Forza Horizon 4

Tuning in Forza Horizon 4 is an essential part of the game that you'll have to figure out if you want to get the most out of your vehicles. This guide will help you understand the basics of tuning.

A car is like a suit: it's a great piece, but it only becomes beautiful when it suits your style. This is why tuning is a great and rewarding activity in Forza Horizon 4. Tailoring your vehicle to your driving style will improve your races. Our beginner's guide will show you the most important sections for customizing your vehicle.

Tires

First of all, the choice of the type of tire depends on what you want to use your car for: the type of race, weather conditions, road surface and many other options. In most cases, racing tires are a great choice.

Tires

Optimal tire tuning is critical for good grip when cornering and accelerating from the start line. Lower tire pressure allows tires to warm up faster and can affect overall vehicle responsiveness and handling.

Increasing pressure can lead to a slight increase in top speed and improved responsiveness, but the tires are more likely to suddenly lose traction. Be sure to experiment with your tire pressures to find a good compromise.

Make sure you check the tire setting when changing race conditions in the game to control the temperature as it also depends on the weather and outside temperature.

Transmission

Correct gear settings will help you get the perfect start and top speed for your vehicle. A good setup to start with is the final drive setup. Change it so that all six gears are shown in the figure in the lower right corner. Your sixth transmission line should end in the upper right corner of the red line.

You should check if you want certain transmissions to have a higher or lower range. Adjusting the gear is a lengthy process that requires a lot of testing and depends a lot on the car you are using, your driving style and the type of competition you want to participate in.

Transmission

The transmission setting can be unlocked after the Race or Sport transmission upgrade is installed on the vehicle. Tuning a vehicle's gear is a simple and effective way to achieve a compromise between top speed and vehicle acceleration. A higher final drive will give your car impressive levels of acceleration, but this can lead to a drop in top speed.

A lower final drive will increase the vehicle's top speed, but may result in slow acceleration. If you want to improve your drivetrain, adjusting each gear ratio is the best way to get the best performance out of your car. It is important to strike a balance between high top speed and fast acceleration.

Camber-convergence

Camber and toe affect the position of your tires. The steering angle decides whether the top of your tires points towards or away from the car. Toe is the same for the front of your tires.

Camber needs to be adjusted using a tire inspection tool on the road. When cornering, your camber should be near zero degrees and negative on a straight line. For example, if you notice that your tires have negative camber when cornering, return to the setup window and equalize the difference by adding positive camber. The convergence effect in Forza Horizon 4 is mostly negligible, but advanced tuners can use it to slightly reduce over and under maneuverability.

Camber-convergence

Like tire pressure, the camber setting affects traction when driving in a straight line or when cornering. Negative camber reduces understeer and increases traction when cornering, but can make the car less stable on a straight line. Positive camber reduces oversteer but also makes the vehicle unstable.

It is best to start with a small amount of positive and negative camber so that the tires are aligned equally, and then fine-tune to achieve the optimal tuning.

Toe changes often result in the car becoming more responsive when entering a corner. Toe in increases the overall stability of the vehicle, but may reduce cornering responsiveness. Outward toe increases responsiveness when cornering, but leads to vehicle instability. It is best to avoid maximum in and out toe values to keep tire wear at an acceptable level.

Forza Horizon 4

Adjusting the castor angle increases straight-line stability - the perfect way to get a high-speed supercar. The high steering angle reduces negative camber, which improves acceleration and braking of the vehicle. A low angle means you may want to increase negative camber to get an acceptable level of traction, otherwise the car will be very unstable.

Transverse stabilizers

Anti-roll bars provide additional cornering stability and reduce body roll when cornering. Finding a good balance is important because a poorly tuned anti-roll bar can have a big impact on your car's handling. While every car has a different behavior that requires different adjustments, there are a few rules of thumb that apply to almost every car.

