ELEX 2 technical issues

In the sequel to ELEX, a vintage open-world RPG, you have to write your own story, in which all your actions have consequences, and ethical decisions are as diverse as the whole game world.


The developer of ELEX II  is Piranha Bytes. If you're having technical issues with the game, the first thing to do is check your PC to see if it meets the system requirements.

Error installing ELEX 2

Installation stuck. The path to the game should not contain Russian letters, only Latin. Check and clean the hard drive (in rare cases, replacing the SATA cable may help). Try changing the installation path.


ELEX 2 stuck in processes

Run ELEX 2 in compatibility mode for other OS.


Sometimes the problem is the Nvidia GeForce Experience driver add-on. Disable all optimizations for the game in it.


On AMD graphics cards, the Gaming Evolved (Raptr) application can create problems. Try temporarily disabling or deleting it.


If there is Nvidia Capture Service in the task manager, try ending the process. End other processes related to video capture.

DirectX error in ELEX 2

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Perform a "clean" install of the graphics card driver only. Don't install audio, GeForce Experience... Same for AMD.
  • Disable the second monitor (if available) and any other peripherals.
  • Disable G-Sync.
  • Use System File Checker
  • For NVIDIA cards. Right-click on desktop -> NVIDIA Control Panel. At the top where File, Edit, View... click on "Help" and enable "Debug Mode".
  • Sometimes the cause may be overheating of the video card. Use the FurMark utility to test your graphics card under load. Try lowering the frequencies. For more information, see the Internet on request: undervolting and lowering the frequency of the video card.

"Not enough memory" error

Possible reasons: the game does not have enough RAM; there is not enough space on the hard disk for the paging file; you yourself adjusted the size of the paging file (or disabled it, or used software); some program is leaking memory (open task manager CTRL+ALT+DELETE and sort apps by memory consumption).

Install the latest

Lower graphics settings
The most important thing and the simplest. Try lowering the game's graphic settings to the lowest possible resolution. Keep in mind that settings such as anti-aliasing, texture quality, shadow resolution, and various 3D effects require the most performance.

Overclock your CPU and GPU

If you have good cooling, overclock your GPU and/or CPU. The result of overclocking computer components is increased heat dissipation, and therefore a reduction in service life. Therefore, first of all, you should take care of good cooling. Many modern motherboards already come with software in which you can increase the frequency of the video card or processor. Please note that some video cards (usually with the addition of OC Edition in the name) already come from the manufacturer with overclocked frequencies. Overclocking is a good option if you have a separate system unit. But, for example, it is better not to take risks with laptops, since the cooling capabilities in them are very limited. Use utilities to clean up junk and unnecessary files

There are many special utilities for cleaning and optimizing your PC. Glary Utilities 5 is a popular utility with a full range of tools aimed at cleaning the system of unnecessary files.

Defragmenting and cleaning the hard drive

Go to the properties of the hard drive. Open the "Tools" tab -> click the "Optimize (or defragment)" button. Don't forget to check and clean up your disk as well.

NVIDIA / AMD Control Panel

In the NVIDIA (or AMD) Control Panel, select the Manage 3D Settings (NVIDIA) tab, or Games -> 3D Application Settings (AMD). You can set both global graphics processing settings here, and separately for ELEX 2. Or select "Adjust image settings with preview" (for NVIDIA), then "User settings -> Performance" by dragging the slider to the left.

Remove unnecessary startup processes

Click the Start button (or the button on your keyboard with the Windows logo). Type the MSConfig command, press Enter. In the system configuration window that opens, open the "Startup" tab (in Win 10, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and go to the same tab). This is a list of programs that automatically load with Windows. Try disabling unnecessary programs so that they do not take up memory (disable only what you know what is used for, otherwise, you may damage the start of the computer). Restart your computer. Do not launch applications (browser, Skype, etc.). Launch ELEX 2.

Increase performance in ELEX 2

Of course, the best way to optimize is to upgrade hardware, but before that, you can try to take the following steps. Install the latest video driver. Restart your computer. Decrease the resolution and also set the effect complexity to low in the graphics options. It is not recommended to use all sorts of "boosters" and accelerators, since their work in itself takes resources, and at the same time their real usefulness, as a rule, is almost imperceptible. However, you only expose your computer to the risk of infection. Reinstall Windows. This option should be used as a last resort if other methods do not work. The essence of the problem is that over time, the “OS” becomes overgrown with unnecessary services and unnecessary processes so much that the execution of applications is significantly slowed down.


ELEX 2 crashes after launch

DLL error in ELEX 2

Errors like: dll is missing, d3d11.dll, msvcp110.dll not found, and others.

IMPORTANT: It is not recommended to download DLL files from third-party sites in an attempt to replace your missing or corrupted DLL files. Use this option only as a last resort.

