Black screen ELDEN RING

A black screen can indicate various errors, however, most often this is due to a certain error on the part of the video system, and sometimes the RAM module can be the source of the error. Also, rollback GPU and/or CPU overclocking, if applicable.

Ways to solve this problem

Run ELDEN RING in windowed mode

Windowed mode on Steam

  • Go to the Steam Library
  • Right click on ELDEN RING and go to "Properties"
  • Go to the "General" tab and click "Set Launch Options"
  • Add -windowed
Windowed mode via .exe

  • Right-click on the desktop shortcut of the game and open "Properties"
  • In the line "Object" after the quotes (") add "-windowed"
  • "C:\Games\ELDEN RING\Bin\Win64\ELDEN RING.exe" –windowed

Close programs for capturing video

One of the reasons for the black screen may be video capture programs: OBS Studio, PlayClaw, Flashback Express, and others

In addition, programs related to graphic effects can cause errors. For example VibranceGUI, Nvidia Freestyle, and many others. Different mods can similarly cause errors. Do not forget a simple rule: the fewer programs running simultaneously with the game, the better. Close everything you don't need.

RAM testing

The culprit of the problem sometimes becomes the RAM of the PC.

  1. Run diagnostics using a special program to check the RAM.
  2. Try changing the RAM modules to different slots.
  3. If there are several bars in the PC, then try leaving only one.
  4. Detailed instructions for diagnosing memory can be found on specialized sites.

ELDEN RING freezes

Regular freezes can cause your computer to become unstable. Cancel overclocking of PC elements if used. Test the processor, RAM, video card. Specialized utilities can be selected on the Internet.

DirectX error in ELDEN RING

Troubleshooting Tips
  • Perform a "clean" install of the graphics card driver only. Don't install audio, GeForce Experience... Same for AMD.
  • Disable the second monitor (if available) and any other peripherals.
  • Disable G-Sync.
  • Use System File Checker
  • For NVIDIA cards. Right-click on desktop -> NVIDIA Control Panel. At the top where File, Edit, View... click on "Help" and enable "Debug Mode".
  • Sometimes the cause may be overheating of the video card. Use the FurMark utility to test your graphics card under load. Try lowering the frequencies. For more information, see the Internet on request: undervolting and lowering the frequency of the video card.

Error installing ELDEN RING

Installation stuck. The path to the game should not contain Russian letters, only Latin. Check and clean the hard drive (in rare cases, replacing the SATA cable may help). Try changing the installation path.

ELDEN RING Not saved

The path to the game should not contain Russian letters, only Latin.

"Not enough memory" error

Possible reasons: the game does not have enough RAM; there is not enough space on the hard disk for the paging file; you yourself adjusted the size of the paging file (or disabled it, or used software); some program is leaking memory (open task manager CTRL+ALT+DELETE and sort apps by memory consumption).

Audio problems / No sound in ELDEN RING

General recommendations for sound card problems

First, restart your PC and then check if there is sound in Windows: click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner, and then click on the volume slider.

ELDEN RING stopped launching

What changes did you make on the computer? Perhaps the problem was the installation of a new program. Open the list of installed programs (Start -> Add or Remove Programs), sort by date. Remove newly installed ones. Reinstall ELDEN RING.

Also, check the task manager. If copies of ELDEN RING processes are running, end them all.

ELDEN RING and error 0xc000007b

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). The most common reason for the error when starting the application 0xc000007b is problems with NVidia drivers.

Possible Solutions

  1. Reinstall video card drivers
  2. Try running the game as an administrator
  3. Install/update DirectX, Visual C++, .Net Framework. Download all files only from the official Microsoft website.
  4. Open the Run command prompt from the Start menu and type sfc /scannow. With this command, your PC will scan the system files and fix some errors.
  5. Remove unnecessary software that may conflict with the video driver. Basically, these are various "improvers" of graphics. The fewer additional applications you have running, the better.

The method with Dependency Walker 64bit

  1. Download and extract  Dependency Walker 64bit.
  2. Run the program, go to View > Full paths. Now select the Elden Ring .exe file. After you have selected the .exe of the game, a window may pop up in which you will see errors, just close it. In the module section, scroll down to the bottom of the error block and you will see several values in the columns.
  3. Now in the CPU column, all DLL files should be x64-bit for your game. If there is an x86 DLL file it will be in the red CPU column. This file is what causes the 0xc000007b error.
  4. Now go to and download the 64-bit version of this DLL file there and place it in the root folder of the game and in C:\Windows\system32. The game should now launch without problems.

