These are all the Great Grotto of Wonders missions in Crisis Core FFVII - Reunion, with the requirements to unlock each one, the objective, and the rewards you will get for completing them.

M9: Great Grotto of Wonders or Great Grotto of Wonders is the 9th quest group of Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII - Reunion. These are all the missions in this block, the requirements you must meet to unlock each one, the guide if necessary, and the rewards you will get for doing so:


M9-1: Invitation to the underground

There are 6 quests in the Invitation to the Underground block:


M9-1-1: Underground caves

  • Difficulty: 5/10.
  • Objective: We have discovered a second underground lair near the great cavern to the north. We cannot determine if it was formed naturally or if it is the work of man. Shinra sent a team of scientists, but none have returned. It's time for you to take action.
  • Loot: Aegis Bracer x1.

This quest is activated by completing M8-5-6: Treasure Information 6. There are a total of four chests to find: the first one will be on your path; the second and third to the north and south of the crossing; the quarter of the way to the objective. You're going to meet a bloody molbol. You know full well what this means: status ailments to cascoporro, so be sure to bring Esna or accessories to avoid status ailments.

M9-1-2: Further into the caves

  • Difficulty: 6/10.
  • Objective: the caves are much deeper than we had originally estimated. The high command has decided to carry out a full investigation which we will carry out in several phases. Go very carefully and without haste.
  • Drop: Electro Edge materia ++ x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are four chests - the first two are in your path; the other two are taking the northeast bypass to the southeast. In the end, you will face two darkness and two prey dogs. You must be very careful: the shadows use Death Fang, and the reds can paralyze you, with the obvious danger that the combination represents. Throw some tocha magic from a distance to finish them all off.

M9-1-3: Footprints of an intruder

  • Difficulty: 6/10.
  • Objective: signs of human life have been found in the depths of the caves, which indicates that we are not the first to set foot in that place. Investigate the surroundings and if you find hostile elements, you have the green light to eradicate them.

The target is two Spartans (don't stand in front of them, the machine gun can paralyze you and that's certain death) and a Baldor G, one of the stronger versions of the Genesis clones. He has the Energy magic, if he uses it, you better dodge it.

M9-1-4: Genesis Interception

  • Difficulty: 6/10.
  • Objective: We still don't know for sure what Genesis's real objectives are, but if he has deployed some of his troops in these caves, there is no doubt that he is up to something. He eliminates the Genesis forces as he explores the caves.
  • Loot: High Jump Materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find five chests during the mission. The first one is right next to where you start and the second one is behind you. You will find the third one at the most northwestern junction that you can get to. The fourth one will be on the path that leads to the objective from that junction, and the fifth one will be on the path that takes you from the southernmost junction east to the objective. You will have to defeat two Paladin G who, honestly, since they cannot cause instadeath as the other enemies in the area do, are not even that bad.

M9-1-5: Secret maneuvers

  • Difficulty: 7/10.
  • Target: A Soldier agent who was collaborating with our investigative unit has fallen into the hands of the Genesis troops. Go to the area where the agent was stationed and annihilate the enemy.
  • Drop: Wall materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find no less than eight chests: the first one is next to you, right at the beginning; the second will be going east from the first junction; the third and fourth are at the most southeastern junction; the fifth will be in the extreme southeast; the last three are on their way to the target. You must defeat an annihilator++ and two Spartans. The soldiers are more dangerous than the machine, but luckily they take fewer hits.

M9-1-6: The Genesis Threat

  • Difficulty: 7/10.
  • Objective: There is no doubt that we had underestimated the strength of the Genesis troops. We must neutralize them if we want to continue with our investigations. Annihilate the surrounding enemies.
  • Loot: Elixir x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. This time there are only three chests: you will see the first one on your way; the second in the southwest corner of the large square area and the third in the northeast corner of the same area. The target is a group of killing machine, a barrier, and a shield, meaning one is immune to physical damage and the other to magical. Attack in sequence, but they won't give you too much trouble.

M9-2: Skirmishes

There are 6 missions in the Skirmish block:

  • M9-2-1: A third power
  • Difficulty: 7/10.
  • Objective: We have received reports of a third warring group operating in the caves. Head to the area immediately, find out who they are, and if they are hostile, kill them.
  • Loot: Tornado Toxis materia x1.
This quest is activated by completing M9-1: Invitation to the Underground. There are five chests during the mission: two right at the start; the third going south at the junction; the fourth will be going north at the junction and the fifth if you go west once you get to the north end. You will face a Vajradhara Kumbhira and Vajradhara Kannara .

