The PC version of the next installment of the strategy saga will dispense with the app, although there is still one thing that will be a drawback for many.
We already know the release window for Sid Meier's Civilization VII , the new installment of the strategy series that will be produced by Firaxis Games . We have little doubt that it will sneak into our 2025 edition of the best strategy games . But what we do know for sure is that it will not use the 2K launcher on the PC version , although it will still have a small drawback .
The use of the launcher will also be removed from Civilization VI if you have purchased it through the Epic Games Store. In the case of Steam, this requirement has already been completely removed, allowing you to launch the game without that intermediate step. But as we said above, there is still a detail that the Steam page mentions and can be annoying and that is that you will have to create a 2K account to play .
Sid Meier's Civilization VII won't require 2K's launcher, but one drawback remains
Something that tends to annoy PC gamers quite a bit, and which we've already seen in Sony's multiplayer-based PC releases, is the fact that you have to create an additional account to be able to enjoy the games of a certain platform in their ports . This is precisely the drawback of Civilization VI and VII: you will still need a 2K account to log in, or at least that's what the product description on Steam says .
Obviously, we all get annoyed by having to create additional accounts to play a game. It's becoming more and more common to encounter this issue when it comes to games with multiplayer features, and although the process doesn't take more than a couple of minutes, it's normal for users to not like having so many accounts scattered around the network that they don't really use anymore.
We remind you that Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be available on PC, Xbox One, Series S|X, PS4 and PS5 initially during the first quarter of 2025. Later it will also arrive on Nintendo Switch , although there is no official availability window.
