What is Windows 11? With Windows 11 comes the latest version of the Windows operating system from Microsoft. Microsoft would like to future users of convince Windows 11 with numerous innovations and improvements. Microsoft has made some changes to the popular operating system, especially in terms of design.

The upgrade to Windows 11 is now officially available. We explain to you the fastest way to upgrade your system to the new operating system. 


Who can upgrade anything? Microsoft has already approved the upgrade for in-house Surface devices and hardware from partners. If you have such a device, then in the best case scenario you will even get the upgrade directly via the Windows update.

All other users can also download the upgrade from Microsoft's official tool. However, Microsoft recommends waiting for an upgrade via Windows update.

Windows 11 upgrade - these are the requirements

What you need for the upgrade: You need the following things for the upgrade to Windows 11 to work:

  • You have a valid Windows 10 license and Windows 10 is installed on your computer
  • Your device meets the hardware requirements for Windows 11. The requirements are at least a dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of hard disk space, TPM 2.0 and DirectX 12.
  • Windows 10, version 2004 or higher must be installed on your computer for the upgrade to work.
  • You need at least 9 GB of free hard disk space to be able to perform the upgrade.
  • You also need the Windows 11 Upgrade Assistant. You can get the little tool directly from Microsoft (via microsoft.com ).
  • In the best case scenario, you should also check whether there are already official drivers for Windows 11 for your device. You can then install this directly after the upgrade.

Are you afraid that something could go wrong during the installation? Then create a backup of your Windows 10 beforehand. For the impatient, this is also possible with the official on-board resources. To do this, go to Windows 10 under "System and Security" and then select "Backup and restore (Windows 7)." You can then set up a backup here. 


Windows 11 installation - it's that easy

This is how you proceed: The installation for Windows 11 is not very complicated. In these instructions we explain how to install Windows 11 as quickly as possible:

  • Before upgrading, you need to run the PC Integration Check Tool. You can then also use the upgrade wizard. You can get the PC integration test app directly from Microsoft (via microsoft.com ).
  • Starts the Windows 11 upgrade wizard. You can get the assistant here (via microsoft.com ). The tool requires administrator rights, otherwise the installation will fail. The file is around 4 megabytes in size.
  • The tool will now test once again whether your hardware is compatible with Windows 11. You don't have to do anything else here, the tool does that automatically.
  • After the check you have to accept the license conditions. Here you click on "Accept and install".
  • The tool will now download the upgrade file in the background. After the download you have to press "Restart now" and your computer will restart. Back up your data beforehand, which you still have open!
  • After the restart, the installation will run automatically. If you are upgrading a laptop, make sure to connect the device to a power source!
