In the second part of the game, in addition to 3D space, a lot of new characters, mechanics, opponents, and items appeared. All these innovations will make even the veterans of the first part of the game sweat. If you are unable to complete the game as a Survivor or are having difficulty unlocking a character, please read this guide.
Characters in Risk of Rain 2 are called survivors. There are a total of 9 heroes in the game, each of which has its own unique characteristics, set of equipment, abilities, and backstory.
Commando
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Double Shot is the Commando's main attack, dealing 2x90% damage. A little damage is more than offset by the rate of fire and range.
- Phase Ammo is an additional skill that deals 300% damage. It goes well with a normal attack, with a large cluster of opponents.
- Tactical Throw is a utility skill that allows the Commando to dodge projectiles.
- Suppressive Fire is a special skill that deals 100% damage per shot. In addition, the shot also stuns opponents. Can be combined with other skills to deal maximum damage or leave the battlefield unscathed.
Unlocked abilities:
- Phase Burst - Deals much more damage than Phase Ammo, but the projectiles spread quickly, making it difficult to use the skill effectively at long range. To unlock this ability, you need to finish off the overload worm.
- Tactical Sliding is a dash about the same length as a Tactical Throw, however, during this dash you can shoot. To get this skill, you need to charge the teleporter at the first level in 5 minutes or less. Despite the apparent complexity, it is very simple to do this. As soon as you land at the first location, immediately go in search of a teleporter. Open as many boxes as you can along the way, or at least memorize their locations. Open the portal when you collect 2-4 items. At this point, the monsters have not yet had time to become too strong and the items you have collected should be enough to win up.
- Frag Grenade is a dual-shot skill that does a lot of damage in a small radius. To unlock, you must complete 20 levels in one attempt without using lunar items. There should be no problems with the second point since most lunar objects do more harm than good. To reach level 20, it is enough to collect a good set of items to feel confident on the last level of difficulty. How to do this, read below.

Huntress
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Moving sideways is the archer's main attack. The arrows aim on their own, so you don't have to aim, but it makes up for this by only being able to shoot from close range.
- Laser Glaive - An additional attack that hits up to 6 targets. Best used on-air targets, as they are much harder to hit with other attacks.
- Blink is a skill that allows you to teleport a long distance.
- Rain of Arrows - Casting this ability teleports you high into the air and then unleashes a slow shower of arrows in a small radius. The ability can be used as a second dodge skill because after using it, the character freezes in the air for a couple of seconds.
Unlocked abilities:
- Flurry is an alternative main attack that fires three arrows at once, dealing more damage in total, one normal. To open, you need to make sure that all 6 bounces of the glaive kill someone. The easiest way to do this is by throwing a glaive after a rain of arrows, or by collecting a couple of crowbars.
- Phase Jump - Teleport up to 3 times over a short distance. To get the skill, you need to collect 12 crowbars. This can be done in two ways. Either play long enough to collect 12 Scrap, or find a Scrap Printer and spend all your white items on it, but be prepared for the fact that in this case, your playthrough will most likely not end in success.
- Ballista - Replaces a hail of arrows with 3 powerful shots. The skill recharges faster than its counterpart and deals more damage. Opens after the hunter passes the third location without taking damage. If you do not know how to carefully and quickly collect items, then get to the third level as quickly as possible. Then find high ground and attack from there until the portal recharges. This achievement will require several restarts to complete, as the portal may spawn in the wrong place.

