Minecraft: Build an iron farm in 1.17 - Simple farm for beginners

In this guide we are building an iron farm in Minecraft 1.17. It works with the Bedrock version and also with the Java version on the PC. Beginners can easily recreate the farm and quickly farm a lot of iron from golems.

What kind of farm is that? With this farm you can quickly farm a lot of iron right from the start of your Minecraft world. All you need is items that are easy to obtain, such as cobblestone, beds, water, lava and signs. In our list of ingredients we show you exactly what you need.

Keep in mind that this is an iron farm for beginners on the PC, it can still be expanded and expanded.

Build an iron farm with these ingredients - item list

What do you need

  • 68 blocks of cobblestone
  • Can also be other solid stones. In our example we call it Cobblestone
  • 5 beds
  • 32 blocks of glass
  • 1 bucket of water
  • 1 bucket of lava
  • 1 box
  • 4 signs
  • 48 walls
  • 3 hoppers (funnel)
  • 2 to 5 villagers
We got the idea for this type of iron farm from Voltrox on YouTube .

Instructions - This is how you build the iron farm

The beginning: First, explore the area and choose a nice spot for your iron farm. There should be no buildings nearby, or if so, so that no iron golems spawn on them. So there shouldn't be a village with active villagers nearby.

Get started with Cobblestone. Put 8 blocks on top of each other and use them to build your way up. The 8th block is the base of a platform - build a 5 × 5 block platform: 5 blocks wide, 5 blocks long.

Then you place the beds on the platform as shown in the following picture and place a block of cobblestone on the free areas of your platform on which there is no bed. The cobblestone blocks thus surround the platform, apart from one point where the foot end of a bed is on the outside. Make sure that you place the beds exactly as in the picture.

Now you place glass blocks on the cobblestone and also over the foot of the bed on the outside. Glass surrounds your platform as a wall upwards. The glass wall is two blocks high.

Now you can place the villager in your glass box. You need at least 5 pieces. 2 are enough, however; then if you toss carrots to your ironworkers, they will multiply. If you have the opportunity, bring in all 5 villagers.

You place the box on one corner of the glass and place three funnels directly on the three free blocks, which you connect to the box with a Shift-Click.

Now fill the rest of this level with a layer of cobblestone. It looks like this in the following picture:

The mob trap: Now fence the platform on the box + funnel + cobblestone with your wall. The wall should be three blocks high.

On one side at the corner with the funnels you place two signs: One on the lower wall block directly above a funnel and one on the middle wall block, directly above the first shield.

You place the 2 remaining signs on the topmost part of the wall. However, they do not come directly over the funnel, but into the middle of the wall to the left and right of the funnel. This leaves the block directly above the funnel free and leaves room for the lava.

This is how it should look like:

Now fill the bucket of lava on the sign that was placed two places above the funnel. The lava should now be trapped in the corner.

In the opposite corner you fill the bucket of water on the floor. The water flows directly towards the funnel and lava.

This is how the iron golem trap works

This is what happens: During the night the villagers will lie down in their beds. During the day, iron golems will spawn in your walled-in platform every few minutes.

The golems are driven directly into the lava by the water and defeated there after several hits. The loot does not burn because the lava is not on the ground. Instead, the iron bars fall directly into the funnel and from there are directed into the box.

If you have followed our guide, the iron golems will soon run into the fire and drop the loot into your box

You have to know that: a farm like this only works during the day. You should be nearby and go to sleep quickly at night so that the farm works efficiently.

How much iron do you make? In the test, we earned 25 iron bars in 15 minutes with one platform. If you want, you can build the farm several times and farm even more iron.

3 to 5 iron bars drop per iron golem. And if you're lucky, there will be one or two flowers to go with it. This is not the fastest iron farm, but a strong start for beginners.

If you have tried the farm, please write us your opinion here in the comments.
