Quite a lot of time in Valheim can go to move from one place to another. Exploring locations can seem tedious and you will want to quickly move home. Even if you are cruising down the river on a raft, getting home can be long and difficult. There is a quick way to move, but for this you have to find certain items and build a portal.
You can start creating portals after you learn how to make bronze tools. You can make them after completing the quest to make your first pickaxe, defeat the first boss, Eiktur , and get some ore. You can only build a portal next to a workbench .
List of components required for making a portal:
- 20 quality wood (Fine Wood);
- 10 Greydwarf eyes
- 2 Surtling Cores;
- Workbench.
The eyes of a greydwarf are the easiest to find - they fall out of the greydwarves that you regularly encounter when traveling through the black forest. The Black Forest is also where copper and tin can be found. By collecting these resources, you can make a bronze ax and chop down beech trees. After you get quality wood by cutting down birch or beech, you will also receive a portal recipe.
Next, you need to get two Surtling Cores. They are dropped by Surtlings, which can be found in the Swamp biome. Once you have all these resources, you can place the portal in a convenient location, close to the layout, and then use it to move to a specific location, which will greatly simplify the journey.
Portals can be linked using the same label. This means that when creating, you must enter the same word in all portals. Approach the portal and interact with it by pressing the E key to enter the label.
Some objects in the game do not allow the player to teleport, they can be recognized by a small blue portal, crossed out with a red cross in their image. The list of such items is Tin ore, Tin, Copper ore, Copper, Bronze, and Black Metal Scrap.
