Temtem: Which Starter Should I Choose?

Crystle, Smazee, and Houchic are the starter Temtem you have to choose between. So that you don't ponder too long, we'll give you a decision-making aid.

Temtem: Which Starter Should I Choose

In this starter guide to Temtem you will learn:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of the starters
  • What their stats look like
  • Which starter is the right choice

As with Pokémon, Temtem doesn't exactly make it easy for you to choose a starter. While Crystle and Smazee in particular impress with their cuteness, Houchic is probably the first choice for everyone who likes cool monsters. Her elements are completely new territory for anyone who is only used to plant, water and fire at the beginning.

The description of Professor Konstantinos also does not give much information about where the wheat separates from the chaff. So that you don't have to choose your first partner haphazardly, we have summarized the most important information about all three starters. Other open questions about the game may be clarified by our tips guide to Temtem.

The Crystal Starter: Crystle

Crystle is a balanced starter. His primary strengths are health and defense. Despite being rather passive stats, it deals significant damage to opponents. However, it acts rather slowly and rarely deals the first blow. Crystal Temtem is fairly rare to find in the early game, so Crystle can give you a competitive edge.

Due to its early game advantages and balanced stats, Crystle is often cited as the top pick to start with. Even at higher levels, his learnable attacks do a lot of damage to your opponents. Crystle is therefore the secret favorite among the starters.

What you need to know about Crystle:

  • Type: Crystal
  • Effective: Electro, Mental
  • Ineffective: Fire, Earth
  • Resistance: Mental, Poison, Electro
  • Weakness: Fire, Earth, Fighting
  • Development: Sherald (+30 levels)

The Battle Starter: Smazee

Smazee impresses with its speed and attack power. He is a fast melee fighter who tends to be the first to act in combat. Smazee still offers some advantages initially, but in the early game, he's easily replaceable with other melee Temtem. Smazee is a good first choice for anyone who prefers a partner to start with who is both fast and strong at the same time.

So far, however, Smazee has tended to be called the worst of the three options. His development in particular should not look particularly good in the later game. There are too many better alternatives from the combat element for that. If you still don't want to do without the fluffy companion, you can simply use the early access to put it through its paces. Nothing is set in stone yet.

What you need to know about Smazee:

  • Type: fight
  • Effective: Earth, Crystal
  • Ineffective: Mental, combat
  • Resistance: fight
  • Weakness: Mental, Digital
  • Development: Baboong (+29 levels)

The mental starter: Houchic

Special attacks and endurance are mental starter Houchic's passion. In the beginning, leveling through fights can be extremely difficult, since you will carry out the same sequence of attacks over and over again. Also, Houchic's first special moves always take an extra turn before you can use them.

Nevertheless, it is worth adding Houchic to your team, since you will encounter Temtem from the Mental Element rather seldom during the course of the game. In terms of Smazee, Houchic is definitely a better choice. Even in higher levels, it will keep you happy with strong special attacks and will certainly remain a long-term team member.

What you need to know about Houchic:

  • Type: mental
  • Effective: neutral, combat
  • Ineffective: Crystal
  • Resistance: neutral, fighting
  • Weakness: Electro, Digital, Crystal
  • Development: Tental (+29 levels)

Can the starter Temtem be caught later in the game?

Our best advice to you: Don't go crazy with the starter choice. In Temtem, it is entirely possible to catch both Crystle and Smazee and Houchic as the game progresses. You can find Crystle in the Mines of Quetzal on Tucma Island.

You can catch Smazee and Houchic on Arbury. You can find Smazee in Greenglen Forest and Houchic in Meadowdale. In addition, status values differ from Temtem to Temtem. So you can catch a much better specimen later in the game than what Professor Konstantinos offers you.

No matter which partner you choose at the beginning of the game, you will not find yourself in the embarrassment of constantly losing fights with any of them. The Temtem of element flying and water in the first dojo will be neither particularly strong nor particularly weak against your starter. Also, don't forget that shortly after your choice, you'll receive another pet: Tuwai.
