Dune: Spice Wars and error 0xc000007b

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). The most common reason for the error when starting the application 0xc000007b is problems with NVidia drivers.

Possible Solutions
  1. Reinstall video card drivers
  2. Try running the game as an administrator
  3. Install/update DirectX, Visual C++, .Net Framework. Download all files only from the official Microsoft website.
  4. Open the Run command prompt from the Start menu and type sfc /scannow. With this command, your PC will scan the system files and fix some errors.
  5. Remove unnecessary software that may conflict with the video driver. Basically, these are various "improvers" of graphics. The fewer additional applications you have running, the better.

The method with Dependency Walker 64bit
  1. Download and extract  Dependency Walker 64bit.
  2. Run the program, go to View > Full paths. Now select the .exe file of Syberia: The World Before. After you have selected the .exe of the game, a window may pop up in which you will see errors, just close it. In the module section, scroll down to the bottom of the error block and you will see several values in the columns.
  3. Now in the CPU column, all DLL files should be x64-bit for your game. If there is an x86 DLL file it will be in the red CPU column. This file is what causes the 0xc000007b error.
  4. Now go to dll-files.com and download the 64-bit version of this DLL file there and place it in the root folder of the game and in C:\Windows\system32. The game should now launch without problems.

Errors with specific DLLs

MSVCP140.dll error message. You need to update/install the Visual C++ package.
This can be done at

If you have any USB controllers (or other devices) connected to the network, try disabling them. Startup crashes with crash module names ntdll.dll and EZFRD64.DLL can (for the latter in particular) be related to USB controllers or PS2 to USB adapters (for various games).

Black screen Dune: Spice Wars

A black screen can indicate various errors, but most often it is due to a certain error on the part of the video card, and in some cases, the RAM module is the cause. Also, disable GPU and/or CPU overclocking, if applicable.

Recommendations for fixing this problem

Running Dune: Spice Wars in Windowed Mode

Windowed mode on Steam

  1. Open the Steam Library
  2. Right-click on Dune: Spice Wars and open "Properties"

Windowed mode via .exe

  1. Right-click on the desktop shortcut of the game and open "Properties"
  2. In the line "Object" after the quotes (") add "-windowed"
  3. "C:\Games\Dune: Spice Wars\Bin\Win64\Dune: Spice Wars.exe" --windowed

Close programs for capturing video

One of the reasons for the black screen may be video capture applications: Bandicam, PlayClaw, Flashback Express, and others

In addition, problems can be caused by programs that are related to video processing in games. For example ReShade, Overwolf, etc. All sorts of modifications can also cause errors. Remember the elementary rule: the fewer programs running simultaneously with the game, the better. Remove everything unnecessary.

RAM Diagnostics

The culprit in some cases is the PC's RAM.

  1. Run diagnostics using software to check the RAM.
  2. Try changing the RAM modules to different slots.
  3. If the PC has 2 or more modules, then try leaving only one.
  4. See the memory test instructions for detailed steps.

Error installing Dune: Spice Wars

Installation stuck. The path to the game should not contain Russian letters, only Latin. Check and clean the hard drive (in rare cases, replacing the SATA cable may help). Try changing the installation path.

Dune: Spice Wars Not saved

The path to the game should not contain Russian letters, only Latin.

"Not enough memory" error

Possible reasons: the game does not have enough RAM; there is not enough space on the hard disk for the paging file; you yourself adjusted the size of the paging file (or disabled it, or used software); some program is leaking memory (open task manager CTRL+ALT+DELETE and sort apps by memory consumption).

Dune: Spice Wars hangs in the dispatcher

Run Dune: Spice Wars in compatibility mode for another OS.

Sometimes the problem is the Nvidia GeForce Experience driver add-on. Disable all optimizations for the game in it.

On AMD graphics cards, the Gaming Evolved (Raptr) application can create problems. Try temporarily disabling or deleting it.

If there is Nvidia Capture Service in the task manager, try ending the process. End other processes related to video capture.

Update your video card driver.

Dune: Spice Wars lags

Regular lags may indicate problems with the PC. Cancel overclocking of PC components if it is in use. Test the video card, processor, hard drive, and RAM. Special applications are presented in large numbers on the Internet.

Boost your performance in Dune: Spice Wars

Use our recommendations to optimize your PC performance. Update your video card driver. Reboot your PC. Lower the resolution and choose a lower effect complexity in the graphics options. It is not recommended to use any kind of accelerators and "boosters", as they may contain malware, and besides, their effectiveness is most often almost imperceptible. However, you can infect your PC with a virus. Reinstall Windows. It makes sense to use this method as a last resort when other methods have no effect. The fact is that over time, the "OS" becomes overgrown with unnecessary processes to such an extent that the execution of programs is seriously slowed down. More tips on optimizing Dune: Spice Wars.

