, and you set off on a long journey with unpredictable plot twists.

The gameplay is all about the journey. The main character has only a map and a small walkie-talkie through which he conducts conversations with the dispatcher. Many have dubbed the game a journey for adults, because every dialogue here is on a fairly serious topic. In principle, I agree that Firewatch is not suitable for children, because they simply will not be able to imbue its philosophy, and the developers themselves have repeatedly stated that their game is for the older generation of gamers. If you are in your 20s and enjoy this genre, then Firewatch is definitely worth a try .

Gone Home

Gone Home

Release date: August 15, 2013
Platforms: PC, macOS, PS5, XSX | S, PS4, XOne, Switch, Wii U
For one only

Quite an old walking simulator with a really fascinating storyline. The events of the project take place in the house of the protagonist, which, after his return from vacation, suddenly turns out to be empty. All relatives and pets disappeared somewhere, while everything inside the house seemed to remain in its place. You are starting to get the impression that people have simply evaporated, and it is during the passage of Gone Home that you will have to find out what happened here after all.

The game attracts attention with its simplicity. There are no hard riddles or weird puzzles here. You just travel around the rather large country house for fun and explore it. Gradually, the player comes across various notes, photographs and other little things. In almost every item that is inside the home, there are some hints and clues. Gone Home definitely deserves the attention of fans of this genre, because you will not be able to do so intense and at the same time exciting walking through an empty house anywhere else.

SOMA

SOMA

Release date: September 22, 2015
Platforms: PC, macOS, PS5, XSX | S, PS4, XOne
For one only

Here is a walking simulator with horror elements. The main character - Simon wakes up at an underwater station and does not remember at all how he found himself at a depth of several thousand meters under water. You have to travel through the PATHOS-II station in the hope of finding at least some answers and eventually get out. At the same time, bloodthirsty monsters will periodically interfere with you, which will complete the fascinating journey of the protagonist with one blow.

Despite the addition of horror elements to SOMA , there is "Safe Mode" here. In it, monsters will only scare you and will not be able to kill you, which turns the game into a full-fledged walking simulator with a rather gloomy atmosphere. If you do not want to periodically watch the screen of death, then it is better to start acquaintance with SOMA it is from this mode, but if you like the project, then you can add a little danger to it.

The stanley parable

The stanley parable

Release date: July 31, 2011
Platforms: PC, macOS
For one only

The oldest representative of our collection, which, despite its age, remains relevant to this day and regularly flashes in various tops. The Stanley Parable is an exemplary walking simulator that offers a convoluted storyline, a pleasant atmosphere, and some pretty good humor. You play as an office worker named Stanley, who is used to staring blankly at the monitor and pressing keys. At one point, the screen goes blank, and the guy decides to go on an exciting journey through his office.

Initially, the game was a fan project on the Half-Life 2 engine, but then it quickly gained popularity among gamers, and the developers released a full-fledged remake. Now at The Stanley Parablethere are as many as 22 endings (which is surprising for an ordinary walking simulator), many locations, various items and interesting puzzles. In general, if you do not experience a panic attack at the sight of the office (perhaps you work elsewhere), then this game will be a really addictive adventure for you.

Death stranding

Death stranding

Release date: November 8, 2019
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4
Co-op for: 100

Well, who else did you expect to see at the end of this collection? No matter what they say about Death Stranding , but it is how a walking simulator does the game work best. This is a stunning project that offers truly meditative gameplay with incredibly cool visuals. Traveling through snow-capped mountains and green meadows with a whole mountain of boxes behind the back of the protagonist is a pleasure. Sometimes you even catch yourself thinking that Death Stranding offers some previously unknown gaming experience. This is how this game is both similar to walking simulators, and at the same time completely different from them.

Although there is a rather unhurried narrative here, which is fully revealed somewhere after chapter 4, you can still enjoy the gameplay. At first, you don't pay attention to the plot at all, because you just like to be engaged in the delivery of goods. I understand why some people didn't like Death Stranding , but if you treat it as a relaxing walking simulator, then you will not find a better representative of the genre today.

Now you have the opportunity to choose a walking simulator to your liking and finally find an alternative to those games that require maximum concentration and mercilessly "devour" your nerve cells during the next battle with the boss. This genre helps to relax and, after tens of hours of stress, get relaxation in the form of a video game. That is why it deserves everyone's attention, and also regularly acquires new projects.