Capabilities:
- The Automatic Nailgun is one of the four main attack options. It is a machine gun that, after firing, fires a charge of 12 rounds. Suitable for medium-range battles with many small opponents.
- Armaturina is the second variant of the main attack. Allows you to fire one projectile that deals 600% damage. Due to its high accuracy and damage, it is ideal for destroying targets in the distance, as well as battles in the later stages of the game.
- Explosive Pack - Throws a bomb that stuns and damages enemies in a sphere around it.
- Transport mode is a dash that greatly increases your defense and speed. If you crash into an enemy while dashing, you will knock them back and deal damage based on your speed at the time of the collision.
Unlocked abilities:
- Junk Launcher - the ability allows you to fire up to four rockets that damage all targets in the explosion zone. To unlock the skill, you need to kill two bosses, Queen Beetles, without leaving the teleport zone. To get the achievement, restart the first level until the sanctuary of the mountain appears on the level. Activate it and go charge the portal. If other bosses appear instead of queen beetles, then restart the level again. When all conditions are met, focus all damage on the bosses. Stay behind them and it won't be difficult to destroy them.
- Energy Saw is a melee attack that deals 1000% damage to all enemies in front of you every second. To unlock the Power Saw, finish off the Imp Lord with a Preon Accumulator.

Engineer
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Bouncing Grenades is the Engineer's primary attack, allowing him to fire parabolic projectiles. The longer you hold the attack button, the more grenades the Engineer will release. At maximum charge, the damage is really high, but the disadvantage of this ability is that it is impossible to hit targets in the air or far away with grenades.
- Push Mines - Plant up to four mines that are triggered when an enemy approaches them. If you want to cover more opponents, then do not place all the mines in one place, as they work instantly. If you are trying to destroy a specific target, then place mines not directly under the enemy’s feet, but in a place where your enemy will be in a couple of seconds. This will give the mines time to recharge and deal more damage.
- Bubble Shield - Installation of an impenetrable shield-sphere. It is best to place the shield against the walls and above the turrets. When installing it, also think that after a while the shield will turn off and you will have to cope without it for about ten seconds.
- TR12 Gaussian Turret - A skill that allows you to place two turrets. They work in the same way as regular shooting turrets, but unlike them, they have all the properties that you get from items.
Unlocked abilities:
- Ball Mines - Deal slightly less damage than normal mines and do not require a charge. To get the skill, you need to kill the teleport boss within 5 seconds after it appears. To deal with this, collect as many crowbars as possible and throw mines at the boss that appears.
- Thermal Harpoons - The skill replaces a shield, allowing you to launch up to 4 rockets at one or more targets. The damage leaves much to be desired, so it's best to leave the shield and let the turrets deal with the threat from the air. To unlock the harpoons, you need to finish charging the teleport when there are no monsters left on the level. This is easy to do if you go to the portal in the first minute of the game. In this case, all the monsters will be in your line of sight, and even if you do not have enough time to destroy them, you can always leave the charge zone and finish off the monsters without charging the portal.
- Coal-TR58 Turret - Turrets that follow you and deal twice as much damage as their counterparts. These turrets outperform Gaussian turrets in all directions, however, they require 12 helpers to open, which is quite difficult to do in one playthrough.

Artificer
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Flame Shot - Fires a projectile that sets enemies on fire. The projectile flies slowly, so always aim ahead.
- Super Nano Bomb - Throw a stun bomb. The longer you hold the attack button, the more damage will be dealt. The bomb flies very slowly, so it is not recommended to use it at long distances.
- Flash Freeze is an ability that creates a freezing wall. Enemies frozen by the wall can be killed much faster due to reduced health, so use this ability on wounded enemies, or use it in combination with a nanobomb.
- Flamethrower - a stream of flame that causes massive damage to all enemies in front of the character.
Unlocked abilities:
- Plasma Bolt - Shoots a fiery projectile that deals damage in an area. You shouldn't replace the Fire Bolt with this ability, as the Burn is much more effective and the AoE damage can be dealt with items. To get the skill, you need to kill 20 opponents. This achievement is easiest to complete in the late stages of the game when the enemies themselves are in large piles, and your nanobomb has a lot of damage.
- Summon Nanospear - Throw a freezing projectile. The damage of the ability is equal to the damage of the nanobomb, but the range is much smaller, so the original skill wins this comparison. To unlock the skill, kill the teleport boss with a series of hits in one second, meaning the boss must die before one second has passed after the first hit. To do this, collect a couple of crowbars and activate the glass artifact. Then summon the boss and shoot him with a fully charged bomb and a series of fire projectiles.
- Ionic Surge - the ability stuns enemies around the character, and throws him up. In battles, this skill is much more useful than a flamethrower, since, among other things, it allows the character to be out of reach from enemy attacks. To get the ability, you need to kill 15 enemies before the character touches the air. The achievement is quite simple. Jump from the highest point of the location and shoot at large clusters of enemies. You can also take some hopu feathers to buy more time in the air.