M9-2-2: Guns Out of Control

  • Difficulty: 7/10.
  • Objective: Armored tanks have been dispatched to fight Genesis and the Wutai forces, but something has caused the machines to be unable to distinguish between friend and foe. The only thing we can do is send you to the conflict zone to destroy them.
  • Loot: Heroic Salt x2.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find five chests: one on your way; another two going east at the north junction and another two on the way to the objective. The enemy is a group of turrets. They can cause Stoppage, rob you of MP, and paralyze you... Throw a few bolts and they'll go out forever.

M9-2-3: Back in the caves

  • Difficulty: 8/10.
  • Objective: we have a new request for you to investigate the caves. All reports point to the Genesis forces still being active. Proceed with the investigation and kill any rogue focus you find.
  • Loot: Elemental Sword x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will be able to open five chests. You will find the first one going behind your back as soon as you start; two more going north at the junction and the other two on their way to the objective. The enemy is a very dangerous equite G, one of the clones with wings and claws. Remember that they have a lot of attack power, cast powerful magic, and have a special that exceeds normal health level unless you have been following our guide.

M9-2-4: A new path discovered

  • Difficulty: 8/10.
  • Objective: we have received reports about a new route opened in the bowels of the caves. We assume that neither Genesis nor the Wuatai forces are aware of this new passage. He begins to investigate immediately.

  • Objective: the last mission has brought us an infinite amount of information, including how to descend to the lower levels of the caves. We have decided that you continue with your investigation. Start the mission immediately.
  • Drop: Iron Fist materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find six chests on the map: one as you progress; four going southeast at the south junction and one on the way to the objective, one worm, one bom, and two swarms.

M9-2-6: Matter Signs

  • Difficulty: 8/10.
  • Objective: a violent reaction of matter has been detected inside the caves. We believe that there could be some kind of matter buried underground. Go there and get her.
  • Loot: Turbo PS materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one and there are five chests. You will find the first three turning around as soon as you start, going to the edge. The fourth is on the way to the objective and the fifth is in the southeast corner of the square area of ​​the marker. The target is Gibberish, a behemoth. He can use brutally powerful physical attacks and throw lightning bolts and special attacks to kill you instantly, so get your act together.

M9-3: Into the unknown

M9-3-1: Limitless

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: The true magnitude of the caves remains a mystery: the passageways go deeper and deeper into the earth and we have no choice but to investigate them. Head to the designated area and start exploring.

This mission is activated by completing M9-2: Skirmishes. You will find five chests: one behind you, right at the beginning; another two in the first square area and two more going north at the junction before the objective. You must defeat a group of mandrakes to sahuagines.

M9-3-2: The Genesis Challenge

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: Once again, we have confirmed the presence of the Genesis troops in the caves. They have reportedly entered the depths of the grottos equipped with new weapons. Go to the place where they were last seen and kill them.
  • Drop: Guard Ring x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find five chests: the first one is next to you; the second turning west at the first junction; the rest are in your way. The target is a killing machine and two missile launchers. The big problem is the number of status ailments you can suffer at once, including both Stop and Stun, and the second won't start to clear until the first wears off. If you manage to land a Daring Strike early on, you'll kill one or hopefully two.

M9-3-3: The new weapon of Genesis

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: The new type of weapon that Genesis has added to its arsenal seems to have overwhelming power. Said weapons must be destroyed to stop the enemy's offensive. Go to his position as soon as possible.
  • Loot: Duo's Shop (a new shop is going to be available).
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are six chests to find - the first will be a little further down the road. To find the second one, go north at the intersection and cross the bridge. Then turn around to the junction and go west to find the third one. The other three you will find if, from there, you go west toward the objective, a Shinra tank.

M9-3-4: The Genesis Superweapon

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: The Genesis troops have prepared more powerful weapons. We believe that only a 1st class could survive their attacks. Infiltrate the caves and destroy the prototypes before they manage to activate them.
  • Loot: Magic Strike materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find six chests: two along the path at the beginning; a third chest in the far southwest; another two when going north through the central tunnel and one more going to the objective. The opponent to beat is a guardian scorpion. It doesn't differ from other versions of the enemy you've seen, except that it does more damage.

M9-3-5: The Pride of Wutai

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: A group of Wutai troops that we thought destroyed have been located in the caves. It seems they have entrenched themselves with their best men at the lower levels. We don't know what they're up to, but we must thwart their plans at all costs. Take down Wutai's elite troops.
  • Loot: Escort Mail x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. Find a total of seven chests: the first one by going south to the dead end, the next two along the path before the first junction; the fourth going north, before the objective; two more going south and southwest from the junction before the enemy and the other two going west and up the northwest to the objective. It is a Vajradhara Asura accompanied by an officer. The soldier can use Doomburst, so that should be your priority.

