Winter Ember Guide - All Side Quests


 How to complete each side quest, additional quest, secondary mission


The first side quests can be completed in the southern part of Anargala during the search for Master Iko. Let's learn more about them. All tasks are marked with "question marks" on the map. Each one leads to one of the quests listed below.


locked

The man claims that he forgot the key and cannot get to his house. Agree to help and go right. Find a rope where you can shoot an arrow with a rope. Climb up and climb inside through the window. If desired, search the premises and collect loot. Go down to the first floor, go past the big door and around the corner where the fireplace is, look around the bookshelves. One of the books stands out from the rest. Interact with her to get the library key. Open the large door to let the quest giver in.


The thief has deceived you! If you try to get into the building through the window again, you will find that it is now barricaded by a cabinet. Go to the house on the right. Climb up the boxes on the corner and climb inside through the window. Climb out through another window and from here interact with the library window to get back inside. The thief is in the locked room on the right. You can see it through the hole. Go to the far room on the right, get out through the window onto the boards and use them to get to the window of the desired room. Get inside. The thief fled. There are three books on the bookshelves on the right. Interact with them like this: left, right, middle. The piano will move, and you can go down to the basement. Walk forward through the door and talk to the thief. You can take all the loot or share and get a skill point. The latter option is preferable since there is a lot of loot in the game, and there is not enough space in the inventory. By the way, spend the following skill points on expanding your inventory space. Leave the building so that the hostess does not notice you. Otherwise, three gendarmes will appear.


Pursuit of pursuers

In this side quest, you will encounter bandits for the first time. Follow the marker (to the right of the quest giver) and fight the first bandits who use two axes. Learn to parry their blows (block just before the hit) to make the fight easier. You can not kill enemies, but simply steal the sewer key from them. Go inside through the door and climb into the sewers. An alternative option is to walk past the bandits and shoot a fire arrow at the ice blocks on the left (but only if you have such an arrow). Both ways lead to the same place. Go through the sewers and kill the enemies. Sooner or later you will reach a dead-end in the form of closed turnstiles. Go back a little and go up the stairs to the right. There are boxes nearby. Climb up them even higher and move along the pipe to the turnstiles. Create an arrow with a blunt tip and shoot over the fence at the lever. So you will open the turnstiles and you can kill the last enemies. Return to the quest giver for a reward (200 gold coins).


Call for help

When you find yourself on the other side of the river and break the boards, you will hear a cry for help next to one of the "question marks". This is how the quest will begin. Enter the building through the balcony. Look into the room on the left and listen to the woman. She will say that she was robbed. Follow the blood trail through the window on the second floor by the stairs. Jump down and go further along with the bloodstains. The path will run through several enemies that you need to bypass or kill. Enter the building with the "red cross" where the thief fled. Talk to the man. He doesn't cheat, as the necklace even has his initials on it. Return to the woman and kill her. Search the body to receive a reward - 200 gold coins.


couple in need

The easiest side quest. In the right place, marked with a marker, there is a man and a woman who are pressed by three opponents. Sneak up behind them and kill one of them by stealth. Defeat the other two with a parry and claim the reward - 1 skill point. And don't ask me how the rescued man gave you that skill point!


joy thief

Enter the courtyard where the bandits are standing, kill them and climb the steps closer to the cage. The man will talk to you, a side quest will begin. You need to find a lever and a key. Two markers will appear on the map. Clear out the big yard. One of the enemies in front of the house has a hideout key. You can just steal it and go inside the building. But first I decided to go to the left, behind the lever. Kill all enemies along the way. The lever is inside the safe in the room on the second floor, by the bathtub. The code is currently unknown. Go down and move along this courtyard. Enter the last building and go to the backroom, where there is a note on the bookcase with the code - 572. The same code can be seen inside the shelter, where you will go for the key. Enter the code and take the lever. Climb to the second floor and find the key to the office in the shelter in the back room. Use this key to open the door with a blue lock and take the key to Casey's cage lying on the table. If you have both the key and the lever, go back to the cage and free Casey. The task will end, but a new additional quest will begin.


