Maggie (Magdalene)
Maggie has 4 containers of health, at the start she is given an artifact Yum heart (has 4 strips of charge, each of which restores one whole red heart).
Corrupted version: Yum heart moves to the card slot and now, when picking up a card or pill, Magdalene can swap them (activated by pressing the Shift key). Also, all healing effects are 2 times more effective.
How to open: Collect 7 health containers by looting them from bosses, treasures and secret rooms.
Cain
This character is a kind of Isaac, but with a reduced range of tears. Moves faster, hits harder, and also has an artifact that increases the chances of winning in a slot machine.
Corrupted version : picking up an item, breaks it into several separate items. Cain can collect loot with the help of special bags and, having collected 10 such packs in various combinations, he will craft some unique item.
How to open: in the course of one run, you need to accumulate 55 coins (the easiest way is to farm, ignoring the offers of the store, but not forgetting to enter the secret rooms in order to have a chance to summon Greed, which drops a substantial amount of in-game currency upon death).
Judas
At the start, Judas has only one heart, so only the quickest players can handle him. He uses the Book of Belial as an initial artifact, increasing his damage.
Corrupted Version: Starts the race in dark uniform. He does not have red containers, but there is a special item Dark Arts, which for a short period of time accelerates the hero and makes him transparent, protecting him from any damage. While in a ghostly form, Judas, passing through enemies, marks them, and when switching to normal mode, the marked opponents receive a good portion of damage.
How to open: when you have dealt with the Heart of Mom / "It's Alive", go down to Sheol and challenge Satan, after defeating which the character you need will open.
??? (Blue baby)
The Blue Child's health is only replenished with blue hearts, not red hearts. All items that add a health container give one blue heart, which is also used as currency in the Devil's Room.
Corrupted Version: If the Blue Child takes damage, he will produce small piles of dung that, when placed on the ground, deal a certain amount of damage to nearby enemies. At all, ??? generates a huge amount of feces in the rooms, which greatly facilitate the race.
How to open: Kill Mom's Heart 10 times.
Eve
If Eve's health drops to one heart, an artifact is activated, increasing the amount of damage dealt and the speed of movement. The second art (yes, the character has two at the same time) calls a bird into the room, which will attack all enemies nearby.
Corrupted Version: Eve's passive skill summons small blood creatures in exchange for half a red heart. By activating an active skill, the character destroys blood clots and returns the hearts spent on them. If Eve has one stack of health left, the "Enhanced Harlot" mode is activated, in which she uses the "active" as a knife (in this mode, bloody samons still revive).
How to open: during the passage of two floors in a row, you should not raise hearts (for healing, use Yum Heart or Book of Revelations, and if hearts interfere with passing further, push them away with bombs).
Samson
In the process of passing the room, Samson increases his own damage, taking damage from enemies. In other words, the more often you are beaten, the stronger the hero himself will become.
Corrupted Version: Samson gradually goes into a rage during the battle. After entering this mode, the character picks up a bloody rib and uses it as a melee weapon (it can also be thrown). The rage mode does not last long, but each kill of the enemy extends the time.
How to open: during the passage of two floors in a row you should not receive damage (to complete the challenge we recommend using the Sacred Relic and the Book of Shadows).
Azazel
Instead of tears, Azazel uses a special beam that hits at a short distance. As compensation, the character received the effect of flight, the starting artifact is a tarot card that teleports Azazel to the starting room on the floor.
Corrupted Version: Azazel attacks in both melee and long range. If you are fighting close, each blow will knock your enemy back a short distance.
How to Unlock: You need to make three deals with the dark lord in a single run.
Lazarus
Lazarus is unique in that he has the ability to resurrect after death. He comes back to life with increased characteristics and the artifact Anemic, which gives Lazarus the ability to leave behind a trail of blood, causing damage to enemies who step on him.
Corrupted version: after clearing a room, the player switches between two characters with different sets of skills, lives and stats. You can also switch using an active skill, adjusting to certain opponents.
How to open: Accumulate 4 hearts in a row.
Eden
When choosing Eden, you will never know its characteristics and the number of hearts. Unlockable artifacts also endow it with random features that players don't even know about before choosing.
Corrupted Version: When a character takes damage, an effect is triggered, granting Eden with random abilities.
How to Open: Complete Chapter 4, The Womb and All Variations.
Lilith
Lilith does not have her own attack, instead the character uses her companions. At the start of the race, she is given an Incubus attacking at long range.
