In God of War Ragnarök, you can set the graphics mode yourself and decide whether you want to prefer resolution or performance. We played through the game and give you our recommendation for the best graphics mode. We also show you the exact differences between the modes.
Prefer resolution or performance? Our tip
When you start God of War Ragnarök you can make a lot of settings and choose between the graphics modes "Prefer performance" and "Prefer resolution". But what is the best choice here and what gives you the most beautiful, but also most fluid gaming experience?
After spending more than 40 hours in the nine realms of the world tree, we can only recommend you to choose the performance mode. In the many hectic combat situations and the effective boss fights, a constant frame rate of 60 FPS is worth a lot more than slightly better optics. In the most intense situations, picture quality can drop from 4K all the way down to 1440p in performance mode, but even then the graphical difference is barely noticeable.
Tip: If you have a monitor/TV that supports HDMI 2.1, HFR (High Frame Rate), and VRR (Variable Frame Rate), you can get the best performance. Thanks to HFR, the game runs in 1440p and lets you enjoy the action at 80-90 FPS. VRR also helps in synchronization between frame rate and the refresh rate of your monitor/television.