Brotherly neglect

Run along the marker and chat with Casey. Get inside the house and kill the two bandits. Read the note that the GC hid in the book at the back of the room, on the bookshelf. You can now cross the bridge that was previously blocked. Above the shelter, which was cleared of bandits on the assignment "Pursuit of pursuers." Kill enemies in white hoods. Clear the camp and get to the shore where Casey's brother is. Go around him and hold Q to stun him. If you just press Q, then Arthur will kill him and the task will fail.


You will find out who Casey's brother sold the diamond to. Follow the marker and enter the shop of the merchant who will run away from you. Follow and interact with the painting. Create a blunt arrow and shoot it at the lever on the left to open the gate. The enemy will fire weapons at you. To be honest, I did not find another way out, and I had to break the difficult lock on the left. Enter this building and exit through the window. Hack the door ahead to bypass the merchant. He will run further. Follow along. Get on the platform and quickly get off it to avoid falling into the spiked log trap. Talk to the merchant in the room and take the diamond from the safe. Give it back to Casey. As a reward, you will receive 1 skill point and 200 gold.


black seeds

This is the next side quest given by the black market merchant (visit in the story). Use the carriage and go closer to the marker. Go around the building on the right, kill the enemy in the alley and shoot an arrow with a rope. Climb up the rope and clear the roof. One of the enemies will have the beans you need. Go through the door on the far side of the roof, exit to the other side and burn the poisonous plant. To do this, you need to create an arrow with fire. Return to the quest giver to complete the quest. You will receive 1 skill point. You will also learn where to look for a sewer map.


obsessive romantic

The quest can be taken after you go behind the bar to the park according to the plot of the game. New markers will appear. Climb the ladder on the side of the metal bridge and chat with the man. Follow the marker and fight the bandit. When he leaves, the "savior" will appear. Don't do anything. Let him beat you up (4-5 hits). Then finish off the three bandits and hide their bodies in the tall grass. It remains to return to the quest giver for a reward - 200 gold coins.


Let's skip one?

Talk to the woman at the Crab Meat Bar. Listen to the man and go upstairs. Enter the far room on the left. If you haven’t been there yet, you need to look into the room on the right and get over the ventilation duct. The women will not be there. Open the door on the left in this room and exit to the balcony. You will see a woman running away. Chase her, guided by the markers. The woman will try to escape on the boat. Cross over to the other side of the canal and go right. Pull the lever to close the gate. The task will end. You will get your money back and get 1 skill point. The path to the lever is blocked by a door with a middle lock.


Neighbor's Secret

One of the side quests that you can take in Midgown, which becomes available after you complete most of the story quest "She Offered an Apple". Enter the house of an old woman who lost her cat. Get out through the window on the right and jump over to the neighbor's yard. On the left, there is a beam into which you need to shoot an arrow with a rope. Climb up there, follow the boxes and barrels above and enter the house through the side window. If you break open the large door, you can go to the balcony with a skill point. Go down to the first floor and turn off the gramophone. The enemy will come out of the basement. Follow him down and finish him off. Examine the list of victims and find out where you need to go to find the second killer. Exit to the courtyard through the door on the right and run around the building to the chimney where the smoke comes out. There is a cat there. Interact with her. Open the gate and run to the woman. The cat will be there. It remains to go to the Lake of Lovers and hunt down the killer. Finish him off while he's in the bushes. As a reward from the woman, you will receive 200 gold coins (when you return the cat).


Missing item

One of the side quests that you can take in Midgown, which becomes available after you complete most of the story quest "She Offered an Apple". Chat with one of the black market merchants, which is indicated by a "question mark". To get to it, climb onto the boxes on the bridge and jump down. Get to the location of the old carriage and follow the bloody trail. Open the gate and clear the yard of dogs. Then finish off the bandits.


Climb up to the building, go inside and kill the enemies. Search all rooms (optional). Go outside and run around the building to find another one. There is a lock on the door. Run left. You can get inside through the window, but then you have to break the lock. Opposite the window there is a white part of the fence. Get down and climb with your hands to the left. This will allow you to enter the building through another window. Take the stolen items and take them to the merchant. As a reward, you will receive 1 skill point.


