Friday Night Funkin 'is a free rhythm game developed by a four-person team led by Canadian programmer Cameron Taylor. The gameplay is reminiscent of other music games such as Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper. The style of the project is similar to the classic flash games that were very popular in the 2000s. One of the most famous platforms for free play in the browser today is Newgrounds.
Friday Night Funkin's protagonist, known as "Boyfriend," has to beat multiple characters in a song and rap competition. Boyfriend's goal is to be able to date his girlfriend, whose father is against their union. "Girlfriend" (girlfriend) does not participate in song battles, but is always present on the screen.
The game has a weekly format, thanks to which new songs are added every game week. Players have the opportunity to choose one of three difficulty levels: easy, medium or hard. As the level of difficulty increases, the speed of the arrows appearing on the screen increases, and their sequence becomes more and more complex.
The player does not have to follow the weekly structure, so they have the option to play in "free mode", which allows the player to ignore the videos and just play individual songs of their choice.

Boyfriend and Girlfriend visit a restricted war zone where they meet up with John Captain, also known as the Tankman.
After meeting with the leader of a group of aggressive tankers, the main villain of the seventh week challenges Boyfriend. They fight in a new musical competition, but in the middle of the battle, the Tankman cannot withstand the pressure of the protagonist and orders his subordinates to shoot Girlfriend. Pico comes to the aid of the couple. He fights off numerous military forces, which allows Boyfriend to continue the musical battle.
In addition to expanding the main campaign, the new Friday Night Funkin 'update brings other changes:

The team wants to add 20 new weeks, a multiplayer feature, the ability to customize the protagonist, and official support for custom modifications.
