Sons of the Forest, where to find the Rope and the Rope Rifle

In Sons of the Forest, if you want to go anywhere, you'll have to dive into one of the many caves scattered around the island. This is where you will find Sons of the Forest key items such as the shovel. However, going up and down isn't a super easy matter unless you have a rope – and, of course, you'll also need a rope rifle to reuse it to go up after you've come down, right?

Well, we'll show you where to find the Rope in Sons of the Forest, and where the Rope Rifle is, in the quick guide below.

WHERE TO FIND THE ROPE IN SONS OF THE FOREST

The first thing you need to know about rope is that there are two types in the game. The base string is marked with a spiral symbol, while another string has an 8 icon, so it's easy to confuse them. Unfortunately, rope isn't a craftable item, so you'll have to find some in the world – luckily, it's not too hard to do.

You'll want to follow the clues left by humans who have been to the island before you. Things like abandoned encampments, the crash site, or even ledges that someone might have used to climb. You might even find ropes at the entrance to the caves, if you're lucky, and if other people have tried to explore them before you.

WHERE TO FIND THE ROPE RIFLE

The Rope Rifle is a great tool because it essentially works like a grappling hook and will allow you to scale vertical surfaces off the ground. You can find it by going to the cave we've circled on the map up here. It's not essential that you have other key items with you to retrieve it, but you will need some type of explosive. A grenade is probably the easiest thing to use as you'll need to clear some debris and there's something more…alive waiting for you as well. Make your way through the cave to the end and you will be rewarded with the Rope Rifle, which you can use to get other key items later in Sons of the Forest.