Corrupted version: the incubus was taken away from the corrupted Lilith, but instead of him the character received his own attack with an embryo, flying to, apparently, the umbilical cord at an average distance.
How to Unlock: As Azazel, you need to defeat the final boss in Greed Mode and Ultra Greed.
Lost (Lost)
Lost is an extremely original character with no health. In other words, one hit is enough for him to die, but he has the effect of flying and gets free items in the Devil's Room.
Corrupted Version: The Lost has no Holy Mental, only a Holy Card. He has more health, and the character also has a 20 percent chance to replace the received artifact with a thing with 2 stars or higher.
How to open: to open the character, you need to die in the sacrifice room with a Missing Poster in your inventory.
Keeper (Guardian)
This character replenishes his health with the help of pick-up coins dropped from enemies. Starts off with an effect that allows him to shoot 3 tears at the same time.
Corrupted version: at the start, the corrupted Keeper has an attack with 4 tears, hearts turn into flies, and coins fall from the defeated enemies (though they disappear after a second, so you need to have time to pick up the loot). Looking into the store, you can understand that the items bought there for coins have become much more interesting.
How to open: to open it, you need to spend 1000 coins in the machine that appears after killing Ultra Greed in Greed Mode.
Apollyon
The character uses his tears as a weapon for medium to long range combat. The active skill is the absorption of artifacts (active arts give skills, and passive ones enhance the characteristics of Apollyon).
Corrupted version: the active skill of absorbing artifacts has been replaced with the skill of summoning flies from defeated opponents. The flies fly to the enemy, at which Apollyon shoots tears, and then return to the character.
How to open: first you must have the Afterbirth + add-on, in which you need to collect the angel key, and also use the Dad's Key in the starting room. You can also use a one-time Get out of Jail Free Card, after which you will have access to the battle with Mega Satan. After defeating him, you can play as Apollyon.
Forgotten
Forgotten is a melee character who uses a bone as a weapon. He can also throw it, using it as a boomerang, and to restore health, he uses bone hearts.
Corrupted version: now the Lost one does not fight with a bone, but is thrown by a whole skeleton, which, in turn, fights with the help of bones. The skeleton can attack at close range as well as shoot bone at medium range.
How to open: After purchasing both DLCs, you need to kill the final boss of the Dark Room location at least once, and also open the Negative item. Now you need to start a new race and deal with the boss of the first floor in less than a minute, after which the shadow of a shovel will appear in the location. Place the bomb there and pick up the dropped Broken Shovel, then continue the race while dodging Mom's Leg along the way.
Without changing the shovel for another item (otherwise it will disappear), collect a powerful build for passing all the bosses. You can take your time, as the limit of 20 minutes with a shovel in hand will no longer apply to you.
After a series of boss victories, the game will give you the second part of the shovel, which will transform the Broken Shovel into Mom's Shovel. Go to the Dark Room location and find a room with freshly dug earth in the center. Standing at this point, use a shovel, and then wait for a message about successful access to the Forgotten.
Bethany
Unlike Maggie, to whom Bethany is very similar, this character focuses on attack, not defense. Picking up gray hearts, she receives a "soul charge" and can summon ghosts that will shoot at enemies. The spirits remain with Bethany even after passing the room, and disappear only after direct contact with the enemy or taking a fair amount of damage.
Corrupted Version: Bethany's book now creates the spirit of a random passive artifact and, as long as this ghost exists, the item will be in the character's possession. Moreover, the spirits themselves are capable of inflicting damage, as well as protecting Bethany from a certain amount of damage taken.
How to Unlock: After purchasing the Repentance add-on, play as Lazarus without losing his second life.
Jacob and Esau (Gemini)
These are, in fact, two characters in one - Jacob and Esau have common coins, bombs and keys, but they use different artifacts and skills. They can be placed in different places by holding the Q button, leaving bombs or taking two arts at the same time. It is possible to "unite" Jacob and Esau again by hitting them against the nearest wall.
Corrupted version: now we have only Jacob at our disposal, while Esau pursues his brother while cleaning the rooms. The demon is capable of inflicting several different blows on both a relative and monsters in the affected area. Jacob can deal with the pesky brother, but then he will turn into Lost. You can get rid of the demon without consequences when moving to another floor - for some time he will not bother you.
How to open: complete the game on an alternative path, having finished with Mom.
