Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Increase friendship and find a gentle bell

 The friendship between you and your monsters can be very useful in Pokémon Radiant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It gives you advantages in battle, but there are some Pokémon that can only evolve with a high friendship value. In this guide we explain what you should do or avoid in order to increase affection.


Location of the soft bell

If you give a Pokémon the gentle bell to wear, the friendship value increases 50% faster. Do you want z. B. specifically develop a certain Pokémon, then you should get the soft bell. To do this, you have to go south from Herzhofen on Route 212. This is where you will find the Pokémon Manor, which you have to enter . In the building you have to go into the middle room in the west wing. Talk to the maid and she'll give you the soft bell.


So you increase the friendship value

There are numerous activities that can increase your Pokémon's affection for you. Below we list everything you should consider to increase friendship:

  • As already mentioned, give your Pokémon the soft bell to wear.
  • If you catch a Pokémon with a Luxury Ball, it will also become trusting faster. You can buy luxury balls in Sonnewik and in the Pokémon League.
  • Keep Pokémon on your team. After a certain number of steps, the friendship always increases a little.
  • If a Pokémon rises in the level, the affection also increases.
  • If you use Pokémon in important battles (e.g. Gym Leader or Pokémon League ), friendship increases.
  • Have your Pokémon massaged in Schleiede or at the Ribbon Syndicate (recreation area). However, you can only do this once a day.

  • Pokémon vitamins that increase the status values ​​(KP-Plus, iron, protein, etc.) also increase the friendship value.
  • Combat items, such as X-attack or X-defense, have a positive influence on friendship.
  • If you give your Pokémon the following berries, friendship increases: Grana, Setang, Qualot, Honmel, Labrus and Tamot berries. Please note, however, that it also has an impact on the EVs.
  • If you hatch a Pokémon from an egg , the base friendship value is significantly higher than that of a captured Pokémon.

The following things have a negative effect on friendship:


  • If a Pokémon is possessed in battle, the affection is reduced.
  • Do not give your Pokémon any bitter medicine (healing powder, energy dust, power roots and vital herbs) that you can buy in the herb shop in Ewigenau. That lowers the friendship value enormously.
  • When a Pokémon is traded, the friendship is reset to the base value.

How you check friendship

There are several NPCs who can give you information about the friendship value of your Pokémon. That would be a woman in the Pokémon Center in Ewigenau, a woman in the Pokémon fan club in Herzhofen and Dr. Stepstep whose house is on the coast of Route 213. The most convenient way to do this is to use the Pokétch friendship app. The app is activated when you talk to the woman mentioned in the Pokémon Center in Ewigenau .


What is the point of friendship anyway?

Strictly speaking, "trust" has been the correct term since the 8th generation . This combines the advantages of “friendship” and “trust”, which were previously interpreted separately. Positive trust has the following effects:

  • If you have reached the first level of trust, your Pokémon will hop when you send it into battle. From now on there is a slim chance that it will survive a fatal hit.
  • The next level ensures that your Pokémon gets 20% more experience points. There is also a chance that it will heal status changes on its own.
  • If the friendship has reached its maximum, there is a small chance that your Pokémon will avoid enemy attacks. In addition, the hit rate is slightly increased.

Which Pokémon evolve through friendship

Apart from the listed positive effects in combat, there are some Pokémon that require a high friendship value in order to develop . If the friendship is high enough, the next level-up takes care of development. The following Pokémon are meant:
