4-2-2-2 – Balanced formation with a narrow offense

4-2-2-2 – Balanced formation with a narrow offense

This is what the formation is all about:  The 4-2-2-2 is a very balanced formation, which is currently finding many supporters in FC 24. It offers a stable back four and provides a strong and compact attack with the two attacking midfielders and the double leadership.

Use these tactics and instructions:  BeneCR7x from VfL Wolfsburg (via  YouTube ) relies on these settings:

  • defensive
    • Balanced
    • 40 width
    • 55 depth

  • offensive
  • Balanced
  • Direct passes
  • 63 width
  • Players in penalty area: 5
  • Corners: 1
  • Free kick: 2

Also changes the following instructions (all others remain default)

  • RV and LV: Stay at the back during attacks, running style: across the board
  • Both ZOM: For crosses into the penalty area
  • Both ZDM: Stay at the back during attacks, cover the middle - In case of defensive problems: block passing lanes
  • Both ST: Strengthen defense, overrun defense

4-2-3-1 – Success with stable defense and offense

4-2-3-1 – Success with stable defense and offense

This is what the formation is all about:  The 4-2-3-1 is a somewhat more defensive formation whose specialty is to counterattack the opponent. Here you only play with one striker, which is supported by 3 attacking midfielders.

The best approach with this formation is to manage the game and switch to offense at the right moment with pace.

Use these tactics and instructions:  STYLO from Focus Clan (via  YouTube ) is currently using the 4-2-3-1 and the following settings:

  • defensive
    • Balanced
    • 45 width
    • 69 depth

  • offensive
    • Balanced
    • Direct passes
    • 50 width
    • Players in penalty area: 7
    • Corners: 1
    • Free kick: 2

Also changes the following instructions (all others remain default)

  • RV and LV: Stay at the back during attacks, running style across the board
  • Middle ZOM: All freedoms
  • Both IV: Stay behind during attacks,
  • Outside ZOMs: For crosses into the penalty area, pull outwards
  • Both ZDM: Stay at the back during attacks, cover the middle
  • Goalkeeper: Cross catcher

4-2-4 – Use the crowbar to make up a deficit

4-2-4 – Use the crowbar to make up a deficit

This is what the formation is all about: If you fall behind and don't have much time left on the clock, then STYLO recommends this formation. With it you throw everything forward, neglect your defense and try everything to catch up.

Use these tactics and instructions:  The professional from FOKUS relies on the settings for a catch-up race:

  • defensive
    • Constant pressure
    • 50 width
    • 90 depth

  • offensive
    • Quick setup
    • Direct passes
    • 50 width
    • Players in penalty area: 9
    • Corners: 4
    • Free kick: 5

Also changes the following instructions (all others remain default)

  • Winger: Stay in front for crosses into the penalty area
  • Striker 1: Orient centrally, overrun the defense, stay in front
  • Striker 2: Orient centrally, pass station, stay in front
  • Both ZM: Cover the middle, energetic interception
  • RV and LV: With attack, energetic interception, vice versa
  • Goalkeeper: libero, cross catcher
Of course, there are plenty of other formations that could be worthwhile - depending on your play style.