Standard actions when a DLL error occurs :


  1. Restart your computer
  2. Restore the deleted DLL file from the recycle bin (or use a file recovery program). Of course, this option is suitable if you deleted the file
  3. Scan your computer for viruses and malware
  4. Use System Restore (see instructions online)
  5. Reinstall ELEX 2
  6. Update your drivers
  7. Using System File Checker in Windows 10 (See instructions online)
  8. Update Windows if patches are available
  9. Perform a clean install of Windows
  10. If the DLL error persists after a clean install of Windows, then this problem is not related to the software, but to the components of your PC.

Errors with specific DLLs

If you have any USB controllers (or other devices) connected to the network, try disabling them. Startup crashes with crash module names ntdll.dll and EZFRD64.DLL can (for the latter in particular) be related to USB controllers or PS2 to USB adapters (for various games).

If you are experiencing api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll errors on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft has released a patch to fix the problem.

If you receive an error message MSVCR120.dll, go to C:\Windows\System 32 and look for "MSVCR120.dll". Delete this file. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ELEX 2\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2013 and run "vcredist_x64.exe". Then click "repair" (fix).


Control not working in ELEX 2

A black screen can indicate various errors, however, most often it refers to some kind of problem with the video card, and sometimes the RAM module can be the culprit. Also, disable CPU and/or GPU overclocking if applicable.

Running ELEX 2 in windowed mode

  1. Open the Steam Library
  2. Right-click on ELEX 2 and go to "Properties"
  3. Go to the "General" tab and select "Set Launch Options"

Close programs for capturing video

One of the reasons for the black screen may be video recording programs: Bandicam, AMD ReLive, Dxtory, and others

In addition, programs that are related to video effects can cause problems. For example ReShade, Overwolf, and many others. Various mods can also cause errors. Use the main rule: the fewer applications running simultaneously with the game, the better. Close everything else.


Memory check

In some cases, the PC RAM becomes the culprit of the problem.

  1. Run diagnostics using specialized software for checking RAM.
  2. Try installing DDR modules in other slots.
  3. If there are several modules in the PC, then try leaving only one.

ELEX 2 stopped launching

What changes did you make on the computer? Perhaps the cause of the problem was the installation of a new program. Open the list of installed programs (Start -> Add or Remove Programs), sort by date. Remove newly installed ones. Reinstall ELEX 2.
Also, check the task manager. If copies of ELEX 2 processes are running, end them all.

ELEX 2 - BSOD or Blue Screen

BSOD usually means some kind of serious problem on your system that is not related to the game. First, check your power supply. If it overheats, it will turn off. Also, if the system does not have enough power from it, then various errors are possible, including BSOD. Test other components of your PC. On the network, you can find various utilities to check the memory, hard drive, and video card.

ELEX 2 is not fullscreen

Press ALT+ENTER. Check the game settings (window mode, resolution, etc.). In some cases, changing the refresh rate (in the Nvidia control panel) from 60 Hz to 59 Hz (click "Apply"), and back to 60 Hz, helps. Another way: also in the Nvidia control panel, go to the "Adjust the size and position of the desktop" section. In the upper right corner, click "Restore".

ELEX 2 and error 0xc000007b

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). The most common reason for the error when starting the application 0xc000007b is problems with NVidia drivers.

Possible Solutions
  1. Reinstall video card drivers
  2. Try running the game as an administrator
  3. Install/update DirectX, Visual C++, .Net Framework. Download all files only from the official Microsoft website.
  4. Open the Run command prompt from the Start menu and type sfc /scannow. With this command, your PC will scan the system files and fix some errors.
  5. Remove unnecessary software that may conflict with the video driver. Basically, these are various "improvers" of graphics. The fewer additional applications you have running, the better.

Method with Dependency Walker 64bit
  1. Download and extract  Dependency Walker 64bit.
  2. Run the program, go to View > Full paths. Now select the .exe file of ELEX 2. After you have selected the .exe of the game, a window may pop up in which you will see errors, just close it. In the module section, scroll down to the bottom of the error block and you will see several values ​​in the columns.
  3. Now in the CPU column, all DLL files should be x64-bit for your game. If there is an x86 DLL file it will be in the red CPU column. This file is what causes the 0xc000007b error.
  4. Now go to dll-files.com and download the 64-bit version of this DLL file there and place it in the root folder of the game and in C:\Windows\system32. The game should now launch without problems.

Nothing happens when ELEX 2 starts

Game won't launch from Steam

Method 1: Restart the Steam Client

Method 2: Exit Steam and open the C:\Program Files\Steam\ directory (or whatever you chose when installing Steam).

Delete files

-ClientRegistry.blob

- steam.dll

Restart your computer.

Then run Steam.exe from the Steam installation directory, not from an already existing shortcut.

If ELEX 2 does not start and there are no errors. If this is the first launch, then just try to wait.

Sound errors / Lost sound in ELEX 2

General recommendations for sound card problems

First, restart your PC and then check if there is sound in Windows: click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner, and then click on the volume slider.

ELEX 2 lags

Constant freezes can be the cause of overclocking or another problem that causes the computer to become unstable.
