The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes Playing time and length of all chapters

Playing time: That's how long it takes you to finish House of Ashes

Like all games in "The Dark Pictures Anthology" series, House of Ashes is a cinematic game that can have different lengths based on the type of game you play. If you the best ending want to achieve , i.e. all five protagonists survive the night, you will have to invest a little more time than those whose characters are dying left and right.

All in all, the story should occupy you for around 6 to 8 hours . If you aim to find all of the collectibles, the total game time could increase to around 7 to 9 hours.

House of Ashes: scope of all chapters

The story is divided into a total of six chapters, which are again divided into individual scenes. The exact length of a chapter is difficult to determine because there is often no indication of when to start. What can be said, however, is that the chapter "The Storm" is the longest, while in "Damn" you spend comparatively little time.

House of Ashes consists of the following chapters:

  • Damned
  • The storm
  • The signal
  • The horror
  • The ancient one
  • Alien ages

After finishing the respective chapter, you can select it in the menu and play it again. But be careful: you cannot select any specific scenes and you have to play the chapter again from the beginning. This can be useful for saving a character, but it will add more time to your game account.

House of Ashes: what to do after the end?

The developers of House of Ashes recommend that you tackle and experience the story of Nick, Rachel, Eric, Salim and Jason several times in order to really understand every facet of the story. If you have reached the best end, it would be a possibility, for example, to try to see the light of day again with just one character.

There is also another game mode that you can try out. With "Don't play alone" you can walk through the abyss with your friends. Here you can access an online option and play with your friends, no matter how far away they are, or use the local option where you pass the controller on. The latter shows you when you should hand the controller to the next player while playing.

If that's not enough for you, you can try out two other styles of play: Choose only the heart decisions or only the head decisions in one game run to get a completely different insight into the inside of the characters and to change the story. You will also receive a trophy for both styles.