M9-3-6: The End of Wutai

  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: The remaining Wutai soldiers in the caves have been eliminated. You must take this opportunity to explore the deeper levels. We have confirmed the presence of monsters, so you will have to fight your way in order to advance.
  • Loot: Fulgor mteria x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find five chests, all on the way to the objective. You must eliminate a wanderer, a gargoyle, and a pumpkin. They all cast very powerful magic, and you need to watch out for both the Wanderer's Ultima and the gargoyle, which can kill you instantly.

M9-4: Pandemonium

There are 6 quests in the Pandemonium block:

  • M9-4-1: Genesis Ambition
  • Difficulty: 9/10.
  • Objective: The Genesis troops are marching again. Their new state-of-the-art weapons are wreaking havoc on us, but we can't leave the caves at their mercy. Annihilate these worthy rivals.
  • Loot: Kaiser's knuckles x4.
This mission is activated by completing M9-3: Into the Unknown. You will find eight chests: the first one behind you as soon as you start; the second and third in the extreme southeast; one more at the north exit of the intersection through which you have gone southeast; the fifth, sixth and seventh going southwest (one contains a double Magic materia) and the last one on the way to the target. You will face a Renegade G, a stronger variant of the clones.

M9-4-2: The Passion of Genesis

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: New copies of Genesis, using tactics that we have never seen before, have assembled an army and marched towards the caves inexorably. Go after them and stop their advance to prevent them from achieving their sinister goals.
  • Loot: Fat Chocobo Luma x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are eight chests: the first is right at the start; the next two going by the northwest turnoff; the fourth and fifth at the junction north of the central tunnel; two more in the central tunnel and another on the way to the objective. The enemy will be a pair of finis G, mako monsters that are very powerful but unimaginative in terms of attacks. Mind you, they have an indecent amount of life.

M9-4-3: A New Beginning

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: the Genesis troops have passed into history. The same fate has befallen the forces of Wutai. Now nothing can stand in the way of us reaching the depths of the caves.
  • Drop: Thousand Thorns materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are five chests: one in the far northwest; another by the way; one more going southeast and the last two on the way to the objective. You will see them with a group of ostriches and a cactilium.

M9-4-4: Runaway Machines

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: Shinra's weapons are failing. It seems that there is something in the caves that has made them go crazy. Destroy our machines to prevent them from attacking our own men.
  • Drop: Luxury Watch x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will be able to find six chests. The first will be in your way; the next two going southwest and the rest on the way to the objective. You will face a spider robot that causes Death with its physical attacks.

M9-4-5: Only for Soldier

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: our machines have gone crazy and are causing huge losses. We are trying to evacuate our troops from the routes, but Soldier will have to take charge of the situation. He may also find monsters on your way; don't let them stop you.
  • Loot: Materia Killing Blade x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one and there are six chests. One will be in your way; two more will be going west at the first junction; one along the path and finally in the square room where the objective is, the fifth sticking to the right side of the central column and the sixth exiting through the northwest tunnel. The target is a pair of tomberi kings. Gravity++ doesn't work, so you'll need to use Daring Strike to remove the threat as soon as possible.

M9-4-6: Only for a 1st class

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: The monsters we've encountered are so powerful that Soldier's agents are having a really hard time containing the situation. Agents 2nd and 3rd class cannot advance further. We leave it in your hand.
  • Loot: Sniper Eye x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find 5 chests: the first one is on the way; the second to the northwest at the junction; another one in the far north and two more to the target. You have to defeat Grangalayaya, an enemy from which smaller versions are coming out, each time with less life and power. If you kill them fast, they can't reproduce.

M9-5: Unknown Power

There are 6 missions in the Unknown Energy block:

M9-5-1: Hojo's Monsters

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: Apparently, the monsters in the caves come from Hojo's laboratory, and they don't seem to know the difference between friend and foe. We may be breaking the chain of command, but you have authorization to respond to their attacks, should they occur.
  • Loot: Invincible x1.
This mission is activated by completing M9-4: Pandemonium. There are a total of six chests: four in your path; the fifth to the west at the last crossing and the sixth going to the objective, some turrets, and an Ifrit. Put on fire protection if you're having trouble.

M9-5-2: Lower

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: Your demonstration with the Hojo monsters has left us impressed. With these abilities, we are convinced that no enemy could get in your way. Don't give up and keep going.
  • Loot: PS Barrier Materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are seven chests: one next to you; another in the most southeastern ranch; the third in the northernmost tunnel; the fourth and fifth are if you move towards the objective from the southwest; the last two are just before the objective and to the west of it, in the same room. You must defeat two three-stars and two insatiable. Use Gravity++ or Daring Strike to make things easy or you'll get busted.

