Dread Hunger: How to win with Explorers? Tips, strategies and tricks

The Explorers are one of the two sides in which Dread Hunger, the online survival title, can be played. These characters aim to drive a boat and flee the area before the Subdued end up killing them or destroying the boat.

After having taught you the basic mechanics to play in our guide, in this specific post we want to show you the best tips and strategies to keep in mind when playing as an Explorer in order to succeed and take victory with you. Will you be able to win? If you keep these tricks in mind, surely yes:

Prioritize moving the ship

Prioritize moving the ship

As we have already mentioned, the main objective of the Explorer players is to move the ship and make it out of the area towards the open sea, although along the way there are problems such as the boiler needs coal, the Subdued can sabotage the advance and large icebergs block the progress. He passed.

Regardless, it's proven that one of the most efficient ways to win the game as a Scout is to continually prioritize moving the ship forward, rather than trying to figure out who the two Subdued are sneaking into the crew. Why? Well, for the following reasons :

  • Rarely you will be able to discover a Subject: performing an action that incriminates him as such. This is pretty random and chasing another player all the time just trying to see if he's a sub or not is a waste of time.
  • Collaborating with your 6 companions is the fastest: if you all work on your goals to bring coal to the ship and destroy the icebergs on the way, it is possible to win the game just by doing this.
  • Attempting to kill the Subdued: This is much slower and riskier than working on moving the ship.

Don't be afraid to kill other players

Don't be afraid to kill other players

Linked to the previous advice, we are going to clarify this point. What we have explained to you above does not mean that you have to ignore the Submissive around you. Prioritizing ship movement is important to winning as a Scout, but without a doubt, killing the one you think is suspicious can give you and your team a huge advantage in the game.

  • Seeing a player doing something incriminating or even mistrusting their words or actions can lead you to consider whether or not to kill them.
  • Sometimes it's best to err on the side of caution, but generally speaking, killing another player you don't trust at all can lead to a Subdued.
  • Even if you make a mistake and kill a fellow Scout, by sheer numerical superiority this side can still win with one or two fewer dead companions.
  • The more games you play the more you will sharpen your sixth sense for this. Don't be afraid to take chances, most of the time having one less Subdued roaming the map is an easy win.

How to discover the Subjects?

How to discover the Subjects?

What are the clues that expose a Submissive? How do you know which players in the game are your rivals and are trying to mess up your plans? There are several key points in Dread Hunger that will help you identify a Subjugated and it is very important to recognize them quickly.

Keep in mind these details that serve to know with certainty that a player is a Submitted:

  • The Subdued can store gunpowder in their barrels: if you suspect a player, you can ask them via voice chat to show you the contents of their barrel. If he refuses to do so, do not hesitate, he is a fraud.
  • Bone Daggers are exclusive to the Subdued: if you see a character with this weapon in their hands or catch them casting a sorcery spell, it is 100% certain that you are dealing with a Subdued. Warn the others and kill him immediately.
  • Keep an eye out for the Totems: they are the bone and wood effigies that the Subdued can place around the stage. If you see a character near one, it's likely a Subdued who just built it.

More clues that give away a Subject

We have told you the easy ways to find out who is a Subdued in your game, but even with everything, there are more small details that can give away a player on this side, for example:

  • Erratic behaviors.
  • Watch him explore alone at night.
  • Check that it never helps in the tasks of advancing the ship.
  • The player is dedicated to murdering others for no apparent reason.
  • He takes control of the ship and causes it to crash or divert its trajectory.
  • Try to give clumsy, untrue explanations or directly lie about something.
  • Two players always move together everywhere (probably the Subjugated pair cooperating with each other).
  • He gives you too many item gifts (he could be pretending to be friends).

Novice players are much easier to identify as Submissive as they make more mistakes in all these fields, but you will have to hone your instincts with the more experienced ones, as these can even perform their purpose so well that they will confuse you or put teammates up. against you. Be very careful, never let your guard down and make a mental note of anything that makes you doubt.

Cooperate with other Explorers

Cooperate with other Explorers

Due to the two sides of the characters, the Explorers in Dread Hunger are always going to be pressured by the suspicion of not knowing who is a friend and who is a foe. This is logical, and in the end, mistrust leads you to want to play individually without being able to believe anyone at face value. However, until proven otherwise, cooperation should not be set aside.

Remember that Scouts outnumber Subdued, so purely statistically working side by side with another player is a sign that he's also on your side (subdued generally don't last too long pretending to be a Scout). Therefore, do not rule out cooperation, especially at the beginning. You'll have time later in the game to spin your suspicions and close the circle on the most sneaky players.