Mad genius

Find the intercom at the school gate and listen to the madman. Then move the cobblestone located on the right and take the key. Go through the gate and clear the yard from the zombies. Go to the right of the main entrance and use the side entrance. Search all classrooms. Open the door on the left wing to create a shortcut to the courtyard with the fountain. Climb the stairs to the second floor (on the left) and open the director's office. On the table is the key to the school yard. Go downstairs and open the big door at the end of the corridor to get to the school yard. Clear this place to make it easier in the future. You can search the buildings on the right. There are two doors in the far left corner. One of them leads to the school laboratory, where you will meet a mad scientist. Listen to him.


You will receive two markers. In these places you need to find three electrodes. Follow the hideout. Go through the swamp with enemies, enter the back through the main door and look around. There is a deer head that you can turn over, but it won't do anything. Exit to the backyard and find the generator. Shoot him with an electric arrow, quickly return to the house and turn over the statue of a deer to reveal a secret room. Climb to the second floor and break open the door with a light lock. You need a code for the safe. Get out through the window to the left of the bed and follow the ventilation shaft. At the very end, jump down to the balcony and climb into another part of the house through the window. Take the electrode from the table. Turn the board over to see the code for the safe - 263. You can open it if you wish (there will be a fake diamond inside).


Now go to the hospital. Once inside, move to the far right corner and pick the hard lock. Or try to find the key. Inside you will find a note saying that the electrode is in the morgue. Here lies another electrode. Be sure to pick it up and go up to the second floor. Steal the mortuary key from one of the nurses. Run to the left wing of the first floor and go outside. Open the morgue door and kill all the enemies. If you find a safe in the hospital, open it with code 103. Go up the crates by the elevator on the right, stand on the elevator and shoot the electric arrow at the generator. Use the elevator to go down. Kill all the enemies and find the electrode in the chest in the back room. The chest will be locked, and look for the key to it on the top floor of the morgue, in one of the rooms. Bring all three electrodes to the mad scientist to complete the quest. Another task will begin.


Flesh for experiment

One of the side quests that you can take in Midgown, which becomes available after you complete most of the story quest "She Offered an Apple". Return to the school and open the door at the center of the corridor intersection. The infected will run away. Chase the woman, killing enemies along the way. Follow the marker. Go around the private house and enter the warehouse. Climb up and take a couple of steps to make enemies appear. Kill them, then go upstairs and wait for the infected to appear. Stun the woman and pick up the body. Don't worry, you won't have to manually carry the body all this distance. The game will automatically move you to the scientist. Put the body near the generators and talk to the scientist. The task is completed, but you need to deal with the last quest.


defy physics for love

In the far right corner there is a grave with a cracked fence. Go through the fence and kill all the bandits. Exhume the body to automatically return to the scientist. The experiment will be completed.


Missing miners

Enter the mine and first kill all the zombies. Then look for the cage in which the researchers are locked. Pull the lever. Arthur will be trapped. There are crates in the far corner. Climb up them and jump over to the platform in the center. If there are resources or ready-made arrows with a blunt tip, shoot at the boards, and then at the very lever. If not, keep jumping and find a passage to the next room. There will be arrows. Help the miners get out. Receive 1 skill point as a reward.


Mercy for the sick

One of the side quests that you can take in Midgown, which becomes available after you complete most of the story quest "She Offered an Apple". Near the hospital, in one of the tents, there is a woman and a sick man. They will ask you to get Coraltain medicine. Enter the hospital, go down the far corridor on the right and enter the first room. This is a nurse's office. Talk to the nurse. She will tell you what to do. Return to the swamp and look for large glowing blue mushrooms. Gather three of these mushrooms and bring them to the woman. She will leave, but will soon return and complain that the generator has broken. Climb up and open the nearest office. Follow above and try to start the generator with the lever. Nothing will come of it. Climb the crate on the left and move through the ventilation shaft. On the other side, kill all the enemies. Then open the gate on the right and shoot the generator with an electric arrow. Return to the nurse. Buy medicine for $50 and give it to the patient. You will receive 1 skill point.