Mercenary
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- The laser sword is a basic melee three-hit combo attack. The last hit of the combo inflicts Reveal, an effect that greatly increases the damage of any next Mercenary attack against a target with this effect. Despite the useful debuff, the combo is best done after collecting a few soldier syringes, since without them it takes too long.
- Whirlwind - Two quick slashes horizontally or vertically if you are in the air. The damage from the attack is quite mediocre, so it is better to use the skill of a small dash or finishing off a group of monsters.
- Blinding Attack - A dash forward that deals decent damage and stuns all targets in its path. If you hit an enemy with a dash, you will immediately be able to make a blinding attack again. The effect works up to 3 times. If you calculate the trajectory correctly, you can stay in the air long enough for other skills to roll back.
- Eviscerate - a dash forward for a long distance. If you meet an enemy on the way, then you will carry out a series of multiple blows on him, during which you will be invulnerable. The ability is great for applying negative effects, dodging, and attacking at the same time.
Unlocked abilities:
- Rising Thunder - A powerful vertical strike that launches the target into the air. A good alternative to the whirlwind, but if you want to stay in the air as long as possible, it's best not to change it. To unlock Rising Thunder, you need to spend 30 seconds in the air. To do this, stock up on hopu feathers and learn how to keep in the air with a blind attack and gutting.
- Cutting Wind - the ability allows you to launch a wide projectile that deals huge damage to three enemies at once. To get it, you must pass the Prismatic Trial without taking any damage.

REX
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- DIRECTIVE: Injection - Fires three syringes, the last of which restores health for 60% of the damage dealt.
- Seed Volley - Fires a mine that deals 450% damage at a cost of 15% of your own health.
- DIRECTIVE: Charge - Fires a wide wave that weakens and repels enemies. In addition, if you are in the air at the time of the acceleration, you will be thrown back. Use this skill to dodge and push enemies into the abyss.
- Root Growth is a special ability that places a booby trap on the ground that pulls enemies towards it. Planting a mine costs 25% health, but each mine attack restores your health.
Unlocked abilities:
- Directive: Drill - Replaces a mine explosion with a hail of seeds that restores your health. For maximum effect, use Overclock to push as many enemies as you can into the seed hail. To get the ability, you need to charge the portal, having less than 50% health from the beginning to the end of the charge. In order to reduce your health, use a volley of seeds, and the main attack to restore it.
- Bramble Barrage - Fires a sonic wave that deals damage and restores your health for each enemy it hits. Use burns 20% of your health. To open the ability, it is necessary to drop a clay dune walker into a pit in an abandoned aqueduct. Overclocking will help you with this task, however, note that the boss cannot be moved when he pulls you towards him. Wait for the end of his attack, bring him closer to the edge, and only then use acceleration.

