Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart , a new exclusive for PlayStation 5, will hit store shelves very soon. In this guide, we will tell you if the game is worth waiting for on other platforms. Is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart coming to PlayStation 4?

Unlike recent releases, Ratchet and Clank of 2021 are a full-fledged nextgen, which means that the game will not be released on the PlayStation 4. Probably the reason is the claimed fast loading capability, the active use of DualSense functions, and the maximum use of the PS5 SSD. Thus, the next generation console is the only platform on which it will be possible to play the project, at least for the time being.

Will Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart be released on PC?

A slight change in wording in the new gameplay trailer has led some fans to think that the novelty could be released on the PC as well. At the end of its trailers, Sony always includes a note informing viewers whether the game is PlayStation-exclusive or console-specific.

The footnote for the latest trailer reads "exclusive to the PS5 console." It is implied that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will not be coming to other consoles, including PS4, but may very well be coming to PC. Obviously, this is just speculation at the moment. Even if the game is released on computers, most likely it will be very long ago.

Load times and items provided by PS5 SSD cannot be played on PC at this time. However, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, has openly announced that PlayStation games will appear on computers.

In an interview with GQ, Jim Ryan said that the ability to present PlayStation projects to a wider audience, as well as the simplified porting process, means that the release of exclusives on the PC is now "a fairly simple decision" for the company.

When asked why SIE now chooses PC, while earlier the company hesitated to bring its games to the platform, Ryan replied:

I think something has changed. We are now in 2021 with our development studios and the games they make are in better shape than ever before. In the second half of the PS4 cycle, our studios made some great, great games.

There is an opportunity to present these projects to a wider audience, realizing the economics of game development, which is not always easy. The cost of creating games grows with each cycle, as the quality of new projects is constantly improving. In addition, new projects have become easier to make available to players not using consoles. So this is a pretty simple solution for us.

As we can see, the process has begun. Horizon Zero Dawn, like Days Gone, is already available on PC. Both projects have shown excellent sales, so the chosen policy will be continued.

Sadly, Sony's course looks odd to say the least for fans who have believed the studio's words of support for the next generation. Not only that, of the new exclusives, only Demon's Souls and the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart did not appear on the PS4, but now the games will be released on the PC. In such a situation, an obvious question may arise about the advisability of buying a PS5 in general, and the joke "thanks for the beta test" will cease to be funny.

Considering how Microsoft is actively buying studios and insisting on exclusivity of their projects for the Xbox, the new generation for Sony may be very different from the PS4 era. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will obviously not appear on Xbox One and Series X / S - no doubt about that. The series has always been one of the leading titles of consoles from Sony, so giving it to direct competitors is an even more dubious decision than porting to a PC.

Is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart coming to Nintendo Switch?

The games in the series have never left Sony's home, but in the case of Nintendo's console, it is not only exclusivity that matters, but also performance. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is one of the most beautiful games to date with a huge amount of particles and almost seamless movement in different dimensions. All this fireworks takes a lot of resources that the Switch simply doesn't have. Of course, the new portable console will be much more powerful, but we doubt that even it will be able to adequately show what is happening in the game without spoiling the experience from passing.
