Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered Review. (Is this the same game?)

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered will not be released until tomorrow, but the game has already managed to collect a lot of skeptical and even angry reviews. It's all about the gameplay videos, where the difference between the original and the remaster is no more than between Leningrad and St. Petersburg. I've spent enough time in the fictional Seacrest County to sadly state that EA is trying to sell the same game twice again.

Good like 2010

If you ask any experienced gamer what part of NFS he loves the most, then after Underground andMost Wanted third place will probably takeHot Pursuit (2010) . The game, even if it was itself a remake of the 1998 project, gave a very vivid experience, it was praised for many advantages, each of which was transferred by the developers to the remaster.

Hot Pursuit, in fact, has no plot, and every moment is filled with concentrated drive. We are not distracted by the emotional experiences of the characters and are not puzzled by the betrayal that fills the hero's eyes with blood. No, Seacrest County is a huge territory with crazy races at almost every turn. Just compete and have fun, nothing more.

Outrun rivals and the police, the game offers a truly impressive fleet of vehicles behind the wheel. The list of recognizable cars is huge, and each of them is beautiful, fast, and eagerly anticipating its entrance to the track. Bugatti Veyron, Alfa Romeo 8C, Audi R8, Porsche Panamera, Lamborghini Diablo - any sports car is ready to show its power on the fly. At the same time, in order to open and pump a new car, you do not need to grind uncontrollably. Enjoy the challenge, win the races, and the garage will expand on its own. The last games of the series, which sought to stretch the time of passage in any way, managed to wean us from such simplicity and convenience.

A police squad interferes with arrivals, and the confrontation with him is really tense. Computer cops drive no worse than the most ferocious rival, but the main thing is that the player himself can try on the police uniform. Each side has its own perks: throwing spikes at the feet of those who are catching up, turning off the electronics for a short time, setting up screens from cars, calling for air support - all this deepens the gameplay, adds an element of tactics to the arcade. There is nothing more pleasant than knocking your opponent out of the car and watching him fly off the track at a sharp turn.

The excellent musical accompaniment also works for the atmosphere of unbridled fun: one of the best in the series, although mastodons like Underground, it is probably impossible to surpass it at all. Winning to 30 Seconds to Mars guitars and energetic electronics is twice as pleasant.

In general, the game is still good - and this "still" is its main problem. To find out everything about Hot Pursuit Remastered, you just need to open the 2010 reviews, because there is absolutely nothing new here, even the visual part has been improved only a little. Of the changes, only the price and system requirements have risen to the level of new AAA projects.

Shut up and give me money

Why release remasters at all? Of course, in order to bring the graphics up to modern requirements, correct mistakes, maybe fill them with new content.

The original looks decent even ten years later, and its remaster looks the same, though this is far from a compliment. The picture has become brighter, the lighting looks more realistic, anti-aliasing and actual screen resolutions have been added, the system of reflections from surfaces has become a little more pleasant and ... that's all. In fact, we are officially sold those little things that most craftsmen simply rolled with mods. This should be added to the game with free patches, but certainly not sold at the price of a full game.

The changes are so minor that you need to look closely at the picture to find them. Try it on the screenshot just above. It's not easy to notice that the remaster is on the left. At the same time, at some points, the drawing of the vegetation, according to the sensations, even became worse, and the backdrops became more blurred.

Having played the remaster, I want to say: you better buy the original, because on Steam you can easily grab it for only 50-70 rubles! More precisely, it was possible until recently. EA prudently removed Hot Pursuit (2010) from the library. From now on, only a remaster is available for purchase for 2,000 rubles on a PC, and about 3,000 on consoles. Well, thank you!

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered comparison 2

In general, there are only two reasons that somehow can justify the existence of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. First, the game can be played on current generation consoles. Secondly, the remaster includes all the DLCs that were previously available only on consoles, and now they are ready to please PC gamers.

If EA had left the old game available for purchase, reduced the price for the PC, presented the updated version to the owners of the original, then no one would have thought to scold them. However, it seems that top management is carried away by the book How to Lose Friends and Make Everyone Hate You. Well EA, you're doing great.

Conclusion

It's hard to recommend Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered to anyone. Of course, the owner of a modern console who craves an old-school drive, or a fan of the original game, dreaming of a DLC bundle and a resurgent online, might consider buying. I just don't want players to support EA's policies.

Modern publishers are trying to meet the user, compensate for the inconvenience, and encourage loyal fans with free remasters. But not Electronic Arts, which is used to selling the same game year after year. Perhaps this release is a suitable excuse to show with a dollar how we, players, feel about this?
