Optimize Android by increasing the size of the registry buffer

What is the Android log size?

Mobile phones are used more and more in daily daily tasks, we see more and more videos downloaded from apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp , we consume more streaming broadcasts either to watch live television or watch series or movies in any of the With video on demand apps , you can have a state-of-the-art phone, but if this is not your case, you may notice that your phone does not work as it did on the first day and is somewhat slower.  You can make the menus work faster with this guide , we are also going to teach you how to optimize Android by increasing the size of the registry buffer .

If you don't need to be up-to-date and your mobile has some time, you can optimize your Android system by modifying the size of the registry buffer , this is an option found in the Developer Options menu of the Android system, but don't worry if You do not see this menu, it is hidden and we need to make it visible , we will also tell you how to do this later.

The buffer is a storage space that temporarily holds data to ensure that the device that sends it and the device that receives it does not run out of data during a transfer. This data is typically sent from an input device , such as a mouse, microphone, or touch panel, to an output device , such as speakers or the screen that will display the information.

The size of the record buffer allows storing the record data of the different audio input elements that the phone has so that the sound card can process them, this size interferes with the time that the sounds collected by the device will use to be processed , if we record a sound with our mobile, either in an audio note or in a video, the mobile will need some time to receive this sound and for it to be processed.

But because having a larger buffer size does not mean that everything will work better, this must be a set of balanced characteristics that will depend on each device , we are going to show you how to modify these values with which you can try to improve your phone Android.

How to modify the size of the registry memory in Android

For this first, if we do not have it already enabled, it will be to make visible the Developer Options menu that Android has hidden by default, where we can find this and many other options that it is better not to touch if we do not know what we are doing.

Enable the Developer Options menu

  1. We go to the Settings menu of our phone and click to open
  2. We slide to the last option, About the phone and click on it to open it.
  3. Now click on Software information to enter that option.
  4. Press 5 or 6 times on Compilation number, it will ask us for the phone's security code and we will have activated the Developer Options menu.
  5. We can now return to the main screen of our phone.

If you want to remove this menu from the settings, you only have to enter it and deactivate the Enabled box above and it will disappear again. You can activate and deactivate it as many times as you want.

Modify the size of the log memory

Now let's move on to modify the size of the registry memory in the menu that we have just made visible, you just have to follow these steps.

  1. We go back into Settings and click to open this option.
  2. We slide as before until the last option that we see that Developer Options has appeared , click on it to enter.
  3. Now we slide until we find the option Buffer sizes to record and click on it to see the different options.
  4. It offers us 6 options that are:
  • disabled
  • 64K
  • 256K (this is the default)
  • 1 M
  • 4 M
  • 16
5. Now we select the value we want to use and close.

There is no fixed value for this option since each device has different characteristics, the ideal is to try the next value to the one we have selected and do tests with streaming video, Instagram or playing some of the best free games for Android We leave you here , if this value gives you problems, you can select another and try.

Advantages and disadvantages of increasing the registry memory size

But increasing the memory size does not always have advantages , it can also cause problems when using our device.

Advantages

By having a larger register size, we get the CPU to be more freed by having less load , with this we will make the CPU available for other tasks , for example, to move between system menus. If we have an Android device that is a little slower than normal, we can optimize it with our guide and we can improve it with this option.

Disadvantages

Although not always having a larger record buffer size is a good option, with a larger size the CPU load would be lower, but  we can suffer higher latency between audio and video in streaming videos or applications. If this is your case, lower the size of the log buffer again.

As we mentioned at the beginning, this is an option that will come in handy for lighter devices or those that have become somewhat outdated, since if you have one of the most current phones with a good processor you can lower the cache size and reduce these latencies at the cost of higher CPU consumption, although the change is likely to be significant and you do not need to modify this option.
