Valheim - construction guide

 If you still don't know how to build your first home in Valheim, then this guide will be extremely helpful.

Valheim - construction guide

Valheim is a survival and craft game in which the user takes on the role of a viking. The game has many interesting mechanics, including building houses. In this guide, we will tell you about the basic principles of building in the game, explaining how to build and equip your own home.

How to build a house

You appear in the game with only one item - a torch . To build a house, first of all, you need to collect as many simple resources as possible - stone and wood .

  • Stone is one of the most common resources after wood. It can be found right on the ground, especially in open glades;
  • Wood drops from any fallen trees, broken bushes, or simply as branches on the ground.

Craft a stone ax

Once you pick up a few pieces of stone and wood, a blueprint for a stone ax will be added to your inventory. To create it, you need to collect 5 units of wood and 4 stones. Open the character menu ( TAB ), in the " Crafting " tab, select " Stone Ax " and press " Create ".

It should be remembered that every item has a quality. The more often you use an ax, the faster it will become unusable. With the ax, you can cut down beech trees and hunt animals.

Be extremely careful when cutting trees! The barrel can collapse on your character and kill him.

Craft a hammer

The hammer blueprint will be added to your inventory as soon as you build the first stone ax. This tool is the foundation of all construction in the game. Without a hammer, you cannot build a house, a bed, a chest and repair any part of your home. You can create it in the " Craft " section of your character's menu. This will require 3 units of wood and 2 stones.

Create a workbench

If you want to build your own home, then first you need to create a workbench and place it in the center of the area where your house will be located. The fact is that you can only build in the area of the workbench. To build it, you need to build a hammer and get 10 wood. The workbench blueprint is in the hammer building menu.

We start construction

You can build a house from scratch, but it will take quite a long time. By and large, the house is needed only for sleeping and placing a workbench. By the way, the workbench cannot be used outdoors. You can explore the surroundings and find ready-made, albeit not entirely complete buildings. Typically, these buildings lack the main parts: walls, floor or roof. Rebuilding an existing building is much easier than creating a new one.

For example, we found a small building without a roof that easily accommodated a workbench, bed, and some chests. All that was needed was to build a thatched roof, patch holes in the walls, put up a door and fix the walls themselves. This hut is enough to be used as a camp.

But if you want to build a big beautiful house, then you have to try a little. Pick up the hammer and press RMB to open the build menu. In the menu that opens, click on the appropriate tab and select "Wooden wall". Arrange the walls as you want your home to be. It should be understood that you are not limited in imagination, so each user can get a unique structure.

When the walls are in place, it's time to start building the roof. First, you need to build a "grid" of bars. In the hammer construction menu, select "Wooden beam 2 meters" and place them in a convenient way for you from wall to wall. Then use the "wood block" at a 45 degree angle to create a "mesh" for the thatched roof. You should get something like the one shown in the screenshot below.

Valheim - construction guide

More than half of the house has been completed, all that remains is to install a thatched roof at an angle of 45 degrees. It is worth noting that our structure is quite large. If your hut is going to be smaller, you can use a 26-degree roof.

Having finished with the roof, we proceed to the construction of the floor in the house. We warn you right away that one block in the house must be left without a floor (it must be earthen). This will allow you to place a fire on it. Without a fire, you will not be able to sleep in a bed (when interacting, it will be written that the bed should be installed next to the fire). Select a block in any corner of the building convenient for you and place a fire here.

How to equip your home

When the hut is built, it will be time to equip your home. To comfortably exist in Valheim, you will need to craft and place the following items in your house:

  • Bonfire;
  • Cooking rack;
  • Bed;
  • Workbench;
  • Chest.

As we have already noted, it is better to put a fire directly in the house. Yes, this will make the hut a little smoky, but it won't affect your character's health in any way. You can also cook in-house by placing a cooking rack above the fire . Open the hammer menu and in the "Crafting" section build a rack. You can use it to fry raw meat or amphibian tails. To create such a rack, you only need 2 units of wood.

The bed is an integral part of the home. When you first construct this decor element, you can assign a control point. Now, after each death, you will be reborn not in the forest, among the runestones, but in your house on the bed.

If you managed to build a house, then most likely you already have a workbench. You can remove the previous one and put the new one in a place convenient for you. Remember to fix all the items in the house as their quality deteriorates over time.

As for the chests, there are countless places to place them in the house. In addition, if you followed our advice and made a "grid" of beams under the roof, then you can build a kind of attic and place enough chests here.

In general, then you can give freedom of imagination, build extensions to your hut or build other houses. Do not forget to fence your home with a picket fence or at least a wooden fence. This will help defend against hostile creatures such as skeletons.

How to build a big beautiful house

This section is dedicated to all construction lovers in video games. Yes, the house we built together earlier would be great as a camp, but we can offer you something different. How do you like the idea of building a large, beautiful, albeit one-story house? If you are ready to spend about an hour of real time to create it, as we are, then we dare not delay you.

First, you need to find a suitable clearing where there will be no hills. We understand that this is not easy, but still worth trying. In any case, if you have found the best location, start from the highest point.

We put up the walls

Our home will be large and spacious. In total, it will occupy 196 square meters. You need to build a kind of foundation of 7 by 7 blocks from wooden walls.

If you've installed the first row of wooden walls, then it's time to tackle the main part of the house. The fact is that now you have built a kind of foundation or "basement" of the house. Place four more rows of halves of wooden walls above the constructed walls.

Staircase and entrance

Now you can start building the stairs, main entrance and floor. It should be understood that the floor will be located between the main walls and the half walls. Therefore, it is better to build the stairs from top to bottom. To give it an aesthetic look, use 26-degree wooden wall corners on the sides of the staircase.

When the ladder is ready, build the floor. Immediately after that, you can put the cross over the entrance and set the ridge of the thatched roof at 45 degrees.

Staircase and entrance

Upper part of the house

Place vertical wooden posts (1 meter) over the halves of the walls, and place horizontal posts (2 meters) on them. Now you can cover the bottom of the house with a thatched roof at 26 degrees. Lift the middle of the building in the same way. In this case, you will have to use a thatched roof at 45 degrees.

The top-most part of the house is slightly more difficult to install. First, it is difficult to get to it. To do this, you will need to install additional stairs outside the building. Secondly, the upper crosses often break on their own. To secure them, you will first need to build a thatched roof at 45 degrees on both sides, and on top place a thatched roof ridge at 45 degrees. Only then can the crosspieces be installed on the elevation of the building.

Thus, we have a large beautiful house with a basement. The basement can be entered directly inside the house, or by placing a door between one of the walls at the back of the house.
