Baldur's Gate 3: How to change class and reset your character?

In a game with as much depth and options when creating your character as in Baldur's Gate 3, it is normal that you want to experiment with everything at your disposal. Although at the beginning you will have to make certain choices to define your protagonist, the game does not force you to maintain the same class and attributes for the rest of the adventure. That is, although the race cannot be changed later, you can restart your character's class and change its set of skills, spells, and characteristics.

We assume that you have come to this entry in our guide because you are looking to know how to change your character's class. If so, keep reading, we will tell you what requirements you must meet to do so and how you can do it easily.

What does it take to change classes?

In order to change your class in Baldur's Gate 3 you first need to meet with an NPC who has the quality to carry out this reset in the game. We are talking about Mustio, a ghoul "companion" who can be found on the Scorched Beach after completing the story prologue, and recruiting him is part of the quest "Explore the Ruins".

  • Mustio is inside the Huge Ruins, in the starry nautiloid region.
  • You will find the character in a cold and damp crypt, inside a sarcophagus.
  • After talking to him for the first time, Mustio will remain in your camp forever.

Completing the "Explore the Ruins" quest is a prerequisite for Mustio to join your team and use his services, so make sure you know him first before continuing.

How to change class and restart your character

Once you have recruited Mustio to your camp in Baldur's Gate 3, this NPC can change your character class for a small fee of 100 gold coins. You just have to visit the camp and go to talk to him; then select the dialogue that says "Can you help me change classes?"

In this regard you should know the following details:

  • Mustio always charges you 100 gold coins every time you want to change a character's class.
  • Paying Mustio resets your character to level 1.
  • The characteristics and their levels will change with the class you choose to match their bonuses.

It is worth mentioning that all the experience you have gained so far is not lost when changing class, but is maintained and, once the change is made, you will be able to raise all the levels of your character again with the stored EXP to reorganize your spells, tricks, feats or even change your subclass.

It's also important to note that class change is available to all characters in your party, not just your protagonist. That is, the companions you have recruited, such as Astarion, Gale, Wyll, and others can also change their classes if you select them at the camp and go to talk to Mustio to do so (although keep in mind that their backstories and plots do not vary by changing to another class).

In short, the class change with Mustio is something phenomenal to be able to experience other play styles on your characters without having to start a game from scratch. Do not hesitate to use this function as you see fit and adapt your team according to your needs to get the most out of them.
