How to disable touchscreen in Windows 11 laptop

Microsoft is positioning Windows 11 as a touch-enabled system. However, sometimes its use is inconvenient or even interfering. In this guide, we are going to talk about how to quickly disable touch display on Windows 11 laptop.

Disable in Device Manager

  • Press the keyboard shortcuts Win + X to open the context menu
  • Select "Device Manager" there.
  • In the HID Devices section, expand the list to find HID-Compliant Touchscreen.
  • Right click on it and select Disable Device.
  • Select "Yes" to confirm the change.

Thus, you can disable the touch screen and leave only the normal one for displaying data. If you need to enable it, repeat the same set of actions, but on the penultimate item select “Enable device”.

                Disable in Registry Editor

In addition to the "Task Manager", the touch screen can also be disabled through the system registry. Instructions for this are given below.

                    • Open the Run window with the Win + R keyboard shortcut.
                    • Type Regedit and press Enter.
                    • When asked for permission to change, agree. This question won't be asked if you have User Account Control disabled.
                    • In the search bar at the top of the editor window, type the following path and press Enter: "ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWispTouch" (without quotes). You can also navigate to the desired registry branch manually using the left panel.
                    • In the right pane, double-click the TouchGate option.
                    • Enter 0 (zero) instead of 1 in the Value field and click OK.
                    • Reboot your computer.
If you want to re-enable the touchscreen, follow all the above steps, but in the penultimate step, enter 1 instead of 0.
