How do I shop on Steam?

To start shopping on Steam, you need to provide your payment details. There are several ways to add your bank card or e-invoice.

Balance replenishment for a certain amount

1. Start Steam.
2. Left-click on your avatar in the upper right corner.
3. Open the "About Account" menu.
4. Click on the item "Add a payment method to this account" or "Top up balance", then select one of the fixed amounts.
5. Specify a payment method.

Purchase of selected products

1. Start Steam.
2. Open the Store menu and enter the name of the game you want to purchase in the search engine.
3. Open the page with the game and put it in the basket.
4. Select the other games you plan to buy in the same way.

Starting from January 1, 2021, you can no longer pay using YuMoney (formerly Yandex.Money), WebMoney, QIWI wallet or mobile payments. Available options are the PayPal payment system, as well as bank cards Visa, MasterCard, Mir and American Express.

What is a Steam billing address?

If you prefer to pay by card, you will not only need to enter all the data, but also indicate your billing address.

Billing address - the place of residence of the owner of the bank card from which the purchase is made. In theory, receipts will be sent to this address after purchasing games and other products on Steam. This is due to US law to send you checks, statements and invoices, if necessary, that are associated with an online purchase. Similar requirements are encountered when dealing with American online retailers such as Amazon.

The billing address allows you to confirm the identity of the user, solve possible problems with the payment and reduce the likelihood of fraudulent activities. However, for users from Russia, this is not relevant - everything will be limited to checks that will be sent to e-mail. Our country's laws do not require banks to send receipts to your home. But you will have to leave the address in any case - otherwise you simply will not be able to register your bank card.

How to complete the Payment Information (Payment Methods) Menu on Steam

• Select a Payment Method. Look at your bank card and find the type of payment system - Visa, MasterCard, World or American Express. It also needs to be selected from the pop-up menu.
• Indicate your card number and its validity period (month and year). This information is located on the front of the card.
• Enter the secret CVC-code, which is located on the back of the card. It can be three or four digits long.
• Leave your first and last name, preferably in English, as they appear on your card. Indicate your city next to it.
• In the line "Billing address" indicate the street, house and apartment (if any). As with the previous point, it is better to write in English. You need to leave the index next to it.
• Select your country from the drop-down list. Indicate the phone number in the international format (via +7).

If you choose PayPal, then you will be transferred to the site of this payment system, where the transaction will be carried out.

Do I need to provide my real address on Steam?

Nobody obliges you to provide valid information about your address. If you do not want to report your real registration, you can specify a random street and house. There will be no penalties from Steam. It is only advisable to choose your country in order to buy games at regional prices.

However, there is a small chance that the payment will not go through precisely because you left the wrong address or made a mistake in its spelling. In this case, you will have to indicate your real place of residence. Some banks require an address for registration, others - the one specified when registering the card. Don't be afraid to leave your details. Firstly, the likelihood of data leakage from Steam is extremely small, and secondly, attackers are primarily interested not in your address, but in bank card details. And you have to specify them in any case.
