In Dark Pictures: House of Ashes, the developers did not deviate from the familiar style and repeated all the multiplayer mechanics of the previous games in the series. Players have access to single player, movie party and cooperative story modes. In this article, we will talk in detail about the presence of cross-platform and analyze each of the available options for passing Dark Pictures: House of Ashes.

Single story. How to play without co-op 

This standard mode is for one user. In the process of passing, the player will have to make decisions on his own and go through all the tests alone. Story achievements, collection of secrets and paintings do not depend on the selected mode, so it is not necessary to play the game with friends to open all collectibles.

Movie party. How to play with a friend in co-op mode 

Multiplayer mode that allows you to play the game in the company of two to five people. It should be borne in mind that in Dark Pictures: House of Ashes there is no Split Screen, which is usual for many local games. Before the story begins, all users must assign roles to each other. As the game progresses, the story develops at the same pace as in the single player game, and only one device is required to control the characters.

When changing a character, the game stops and prompts the appropriate user to take the controller. We transfer control to the specified player and press the key to continue the story. In this case, it is not necessary to rush, since the story will continue only after pressing the correct button.

To start the "Movie Party" mode, do the following:

1. In the main menu, select the item "Do not play alone."
   
2. Click on "Movie Party" and open "New History".
   
3. Choose "Canonical version" (main path) or "Curator's Cut" (story from a different angle).
   
4. We select the difficulty level for each user, write down their names and press the "Ready" button.
   
5. We distribute the roles between the players and use the "Ready" button to start the game.

Shared history. How to start a multiplayer mode in an online game and play together with a friend 

Online mode is also available on one screen, thanks to which users can invite one friend to a joint adventure. The gameplay is also no different from the movie party. To start the online mode, you can use the instructions above, however, in the second paragraph, you must select the "Shared story" section and invite one friend.

What is Curator's Cut and How to Open It 

Unlike the canon version, a unique mode is available to users. As in previous parts of the anthology, each player can re-immerse themselves in the story, but see it from the perspective of other characters. For example, in the initial chapter "Curse", instead of the guard Balutu, users will take control of the prisoner Kurum.

In most cases, these actions will not significantly affect the main plot, however, in this mode, players have the opportunity to influence further events. Curator's Cut is unlocked after completing the story for the first time. This mode will also be available to all players who pre-ordered Dark Pictures: House of Ashes.

Is there cross-platform and cross-gen in Dark Pictures: House of Ashes? 

As in previous parts of the anthology, the new game from Supermassive Games lacks cross-platform functionality. This means that PC, Xbox and PlayStation users cannot play with each other on different devices. Players must have identical devices to start co-op mode.

It is worth considering that there is a crossgene in the game. This means that PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users can play together online. This also applies to owners of Xbox One X and Xbox Series X / S.
