Minecraft: Build Creeper Farm for 1.17 - So you can easily get a lot of gunpowder

In our guide for a creeper farm in farm a Minecraft for version 1.17, we show you how to lot of black powder quickly. The creepers are farmed automatically while you stand around at an AFK spot and wait.

What kind of farm is that? The materials for the Creeper Farm are easy to obtain. You build the farm and an AFK spot and can then simply leave your Minecraft active while the farm automatically kills creepers and collects the black powder for you in boxes.

We tested the Creeper farm in version 1.17 of Minecraft and the Java version on the PC.

Tutorial - This is how you build the creeper farm in version 1.17

The beginning: Find an area that is far away from caves. Preferably at a height of more than 60. You can often copy the farm on top of each other to increase your yield of gunpowder and creeper. But keep in mind that your AFK spot should be about 120 blocks above the farm. So you also need space upstairs.

First you build five of your building blocks at the beginning, then move three blocks inwards, build two blocks next to each other and then go again with three blocks in the other direction, so that you are back on the original line on which you five blocks placed next to each other. Then you build 13 blocks inside. This is your outer wall. Mirrors the whole to create a closed shape. It should then look like this:

The basic structure - the type of floor is random - the floor stones on the top side are irrelevant

Now pull up a second layer of the blocks you just placed.

Now go to the middle of the 13-block wall and place a carpet there on the ground. Your cat will sit in that place. Do the same on the other side as well. Your cats have to love you so that they can stay where they are when you command them. You can use food to make them obey you.

Then place the other carpets in the middle of the base and with a distance of two blocks from each other. As you can see on the following graphic. Remember, the blocks with the cats are an exception and are only one block apart.

Now dig a 3x2x4 hole in the middle of the farm between the two blocks wide walls. Three blocks side by side, two blocks wide and 4 blocks deep. This is where your creepers will fall for.

The upper edges of this hole are equipped with trap doors that you open downwards.

It is best to keep the trap doors in your hand, because you will now use them to build a roof. Use the upper edge of your two block high outer wall and cover the inside of your farm with the trap doors.

This ensures that only creepers spawn inside (the carpets help against spiders).

This is what the roof made of trapdoors should look like

You can cover the middle above the hole with trap doors if you plan to build only one level of this farm. If you want to build several levels, you can leave the hole open - as in the picture shown above.

Now jump into the hole in the middle and place both water sources on one side on the lowest blocks. The creepers are driven to perdition with the flow of water. So choose the direction so that you can still build a storage room there.

Place your water sources here

Dig eight blocks with the stream from the water source. This path is two blocks up. At the eighth block you dig one block deeper so that the water source continues to flow and then go another eight blocks.

Place your campfire under the last two blocks of water and underneath the two hoppers that are connected to the double crate.

So the funnels, the campfires and the box should be placed so that the loot falls into the box

Now you can line the room with glass or other stones. Glass is a good way to see the creepers and see your trap in action. However, you are usually only trapped and see creepers when you jump straight out of your AFK house and run into the trap.

So you can watch the creepers if you are trapped, if there are still some drifting on the fire

Dig your way up from this room. In the future, this will be your way to loot the farmed black powder from the boxes below.

Now go upstairs and cover the “roof” of your trap with the stone steps. Place them on the outside wall and on the trap doors. If you want to build several levels, then do without the steps at this point and instead place blocks like cobblestone, which form the floor of the next level. The roof made of stone steps is intended for the last, highest level.

Now the farm is ready. All you have to do now is stack your 120 scaffolding on top of each other and build a safe room from blocks above, in which you can AFK stand. Start building the scaffolding right on the wall of the farm.

While you are standing in the room, the creepers spawn in your trap, run into the hole in the middle out of fear of the cats and are washed by the water onto the campfires on which they burn.

The gunpowder loot then falls into the funnels and from there, because they are connected to the box, is directed into the box. You then only have to come down to your room to loot.

How effective is it? In our test, the creeper farm produced 170 to 200 black powder in 15 minutes. For this we used a structure of 5 levels on top of each other. This simple construction is definitely worthwhile for farming. If you want, you can then double the whole thing elsewhere.

Note that you have to be in your AFK house for the creepers to spawn in the farm.
