New World: All about luck - this makes it easier for you to get rare weapons and items

Loot plays a big role in every MMORPG. In New World, too, players are happy when they can bag a rare drop. In this article we show you everything you have to pay attention to in order to get rare items more often and how exactly “luck” works .

What are Rare Items in New World? There are currently (as of October 27, 2021) 5 different degrees of rarity in the game. As a rule, the higher the rarity, the more valuable and stronger the item. Here is a brief overview from Frequently Occurring to Extremely Rare.

Common - gray background

  • Equipment: No special bonuses or effects.
  • Materials: You can find them almost everywhere or very often in the game (wood or stone, for example)

Unusual - green background

  • Equipment: Can carry a maximum of 1 special effect
  • Materials: Already here it becomes difficult to collect certain materials. For example Natterstein - a material that is particularly in demand and popular among players. In this article you will learn how to get these precious stones

Rare - blue background

  • Equipment: Can carry a maximum of 2 special effects (including jewel socket)
  • Materials: Certain items take a few hours to get hold of

Epic - purple background

  • Equipment: Can carry a maximum of 3 special effects (including jewel socket)
  • Materials: Certain items take a few hours to get hold of

Legendary - orange background

  • Equipment: Can carry a maximum of 4 special effects (including jewel socket)
  • Materials: Certain items take days to get hold of

There are two categories of happiness : The game differentiates between:

  • Monsters and chests
  • The breakdown of materials
This means: If you have focused as much as possible on the loot from monsters and chests, it does not affect the drop chance of materials that you get by mining.

Is happiness really worth it? Anyone in Guild Wars 2 will know the value of Magic Find. It's supposed to increase the chance of rare items in the game, but it's not really worth it. You don't really notice any difference.

In New World, however, there is noticeably better loot. Significantly more pieces of equipment are dropped than in average MMORPGs. Since you can increase your luck by over 30%, the buff is especially noticeable with rare and epic drops.

Get rarer drops from monsters and chests with lucky equipment

How exactly does “happiness” work? “Luck” is an attribute in New World that can be increased with equipment and other options. For example, if you have 30% more “luck”, an item drops with a normally 10% chance, now with a 13% chance.

Which equipment gives more “luck”? Each equipment slot can bring you more luck for monsters and chest drops. Accordingly, there are 13 slots that you can equip with this effect.

  • 5 slots for armor (head / body / arm / leg / foot)
  • 1 slot for shield
  • 3 slots for jewelry (necklace / earring / ring)
  • 3 slots for bags
  • 1 slot for the active weapon
13 slots can give you “luck”

Even more luck with pearls : You can also use pearls to block equipment that has gem slots. “Flawless Pearl” is the highest level among the jewels and brings you a whopping 0.5% “luck”, per socketed armor, weapon and jewelry slot.

What is the maximum “luck” on prey equipment? The higher the setup value, the more “luck” the effect brings. Thus, equipment value 600 with 2.8% “luck” per equipment is the highest value you can get at the moment. However, there are some items that are exceptions and bring even more.

So 33.6% more “luck” is an achievable goal here. You can only get weapons with the value “luck” from certain quests or boss drops and are much more difficult to find, so we do not include them in this calculation.

Lucky equipment also brings rarer items when collecting or dismantling

Do I need other equipment for collecting? Yes. Because the equipment described above only applies to monsters and chests. For rare materials that can only be obtained by mining certain raw materials, you need different equipment. Every collecting discipline, i.e. mining, skinning, etc., needs its own luck equipment.

Which equipment gives more “luck” when collecting? Unlike monsters and chests, there are only 7 slots that give you this value when you mine. Here is a brief overview.

  • 5 slots for equipment (head / body / arm / leg / foot)
  • 1 slots for jewelry - necklace
  • 1 slot for the appropriate tool (wooden ax / harvest sickle / skinning knife / pickaxe)
What is the maximum "luck" on mining equipment? Here, too, the higher the set-up value, the more “luck”. An item 600 armament value brings you 5% per slot on the certain discipline. Necklaces and tools stand out because these slots can bring you up to 10% more luck.

45% more collecting luck is possible through your equipment, which is already a very decent number.

More ways to develop “happiness”

Trophies bring you extreme advantages: If you have the right trophies hanging in your house, you can also increase the luck value. A “small booty trophy” can increase the drop chance of rare materials in monsters and chests again.

What about buff food? Cooked meals increase the chance of rare loot. Food at level 5 in particular boosts the value immensely. Here is an overview of the best dishes for more "happiness":

  • Salted, roasted all sorts - luck in mining
  • Spicy meat pie - good luck for the harvest
  • Hearty fish casserole - happiness on skins
  • Salted chicken with cabbage - luck in logging