M9-5-3: Unusually strong monsters

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: If our information is correct, these monsters have unusual strength that could be caused by the environment of the caves. We are trying to analyze the monster data from the areas we have already explored, but it is not enough. Go deeper into the caves and gather more information.
  • Drop: Guard Ring x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one and there are six chests. Three by the way; the fourth and fifth going east at the first junction; the sixth towards the target. Your enemy will be a three-star and a tycoon, wanderer subtypes, and hippogriffs.

M9-5-4: An unusual power

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: We are almost certain that the monsters in the caves are being strengthened by an unknown energy source. The intensity of this energy seems to increase as we enter the caves. Go down even lower and help us find the source.
  • Loot: Secret Shop (a new shop is going to be available).
This mission is activated by completing the previous one and you will find nine chests in it: one right at the beginning; one going down the west tunnel; another two in the central tunnel; four in the southeast bypass (one will be in the part of the interchange cut to the southeast) and one more in the southern part of the east tunnel. The target is a group of imps and sahuagines. Imps cast Tri-Pyre, so put up a defense against fire if you want to take advantage of it to restore health.

M9-5-5: A lonely journey

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: only you remain in the caves. The other 1st Class Agents have given up, as the monsters are getting more ferocious. Go very carefully.
  • Loot: Hellfire materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find four chests: three going east at the junction, and one going north. The target is a group of imps and cerberi. They can all stun and cast Pyro magic.

M9-5-6: Still further down

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: We have confirmed the presence of guard dogs in the area you combed in the previous mission. It seems that they are out of their minds, and we are considering the possibility that it is due to external causes. Gather more information as we continue to analyze the data.
  • Drop : Megablaze materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one and you will find seven chests: you will see one on your way and two more to the west of the junction that leads to the objective. You'll find the rest of the chests by going south and southwest on the chest, there's nothing to the southeast. One of them contains the Indomitable, an evil beast that reduces the damage of all elemental attacks and raises +100 all attributes except SUE. The target is a group of mandrakes that stun and kill with their attacks, so keep your distance.

M9-6: Portals to the unknown

There are 6 quests in the Portals to the Unknown block:

M9-6-1: Tougher Monsters

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: the analysis of the data indicates that the monsters in these caves are much stronger than their counterparts outside. Even relatively docile specimens on the surface become much more aggressive in the caves. We know we can trust you, but try not to let your guard down.
  • Loot: Materia Righteous Saber x1.
This mission is activated by completing M9-5: Unknown Energy. You will find nine chests: two on your way; the third to the south at the first crossing; the fourth at the northeast end; three more on the way; the eighth to the south at the last crossing and the last one going to the marker. The target is a group of three cactilions. Use Gravity++ to quickly bring them down to health and then finish the job, but be careful as they usually drop 10,000 spikes on death.

M9-6-2: Deep inside

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: you have almost reached the depths of the caves. We will try to support you as much as possible. We are sure that the pay for this mission will be worth it. Good luck.
  • Loot: Super Bow x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You'll find seven chests: one north of the junction before the objective, with an Artema materia; then go to the west side of the intersection to find two more chests before the bridge; go north at the next junction to find two more. The last two are going southeast of the target, a tomberi deity. He is just like the king, but stronger.

M9-6-3: The guns have gone wild

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: The mysterious energy has been shown to be able to influence both monsters and machines. Mechanical weapons are inflicting heavy losses fueled by a seemingly inexhaustible source of energy. You are the only one qualified to solve this mystery.
  • Loot: Flames of Rebirth materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. You will find nine chests: two shortly after starting; one south of the west tunnel; another in the central tunnel; two in the north tunnel (one to the north, one to the south), and three in the south tunnel that runs from west to east. The target is a pair of ball robots. The Driller, as always, causes Sudden Death.

M9-6-4: Biomechanical threats

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: Although they are machines, the master sabers you faced in your previous mission have acquired biological behavior due to the unknown energy source. This energy seems to have properties beyond our imagination, and every day we are closer to getting hold of it thanks to you.
  • Drop: Exablaze Materia x1.
This mission is activated by completing the previous one. There are six chests in the quest: two going southwest at the first junction: in one are Genji's Gloves; another in the northeast corner; one to the south of the next intersection and one more if you go northwest; the penultimate one is north of the junction before the objective and the last one is on your way. You will encounter a Great Molbol: if Megafoetid Breath hits you, you will die with 99% certainty, and you will not be able to defend yourself. Look for his back and crush him with Gravity ++ attacks.

M9-6-5: Energy Lifeform

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
  • Objective: Analysis of the mysterious energy indicates that not only does it cause machines to behave like living organisms, but any life form that succumbs to it adopts independent behavior. It seems some of our men have disappeared into the lower levels. Stay alert and move forward without hesitating.

M9-6-6: The reigning deity

  • Difficulty: 10/10.
