Evil West: All about co-op and crossplay - Game Guide

How does the co-op mode work?

In Evil West, you take on the role of gunslinger Jesse Reindeer, who, like his companions, belongs to a community of vampire hunters. Since you don't slip into the skin of his colleague Edgar Gravenor in co-op mode, but only control a copy of Jesse Reindeer, it quickly becomes clear that Evil West was basically designed as a single-player experience. But that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, because you can continue the adventure alone at any time and don't necessarily have to rely on a co-op partner.

To play co-op, simply open multiplayer from the main menu, then select a player from your friends list to invite them into the session. Unfortunately, the vampire hunt cannot be done in split screen. On top of that, co-op partners get a hit when it comes to progression: only the host earns story and character progression. However, in order not to leave guests with their pants down, they are given the host's weaponry and abilities.

You can help each other on your feet in multiplayer if one of the players bites the virtual grass - but to keep the gaming experience challenging, the difficulty of your opponents is increased in compensation. So you shouldn't expect that difficult passages in co-op mode can be mastered much more easily.

Is cross-play possible?

As the developers announced in a live stream, there will be no crossplay in Evil West. However, as lead producer Tomasz Gop points out, "there are platforms where it works". This could mean cross-generational crossplay.

This means that PS5 and PS4 players can invite each other into the game. Of course, the same applies to owners of an Xbox Series X|S who want to gamble with "Xbox One" players. However, PC players cannot join vampire hunts with console players, just as PS5 players cannot connect with Xbox SX players.