DirectX error in Dune: Spice Wars

Errors like: DirectX Runtime Error, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Perform a "clean" install of the graphics card driver only. Don't install audio, GeForce Experience... Same for AMD.
  • Disable the second monitor (if available) and any other peripherals.
  • Disable G-Sync.
  • Use System File Checker
  • For NVIDIA cards. Right-click on desktop -> NVIDIA Control Panel. At the top where File, Edit, View... click on "Help" and enable "Debug Mode".
  • Sometimes the cause may be overheating of the video card. Use the FurMark utility to test your graphics card under load. Try lowering the frequencies. For more information, see the Internet on request: undervolting and lowering the frequency of the video card.

Optimizing Dune: Spice Wars on PC

This is a rather broad question. You can perform many actions to increase FPS.

Dune: Spice Wars Optimization Tips

Install the latest

Lower graphics settings

The most important thing and the simplest. Try lowering the game's graphic settings to the lowest possible resolution. Keep in mind that settings such as anti-aliasing, texture quality, shadow resolution, and various 3D effects require the most performance.

Overclock your CPU and GPU

If you have good cooling, overclock your GPU and/or CPU. The result of overclocking computer components is increased heat dissipation, and therefore a reduction in service life. Therefore, first of all, you should take care of good cooling. Many modern motherboards already come with software in which you can increase the frequency of the video card or processor. Please note that some video cards (usually with the addition of OC Edition in the name) already come from the manufacturer with overclocked frequencies. Overclocking is a good option if you have a separate system unit. But, for example, it is better not to take risks with laptops, since the cooling capabilities in them are very limited. You can find more information on this subject on the Internet.

Use software from the graphics card manufacturer

AMD Gaming Evolved / NVIDIA GeForce Experience / Intel HD Graphics Control Panel - utilities with all sorts of functions, including game optimization.

Use utilities to clean up junk and unnecessary files

There are many special utilities for cleaning and optimizing your PC. Glary Utilities 5 is a popular utility with a full range of tools aimed at cleaning the system of unnecessary files.

Disk Optimization

Go to disk properties. Select the "Tools" tab -> click the "Defragment (or Optimize)" button. In the same place in the properties, there is the cleaning and checking of the disk.

NVIDIA / AMD Control Panel

In the NVIDIA (or AMD) Control Panel, go to the Manage 3D Settings (NVIDIA) tab, or Games -> 3D Application Settings (AMD). You can set both global graphics processing settings here, and separately for Syberia: The World Before. Or under "Adjust Image Settings with Preview" (for NVIDIA), then "User Settings -> Performance" by moving the slider all the way to the left.

Remove unnecessary processes from startup

Click the Start button (in the lower-left corner). Type msconfig in the search box, then press Enter. The system configuration window will open, select the "Startup" tab (in Win 10, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and open the same tab). You will see a list of programs that automatically load with Windows. Disable the download of everything unnecessary (do not remove applications you do not know from startup, otherwise you risk disrupting the computer). Restart your computer. Temporarily disable applications (antivirus, Skype, etc.). Launch Syberia: The World Before.

OS Optimization

Free up some resources by turning off Windows visual effects, deactivating unused services, built-in debuggers, and more.

Increase RAM using a flash drive

Right-click on the USB drive and select "Properties". Go to the "Ready Boost" tab, check "Use this device".

Dune: Spice Wars not full screen

Press ALT+ENTER. Check the game settings (window mode, resolution, etc.). In some cases, changing the refresh rate (in the Nvidia control panel) from 60 Hz to 59 Hz (click "Apply"), and back to 60 Hz, helps. Another way: also in the Nvidia control panel, go to the "Adjust the size and position of the desktop" section. In the upper right corner, click "Restore".

Dune: Spice Wars - BSOD or Blue Screen

BSOD usually means some kind of serious problem on your system that is not related to the game. First, check your power supply. If it overheats, it will turn off. Also, if the system does not have enough power from it, then various errors are possible, including BSOD. Test other components of your PC. On the network, you can find various utilities to check the memory, hard drive, and video card.

Dune: Spice Wars stopped launching

What changes did you make on the computer? Perhaps the problem was the installation of a new program. Open the list of installed programs (Start -> Add or Remove Programs), sort by date. Remove newly installed ones. Reinstall Dune Spice Wars.
Also, check the task manager. If copies of Dune: Spice Wars processes are running, end them all.