Control in ELDEN RING does not work

Remove the input device (gamepad, mouse) from the USB and reinsert. If the mouse and keyboard are not working, then try disconnecting the gamepad and other USB devices.

For Origin
  • Library > Right click ELDEN RING > Properties > Uncheck "Enable in-game screen"

ELDEN RING - BSOD or "Blue Screen"

BSOD usually means some kind of serious problem on your system that is not related to the game. First, check your power supply. If it overheats, it will turn off. Also, if the system does not have enough power from it, then various errors are possible, including BSOD. Test other components of your PC. On the network, you can find various utilities to check the memory, hard drive and video card.

ELDEN RING not full screen

Press ALT+ENTER. Check the game settings (window mode, resolution, etc.). In some cases, changing the refresh rate (in the Nvidia control panel) from 60 Hz to 59 Hz (click "Apply"), and back to 60 Hz, helps. Another way: also in the Nvidia control panel, go to the "Adjust the size and position of the desktop" section. In the upper right corner, click "Restore".

Poor performance in ELDEN RING

Follow our recommendations to speed up your computer. Install the latest video card, driver. Restart your PC. Lower the resolution and lower the quality of the effects in the ELDEN RING settings. Do not use all sorts of accelerators and "boosters", as their work in itself takes resources, and at the same time their effectiveness, as a rule, is extremely insignificant. However, you can infect your PC with a virus. Reinstalling Windows. This option should be considered only as a last resort when other methods do not work. This can help because over time, the operating system becomes overgrown with redundant processes and services to the point where it seriously slows down applications.

Optimization of ELDEN RING on PC

This is a big enough topic. There are several things you can do to improve performance.

Tips for optimizing ELDEN RING

Install the latest

Lower graphics settings
The most important thing and the simplest. Try lowering the game's graphic settings to the lowest possible resolution. Keep in mind that settings such as anti-aliasing, texture quality, shadow resolution, and various 3D effects require the most performance.

Overclock your CPU and GPU

If you have good cooling, overclock your GPU and/or CPU. The result of overclocking computer components is increased heat dissipation, and therefore a reduction in service life. Therefore, first of all, you should take care of good cooling. Many modern motherboards already come with software in which you can increase the frequency of the video card or processor. Please note that some video cards (usually with the addition of OC Edition in the name) already come from the manufacturer with overclocked frequencies. Overclocking is a good option if you have a separate system unit. But, for example, it is better not to take risks with laptops, since the cooling capabilities in them are very limited. You can find more information on this subject on the Internet.

Use software from the graphics card manufacturer

AMD Gaming Evolved / NVIDIA GeForce Experience / Intel HD Graphics Control Panel - utilities with all sorts of functions, including game optimization.

Use utilities to clean up junk and junk files

Run a special utility to clean and optimize your PC. Ashampoo WinOptimizer is a simple and convenient utility for cleaning your PC from accumulated garbage.

Defragment and clean up the hard drive

Go to the properties of the drive. Select the "Tools" tab -> click the "Optimize (or defragment)" button. In the same place in the properties, there is the cleaning and checking the disk.

Control Panel Open the NVIDIA (or AMD) Control Panel, go to the Manage 3D Settings (NVIDIA) tab, or Games -> 3D Application Settings (AMD). Here you can set global graphics processing settings if necessary. Or go to "Adjust image settings with preview" (for NVIDIA), then "User settings -> Performance" by moving the slider to the left.

Remove unnecessary processes from startup

Click the Start button (in the lower-left corner). Type msconfig in the search box, press Enter. The system configuration window will open, go to the "Startup" tab (in Win 10, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and go to the same tab). This is a list of programs that automatically load with Windows. Disable everything unnecessary (do not remove applications unknown to you from startup, otherwise you risk damaging the system). Restart your computer. Do not run programs (browser, Skype, etc.). Launch ELDEN RING.

Enhance your Windows experience

Turn on a simple desktop appearance without resource-intensive effects, deactivate unused services, system sounds, and more.

Use Ready Boost

Right-click on the USB drive and select "Properties". In the "Ready Boost" section, check the "Use this device" checkbox.

ELDEN RING stuck in processes

Run ELDEN RING in compatibility mode for another OS.

Sometimes the problem is the Nvidia GeForce Experience driver add-on. Disable all optimizations for the game in it.

On AMD graphics cards, the Gaming Evolved (Raptr) application can create problems. Try temporarily disabling or deleting it.

If there is Nvidia Capture Service in the task manager, try ending the process. End other processes related to video capture.

Update your video card driver.