poisonous pumpkins

Read any to learn about poisoned pumpkins. Go to Rolfy's farm and listen to the man. Move to the warehouse, go around it and find a field with pumpkins. Climb the stairs, read the note and take the key. Get out through the next window and shoot a blunt arrow at the lever. So you lower the bridge. Follow the bridge to the other side. Be careful below as there are traps. Go to Wolfe's territory. Go around the dog, do not let it find you. Pick up the bag lying near the dog house. Then get out of here through the gate on the left. Run forward until the task is updated. You are asked to neutralize Wolfie, but do not damage him. Create an arrow with sleeping pills, but use a cat as a tip. A normal arrow will deal damage and fail the mission. Shoot Wolfie. Go into the house and chat with the boy. Report everything to your father. You will receive 1 skill point.


small favor

Graveyard Keeper

Inside the crypt, break the boards with a blunt arrow and take the key. Go to the far left corner of the cemetery and open the gate. Enter inside the house. To do this, follow the boards to the left, hang on your hands and climb further. Climb inside through the window. Interact with the books on the far cabinet: right, left, middle. Go down to the basement and listen to the prisoners. Get out and find the Abductor in the cemetery. Get close to him quickly so he can use the sword. Parry and counterattack. If the Abductor hides, run through the cemetery and look for him. After the victory, pick up the key and return to the building to free the captives.


Treasure of Beatrix

She worries about her treasure. Enter the toilet on the right and interact with the toilet bowl. The woman will step aside. Enter another room and you will see a safe. Read the note on the bed. This is a hint to the safe. Enter code 032 and search the safe. Exit to the backyard and search the chest. Inside it will be a note from Beatrix's son. Talk to the woman. Now follow to the brothel. Pay money so you can go behind the counter. There is a key on the left. Grab it and open the far left door. The guy is sleeping. Take the diamond from the chest on the right. You can sell it or return it to Beatrix. But if they didn't sell a fake diamond,


poisoned well

Kill all enemies and search the man's corpse. Go outside and follow to the right. The blood trail will lead you to the enemies behind the bridge. Kill them and close the two barrels of Repentance. Go further, go inside the building and destroy three barrels with fire arrows (aim at the boxes). Let the couple know that the investigation is over. You will receive 1 skill point.


Disrespect for authorities

The task can be taken in the prison "Repentance". Talk to the prisoner, find a soldier in the indicated room and stun him by sneaking up and holding Q. Pick him up and take him to the elevator nearby. Ride up and leave the enemy on the roof. Return to the quest giver.


Locked up for your own good

This side quest can be taken in the northern part of the city. Help the woman get out of the house by breaking the light lock on the door. Go to the specified building and chat with the man in the bedroom on the second floor. He will hide. Follow him, get out and go down. He ran into the house. Return to the house and go to the stairs. The man will drop the barrel and set fire to the oil. Extinguish the fire with an arrow filled with water and go upstairs. Go right. You will hear the sound of a piano. Use the window on the left to get into the closed room. Talk to the man, the task is completed.


night hound

This side quest can be taken in the northern part of the city. Listen to the merchant. Follow the dog while killing enemies (soldiers and zombies). Break open the lock of the building on the left and go up the stairs inside it. Jump over to the next building. Go out into the yard and kill the dog. Take the stolen items. To go back, move along the right fence. Climb into the house through the window and get out through the other. Return to the merchant.


Curator

Another side quest from the northern part of the city. The owner of an art gallery asks you to find 10 paintings with cats for him. The merchant has one picture, the other picture is in the house where the girl was locked up. Look for another picture to the right of the brothel, in a residential building. You need to climb to the roof and go down the side stairs to climb into the apartment through the window. There are two paintings in the bank, but you will only get there after you advance through the storyline. Look for another painting in the barn near the Blue Canary boat. Look for the seventh picture inside the neighbor's house. You need to go down from the hatch in the right lower part of the city. The same path you used when you first got here and tried to find the boat. There are two more paintings inside the brothel. The most interesting thing is that these paintings are not marked on the map. On the other side, if you are nearby, a white area appears on the radar (interface), indicating that there is a painting nearby. The tenth picture must be sought in the place where the gang is operating. Passage near the bank (but not the one that leads to a dead-end). You will also get there through the story, but you can go right away. When you have collected all the paintings, return to the curator (or bring one at a time).