loader
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Fists are the character's main melee attack.
- Grab - A gauntlet shot that pulls you towards the target. You can be attracted to opponents, surfaces, and various objects, which allows you not only to quickly break into fights but also to quickly move around the location.
- Charged Fist is a utility skill that allows you to deal massive damage with a maximum charged strike.
- Column M551 - the ability allows you to throw a small floating sphere that deals damage to the enemy around him. It can also be used as a grabber.
Unlocked abilities:
- Spiked Fist - the skill changes the mechanics of the grappler. Now you will only be attracted to large enemies, and smaller ones will be pulled towards you. In addition, your gauntlet now deals damage and stuns the enemy. By using this variation, you will lose some mobility in the first levels, as you won't be able to be attracted to most flying enemies. The ability is unlocked after passing through a divine portal in 25 minutes or less. The Divine Portal appears starting from the seventh level after charging a regular portal. To get to him at the appointed time, you will have to squeeze the maximum out of the grabber and the charged fist, sometimes ignoring some items.
- The Thunder Fist is a faster version of the Charged Fist, dealing more splash damage but less dash. To unlock, you need to strike with a charged fist at a speed of 480 km / h or higher. To accelerate to such a speed, you will first have to swing on the grabber and then fly into the enemy on a fully charged blow. To make the task easier, you can use items that increase attack speed.

Acrid
How to open Acrid?
Capabilities:
- Grievous Wounds is Akrid's sweeping melee attack. Every third hit deals double damage and restores health.
- Neurotoxin - poison spit. Due to the fast reload, it can be used as a ranged attack or to weaken a group of enemies.
- Caustic Bounce - Leap forward, dealing damage upon landing. In addition, the skill also stuns and poisons opponents. Has two charges, which allows you to simultaneously deal damage to a large group of enemies and avoid retaliatory attacks.
- Epidemic is a bouncing projectile spit that can hit 20 targets at once. Also inflicts poison.
Unlocked abilities:
- Wither - Replaces the poison effects of your abilities with wither, dealing potentially more damage due to the stacking effect. To fulfill the conditions for obtaining, you need to finish off opponents with one health point left 50 times. This is quite simple to do, since the poison does not kill opponents, but causes gradual damage, up to 1 health unit. Poison large groups of enemies and finish them off with a jump.
- Ravenous Bite is a melee strike that triggers health regeneration and poisons enemies. It is worth choosing only if you are determined to fight only in close combat. To open the ability, you need to finish off the gatherer with Akrid. This enemy appears around the 10th stage, so prepare well.
- Furious Blink is similar to the normal Blink, dealing more damage and reloading faster due to targets hit. A significant disadvantage of this ability is the absence of poisoning, so it is better not to use it. To open, you need to apply Akrid poisoning 1000 times. To speed up the process, use items that reduce the cooldown of abilities.

Captain
How to open it?
Capabilities:
- Volcanic Shotgun - fires eight projectiles. The longer you hold down the attack button, the greater the particle grouping will be. That is, it is not necessary to hold down the fire button if the enemy is in front of you.
- Energy Shocker - Fires a stun projectile that bounces off walls. The skill's damage is tiny, so it can only be used to stun large targets.
- Orbital Probe - Summon a rocket that hits a small area. The skill has three charges, each of which has a rather long cooldown, but saving them is still not worth it, as this is the only alternative to the main attack.
- Orbital Resupply Beacon - Summons a beacon that stays on the level until the end of the level. You can only summon two beacons per location, so use them only when activating a portal or to survive in critical situations.
- Beacon: Healing is one of two beacon variations available from the start of the game. When used, creates a healing circle around the beacon, which is very helpful in the early stages of the game.
- Beacon: Discharge is the second beacon variation available initially. This beacon creates a field around itself that immobilizes enemies. The second most useful lighthouse. Use it instead of a healer if you're picking up items that increase health or defense.
Unlocked abilities:
- Lighthouse: Resupply - A beacon that reloads equipment. Has three charges. A very situational skill, but in most cases loses to the previous two. To get this skill, you need to change 10 locations in one attempt while playing as a captain. If you were able to defeat the final boss, then the passage of additional stages will not be difficult. To set off
- Lighthouse Hack - Unlocks all purchasable items around you. The radius of action is quite small, so many things will not be able to catch on. It loses against the background of other lighthouses also because by the middle of the game there will always be enough money to purchase all the items without the help of hacking. The only reason to use it is to complete timed achievements. To open it, you need to find a broken TS-280 Prototype and repair it. It is located on the third (snowy) location, and its repair costs about 1300 coins.