Transverse stabilizers

Increasing the stiffness of the rear anti-roll bar will increase the excess maneuverability. However, if the rear anti-roll bar is too stiff, it can cause the wheels to lift off the ground when cornering, which can lead to a rather spectacular crash. A softer rear anti-roll bar reduces excess maneuverability, making it easier to handle when cornering.

Therefore, we advise you to set the front stiffness about 10 percent lower than the rear. Do not mount the anti-roll bars too high, otherwise the machine may be lifted off the ground in some corners.

Springs

Making sure you set the springs correctly is one of the most important tasks. Springs control weight distribution during braking, acceleration and cornering.

Springs

Stiff front springs carry more mass, but if the springs are too stiff, the tires can lose traction under heavy loads. Soft front springs increase traction and reduce lack of maneuverability. Making the springs too stiff can cause the vehicle to sink to the bottom during heavy braking.

It is generally desirable for the rear to be slightly stiffer than the front to reduce excess maneuverability. £ 800 for the front and 900 for the rear are usually good settings to start with. From them, you can already adjust the indicators for yourself.

Clearance

The ride height adjustment not only makes your car look pretty cool, but it also improves handling. Low ground clearance lowers the center of gravity and significantly improves handling. However, if you lower the car too much, it can lower the car and lose control.

Clearance

In Forza Horizon 4, you can set the ride height to near minimum for street racing, improving cornering stability. If you feel that your car is sinking too much to the bottom when cornering, then raise it step by step. SUVs usually like to tune the other way around and try to ride at near maximum height.

Aerodynamics

The increase in downforce allows the car to better contact the road, heats up the tires faster and improves handling. However, too much downforce creates excessive drag, which reduces top speed.

Aerodynamics

But in Forza Horizon 4, this speed loss is mostly negligible, so focusing on corners is generally a good choice. If you feel a sudden loss of traction, adjust the front slightly lower than the rear and try again.

Brake

As you upgrade your vehicle, adjusting the brake balance is integral to improving brake performance. Correct brake settings are key to tuning your vehicle to suit your driving style. Changing the balance to the rear of the vehicle increases rear axle drift but reduces stability.

Moving the balance to the front of the vehicle increases front axle drift and increases stability. However, this can also lead to poor balance between the front and rear axles when braking.

Brake

Don't add too much, or your tires will block in all braking zones. For street racing, a reading of 100 to 115 percent is a good start while keeping the brake balance in the center. It is important to find a compromise with the brakes, otherwise your stopping distance may increase, which will slow you down during the race.

If you enjoy off-road driving, it is helpful to shift the brake balance forward, somewhere between 55 and 60 percent. Also, in this case, reduce the pressure to about 85 percent.

Differential

Differential adjustment significantly affects over and under maneuverability, as well as the ability of your vehicle to accelerate. The differential adjusts the difference in wheel slip between the left and right wheels. The more you lock the differential, the more your tires are forced to rotate at the same speed. If you set it to less than 100 percent, then you transfer more power to the wheel to get more traction, depending on how much the differential is unlocked. For the front and rear tires, you can select the degree of tire locking during acceleration and braking.

A larger acceleration lock will allow you to get more power out of a corner. However, this also means that you will have to face more lack of maneuverability. The rear differential is generally not as important as the front one. Fully or nearly fully unlocked rear wheels are a good way to improve traction.

Differential

The balance setting allows you to choose how much power you want to transfer to the front or rear axle. This allows you to decide if you want your car to move as FWD or RWD. In most cases, it is best to direct more power backward by setting the governor somewhere between 70 and 90 percent. Too much rear thrust can result in loss of traction and excessive maneuverability.

Output

There is no one-size-fits-all guide to setting up the ideal car, and each driver will have different preferences. Therefore, do not take all the information in this guide as the only correct decision. Use these tips as basic settings. Then test and customize the car for yourself. Only a customization tailored to your playstyle can help you get the most out of your vehicle.
