We've finally waited for the continuation of Ethan Winters' story in Resident Evil Village . The graphics are even better than in the 7th part and even ray tracing appeared. To complete the experience, a sufficiently powerful PC is required, but it is quite possible to play on a relatively weak one. And from which even the owners of flagship video cards and processors were not insured - various technical problems at the start. In this article, we have collected proven solutions to similar problems.


What kind of computer do you need for Resident Evil Village (system requirements)?

We studied the tests of the game on different hardware in different resolutions and came to the conclusion that the official system requirements are very close to the truth . True, they lack recommendations for playing at 1440p and 4K - we added them based on the tests we studied.

Official minimum system requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit only!).
  • [* ] Processor: Intel Core i5-7500 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 560.
  • RAM: 8 gigabytes.

Official Recommended System Requirements (1080p @ 60 FPS):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX 570.
  • RAM: 16 gigabytes.


To play at 1440p @ 30 FPS (according to tests):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7400 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) / AMD Radeon RX 470 (8 GB).
  • RAM: 16 gigabytes.

To play at 1440p @ 60 FPS (according to tests):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-8100 / AMD Ryzen 3 2200G.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT.
  • RAM: 16 gigabytes.

For 4K @ 30 FPS (benchmarked):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500X.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT.
  • [* ] RAM: 32 gigabytes.

For 4K @ 60 FPS (benchmarked):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti / RX 6700 XT.
  • RAM: 32 gigabytes.


Resident Evil Village won't launch on Windows 7

The game is not designed to run on Microsoft operating systems older than Windows 10. In addition, a 64-bit version of the OS is required.

Install the K-Lite Codec Pack. This is a collection of all the required codecs to run most video files.

Your PC is out of RAM. The best solution is to increase the amount of RAM to at least 8 gigabytes. Increasing the paging file probably won't help. Also, be sure to close your browser before launching any game. Especially if it has a large number of open tabs.

Visit the video card manufacturer's website:

  • NVIDIA GeForce. The site itself will select the appropriate drivers. Just hit Search and then Download Now . After the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions of the installer.
  • AMD Radeon. Scroll down to Search for your product and select your graphics card in the Graphics section. Click the "Submit" button. Important: Be sure to restart your computer after updating your drivers.


Enable high performance for your graphics card

For NVIDIA GeForce owners:

  1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel by right- clicking on the desktop.
  2. Select Manage 3D Settings from the list on the left.
  3. Switch to the Software Preferences tab in the main part of the screen and select Resident Evil Village from the drop-down list under 1. Select a program to configure ” (if the game is not in the list, then add the corresponding button next to it).
  4. In the list below, find the Power Management Mode function and switch it to Maximum Performance Mode Preferred .

For AMD Radeon and AMD processor owners:


  1. Open Radeon Settings by right- clicking on the desktop.
  2. Go to the "System" section .
  3. In the "Switchable Graphics" category , set the "Maximum Performance" graphics card as the main one.
  4. Click “Accept” .

Ray tracing not working in Resident Evil Village

Install Windows 10 x64 and update your operating system to the latest version. Ray tracing will not work on Windows 7. You will also need a video card from the GeForce RTX series.

How to tweak graphics in Resident Evil Village / how to increase the frame rate

Optimal settings for a weak PC , close to the minimum system requirements:

  • Screen mode: full screen.
  • Frame rate: 30.
  • Vertical sync: disable.
  • Rendering mode: interlaced.
  • Image quality: 1.
  • Anti-aliasing: FXAA + TAA.
  • FidelityFX CAS: enable.
  • Texture quality: average 0.5 GB.
  • Texture filtering quality: ANISO 16x.
  • Mesh quality: low.
  • Diffuse Shading: SSAO.
  • Screen Space Reflections: Disable.
  • Volumetric Lighting Quality: Medium.
  • Subsurface scattering: enable.
  • Shadow Quality: Medium.
  • Contact Shadows: Disable.

  • Glow: turn on.
  • Glare: turn on.
  • Granularity: to your taste.
  • Depth of Field: Enable.
  • Lens distortion: to your taste.

Resident Evil Village audio issues / audio clicks / audio wheezing

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel .
  2. Go to the Hardware and Sound section .
  3. Open the sound settings.
  4. Select the default device (there should be a green checkmark next to it) and go to its properties with the button below.
  5. In the "Advanced" tab select the default format "24 bit, 48000 Hz" .
  6. If it doesn't help, then lower it to "16 bit, 44100 Hz".

Resident Evil Village game has stopped working / freezes / crashes / error "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG"

Perhaps the problem is overheating of the video card. Check to see if the fans of her cooling system are blocked by adjacent wires. If everything is in order with this, then try resetting the overclocking: go to the MSI Afterburner application and press the Reset button (if such a program is not installed, then the video card most likely did not overclock).
